Hello there!

I've been far away from asian dramas for awhile now. It seems that I cannot get into dramas anymore(and I re watched too many times the ones that I love). It's like some kind of "reader's block", thus I need a drama able to get me out of that.  Can you suggest me a new drama (2021-2022) that can be really addicting? I'd like  something with some angst (that makes sense).

*Korean --> I prefer both action and romance together; smart and mature characters; good acting;  not too       much comedy

*Chinese --> I prefer historical and wuxia dramas (with romance); smart and mature characters; good acting;    not too clingy; not too much comedy

*Japanese --> I prefer smart and mature characters; not too much comedy; good characters development

*Thai --> I prefer dramas without "screaming" characters; good characters development; good acting; not too  much comedy

P.s. I don't mind spoilers, they can help me to find the right drama, so don't hesitate to use it!

Thanks a lot!

  • All of Us Are Dead (Korean, 2022)
  • Squid Game (Korean, 2021)

Unfortunately I didn't like Squid Game, but I'll try with All of us are dead.

Thanks for your suggestions!

crash landing on you - kdrama <3. has action and romance, and amazing acting.

The Rebel Princess (Chinese, 2021)

Reset ! It's a chinese drama, not a historical one and at first you can be kind of scared to start it but I PROMISE you, it's not boring and not repetitive if that makes sense. It's on youtube

edit : oh shoot it doesn't have much romance tho as it's not the main plot

I've started, but not finished. Maybe I'm gonna give a second try. Thanks!

If it's a really good drama, it's fine also without romance. I'll check it out! Thanks!

When I'm trying to bounce back from a slump and re-watching old favourites isn't working, I find it's sometimes helpful to watch something short with low expectations (something you've been meaning to watch, either a movie, a special, or a very short drama, that looks like it will just be "okay" but not amazing). It takes all the pressure off, and you might even be pleasantly surprised. Since it's very short (I'd say 12 episodes max) it's easier to say "I'll try one more episode" and before you know it you're done. Obviously drop it if you hate it, but I've found those types of dramas tide me over well when I can't get into something "better" but with more of a time commitment and higher expectations.

Flower of Evil This is a 2020 drama but I still recommend it because it's so so good (it's also my most recently out kdrama). It's really good, a mix of thriller, action and romance. Oops I saw that you dropped it already, never mind then haha.  ^^'

18 Again there's not action in it, except a few (very well made) high school fights. It's about a middle aged man with kids, on the verge of divorce, but then he goes back to 18 y.o and gets to befriend his kids and understand his wife better. This is not a very original story, but very well made. It was recommended to me when I asked for advice to come out of my own slump hehe. I like the story because there are these themes: sexism and agism in the workplace, single motherhood, mid-life crisis (feeling left behind), bullying, geekdom, adult bullies...

Khaen Rak Salap Chata (2021): this is the best thai drama I've watched. There's a bit of mystery, action, fantasy and romance. The acting is pretty good, and there is 0 sreeching banshee. Usually thai dramas are really easy to figure out, what's gonna happen, when, etc... I must say this one had me guessing till the end.

Pleng Bin Bai Ngiw (2022) is currently airring, of what I've seen (16 episodes), it's a good drama. There are some very crazy women in there, but nobody is needlessly screaming. Actually my favorite scene is a tantrum that one of the evil women throws at her husband. This was heart wrenching, and even though she's completely crazy, you can't help but kinda feel for her, it humanizes her A LOT. Mind you, she throws a lot of tantrums, but it's very well made, not overacted and I'm still not tired of it haha.

all korean dramas aired in 2021

Thanks for the suggestions!  I really liked Happiness, My name and Taxi driver, they were the last dramas I watched before the "no dramas" period.

That's a really good advice! I say also for the ones that are going to be stuck like me. For months I've tried just the best recommended dramas and I wasn't able to go on, even if it was a good drama. These days, instead, I've tried a drama with really low expectations and I've skipped a lot of scenes; I didn't like  it as I though, but it kinda got me into asian dramas again!

Thanks for your suggestions!

I'll check Khaen Rak Salap Chata and Pleng Bin Bai Ngiw .

I've not liked a thai drama since Kleun Cheewit and Hua Jai Sila, so I hope I will be able to get into it again!

Taxi Driver is a good drama, i enjoyed watching it.
