Hello! i am looking for recommendations for Adult drama romance. I am referring to dramas where

1) male and female lead don’t look too young. Late twenties to forties is good.

2) Male lead doesn’t look too young or too skinny. He looks manly and nice. I really like the way the ML of Red Balloon looks; Lee Sang Woo. Tall, broad, handsome and everything nice.  I don’t like the ML of Whyher. He may be in his late twenties but he looks too  young. Compared to Song Kang who is also late twenties but doesn’t have that young look. ML and FL’s ages are not the issue. They should not just look too young that I would feel like I am watching high school or college genre.

3) A MUST: Dramas that have affection between the couple. Kisses, hugs, handholding, touching. It’s obvious they are in love and physically intimate. We are all adults and I am tired of seeing couples dating and barely kiss or don’t know how to kiss or not being intimate to an extent. Even if there’s no sex but let it be obvious they get to first base at least.

4) not fluffy. I don’t mind rom coms but not fluff .

5) Strong or smart female lead. I don’t want a weak simpering female lead with baby voices. Han Hyo Joo always plays the perfect FL

I love romance genre. Could be thriller romance, horror romance but romance should be 50% or more. I prefer Korean or Taiwanese or Chinese. Chinese dramas tend to have young looking, really slim ML/FL so I try to be careful with those. Can be modern or historical

Examples:

- Kiss sixth sense

-If I can love you so

- A dream of splendour

-Shine or go crazy

- I need romance

-Healer/ her private life/WWWSK

- Lost Romance

please give me recommendations

Hi Guys,

Can I second Gatcha's recommendation request, but with a few differences?

I'm also looking for more mature romances where the leads share more that a prolong touching of lips in the last episode of the series. It doesn't mean that I absolutely want "sex scenes", but I consider that physical intimacy is a normal part of a relationship and I'm tired of dramas where the leads practically freak out when their hands touch.

However, I really don't care about the age of the characters or the look of the male lead (I actually kind of like the androgynous look :P ). I just don't want to feel like I'm looking at two 12 year olds getting it on. I also don't mind a bit of fluff. Fluff pieces are nice when you're feeling a bit down or too tired to make use of your brain.

Finally, smart, strong female leads are more than welcome. I hope to avoid dramas where the FL is so... let's say "naïve", that's it's a wonder she made it pass the age of 10. I'm kind of sick of the trope where the ML is the best in everything and the FL is the worst at everything, including thinking and using common sense.

Thank you!

  • Love Now (Taiwan) - mature romance, with  same aged characters/actors though George Hu does have such boyish looks but dont be fooled cause there is a Very adult and hot skinship start. though you would have to wait for a very long time for the next hot scene as the character start of at a bumpy progression. (FYI: leads are now engaged!)
  • Divorce Lawyers (China) - mature couple, though ML is obviously older, yet female is not simpering woman. she is such a ball buster!!!
  • Before We got Married (Taiwan) - mature romance though this one is centered around cheating, but still nice to watch the characters wade through each their issues. The woman did bordeline bit annoying for me, but I guess they do have their issues...
  • Rebel Princess (China) - historical drama with one of the best ML's ever. he is so manly and just the right amount of swoonworthy warrior romantic.
  • Dating in The Kitchen (China) - Manyly ML with a young FL. but they do compliment each other. light fluffy romance that has a a bit of dip into melo. but all is good. There are some hot kisses in this one.
  • Something about 1% (S.korea) - pretty cliche chaebol story but there were just some steamy skinship in this drama that I love
  • Pride (Japan) - adult romance plus manly Kimutaku though still a bit of heartthrob vibes, but FL does give very naive vibes
  • Find Me in Your Memory (S.Korea) - mature and manly ML, though FL does give off immature and naive vibes that sometimes feel off.
  • My Love Eundong (S.Korea) - melodrama genre
  • Interest of Love (S.Korea) - ongoing drama, haven't seen much but I did see some clips of kisses and handholding
  • maybe
    • Another Miss Oh (S.korea) - very immature FL
    • First half of My Life (China) - not much skinship but narrative/character driven story
    • Something in the Rain (S.Korea) - I guess ML does not that mature look
    • Marry Me or Not (Taiwan)
  • or try dramas with actors like: Jin Dong, Chris Wu, Wang Kai, KimuTaku, Kim Raewon, Go Soo, Yoo Jitae, Joo JinMoo

Another example of a manly male lead is Lee Tae Gon from Love Marriage and Divorce. The voice,  looks, mannerisms. I have looked for his other dramas but can’t find any on Viki, Netflix or Disney+

I am looking forward to Interest of love. I like the MLs and the FL is good with intimate scenes.

