ML breaks his principles or the law to help/protect the FL

I'm picturing a ML who's upstanding lawful and a really good person who wants everything in the world to be fair, but after falling for the FL he slowly breaks down and realizes the only way to protect or help the FL is to break down everything he has learned or values.
