I'm looking for drama suggestions for when the leads part ways due to a break-up at the very end of the show. Honestly it's because I find shows like these to be a waste of time especially if romance is one of the main genres of the story. Please suggest shows that fit the bill, so I can place them firmly in my Not Interested list to not waste my time. Thanks in advance.

I mainly watched KDramas and CDramas, and I don't mind sad endings where one of the two dies. But if it's a break-up rather than a death separation, I'd prefer to stay away.

Obvious spoilers below!

Romance dramas where the leads do not end up together, and if one of the leads dies it's not a situation where the leads were both happily in love and together right before that death:

* In these dramas, at least one of the leads hated, felt strong resentment towards or was very angry with the other lead either at the time where the other lead dies or at the very end of the drama.

** These dramas end on a cliff hanger and leave open the possibility that the leads might get together in the future.

** Although it seems like the ML sacrifices his life for the FL in this drama, there is actually a secret hint that the ML is living in another city at the end of the drama, but the FL does not pick up on the clue and becomes a bit of villain / seems to go a little crazy and there really isn't any hint to suggest that the leads might actually get back together, which is why I included this drama in the list above.

Funny enough, Twenty-Five Twenty-One was the reason that I made the post in the first place haha. Bloody Romance was actually a show that I might've watched so I'm grateful to know about the ending of that one specifically!

And even though Scarlet Heart: Ryeo fit the key that you created it's actually one of my all-time favorites. However dramas like Legend of Lu Zhen's awful ending, frustrated me to no bounds. Once again thanks for your response!

Are you weeding out unhappy endings? ?

Goodbye, my Princess - super dramatic ending

Dear Diary -still a romp though

Todome No Kiss - bonkers all around

Is what came up in my list and wasn't mentioned before.

Now shows where they should have just broken up, the list is longer. ?

I almost put Hwarang,  because everyone agrees the male lead should not have been the male lead.

Oh my goodness the toxicity of the main couple's relationship in this one was through the roof. I swear this drama was just a constant stab after stab through the chest. The acting? Superb. But I'd never want to experience that (or anything remotely close to it) again!

The other two however are news to me!! Considering that both were dramas that I legitimately would have watched eventually. TNK although a surprise, is not that shocking because the premise as a whole sounds wacky, haha. But Dear Diary... makes me second guess my earlier idea of cutting these shows out completely, the ML (and his abs) might be worth a less than ideal finale. xD

I honestly recommend it, because I have never seen anything like it. Intercultural, time travel romance and whacky adventures based on a 13 year olds fanfiction. The ending isn't too sad either.

You know what? I'll take your word for it and just added Dear Diary to my ptw list. I'm a sucker for time travel romances anyways!

  • Tune in for Love
  • Hotel del Luna

Thanks for your response. For a completely separate reason I recently (like a week ago) removed Tune in for Love from my PTW list, so you've just reaffirmed my initial decision.

And as for Hotel Del Luna, from all of the MV's I've seen of that drama I had zero expectation for anything other than a sad/bad ending. *shrugs*