Thanks for the recommendations. I really like the ML of rebel princess. Handsome and manly  but I couldn’t get past the princess acting 15 when she clearly looked years older. Maybe I need to try again but skip to when she gets to the age when she acts closer to her real age.

Also liked Before we get married. Hated dating in the kitchen. Too much fluff. manly male lead who started with silliness later in the drama. I Will try the other recommendations

It's Okay, That's Love - cant remember their ages, but they're both established in their careers. It's more on the mature side of romance and involves some nice skinship if I remember correctly. ML is not a buff/macho guy (sorry)

Nagi no Oitoma - the FL is a little naive, but the first episode is literally her realizing her boyfriend is shitty and she decides to live her own life. Her exploration of romance is more mature though it's not really a romance in the standard sense. It's more about her journey with herself. Neither of the guys are macho though (sorry again)

Raise de wa Chanto Shimasu - This story revolves around 5 main characters, one of which is very much a buff man, maybe more buff than you're looking for actually lol. None of their romances are what you'd consider standard for dramas and very much are mature in the bed way. Ahem.

Coffee Prince - A classic for a reason. The handsome Gong Yoo probably has the build you're looking for. He's a young playboy here, so he might not match the age though. I would say the romance explores mature theme though. Really stellar drama.

(Sorry Gatcha, I know you've already watched two of these)

Thanks! I like coffee prince a lot. ML was young then but he still had that manly look. Gong Yoo also has the look that I like.

I also like It’s Okay that’s love. Love the couple

ML does not have to be buff or very tall. ML shouldn’t look too young or cute/pretty.  MLs i like who are not tall or very buff looking are Ji Jin Hee from I have a lover, Song seun hee from dinner mate. I also really loved the 2 ML in empress ki. Handsome and manly. I also liked Ryu soo young in Love in Sadness. Manly.  Also So Ji Sub  and Eric Mun

I liked all these MLs even in dramas when they looked way younger.

Unfortunately i don’t like Japanese or thai dramas. I tried to get into them but just couldn’t. Maybe I just haven’t found the right one.

Have you tried The lover?

It's about four different couples of different age groups and backgrounds.
I actually had to search for "k-drama with glow in the dark condom" because I could not remember the name of this drama.

The 2 first reviews on this drama's page explain really well what it's all about.

Firstly, I'm in this mood these days, so I'm writing to follow the forum.

And secondly, what comes to my mind right now:

Jealousy Incarnate

Lie To Me

Marriage, Not Dating

A Business Proposal

Last Cinderella (Japan)

  • World of the married
  • Remarriage and Desires

Yumi’s cells

Oath of love ( this had awesome skinship)

Hidden love

Parallel World (definitely one of my favourite release this year!)

The Smile Has Left Your Eyes hasn't been mentioned and there is a really good scene in there that isn't exaaactly racy, but toes the line of racy.  I don't know if I'd call Seo In Guk exactly manly looking, but he sure doesn't look like a kid, so maybe it would be interesting to you?  idk.

Devilish Joy depicts a mature relationship, and the kiss scenes are so good, but you don't get a lot of them.  It's a very plot-heavy drama that uses the chemistry they establish in episode 1 to string you along through the story and tests your patience.  But it's still good, I rated it high.  ML is so manly and gorgeous omg.

Lesson In Love was really good at getting close to being racy without actually being super racy, the only problem with that one is that the ML is supposed to be a high school senior.

Nevertheless was somewhat racy, a teensy bit racy, lots of intimate scenes, but the ML and FL are supposed to be in their early 20's and so it's less adult.  Heck, it's even less adult-seeming than Lesson In Love, about a HS student.
