It's easy to find good dramas because of the buzz when they are on-going but it's harder for movies because they don't always release on streaming so it's hard to catch the good ones.

Is there a way to find the top asian movies from the past year or so? The ratings on MDL are too subjective and some underrated ones get missed.

Can you recommend some movies that you really enjoyed preferably released in the last couple of years? I don't have a language preference as long as subs are available.

Only genres I am not currently inclined towards are War/Politics, Horror and maybe if it's too depressing.

If you like action movies

Ones on my radar to watch once available or premier

On varying depressing scales  but in case you ever in the mood to see them anyway

Better Days came out in 2019. Romance / Coming of Age. It has some very dark themes (debt/poverty, bullying, death), but it has a happy ending and it's very well done. I probably would've dropped it fairly early on if I hadn't seen spoilers about the nature of the leads' relationship and that it had a fairly happy ending.

Fullmetal Alchemist 2: Revenge Scar
Fullmetal Alchemist 3: Final Transmutation

Do we have to watch the anime to understand these? I'll check out the other titles. Thanks.

The Post-Truth World (if you are into suspense)

I love suspense and action. Thank you for such a detailed list! I will certainly pick one for tonight! :D

haha, I'm going to avoid reading the parts in spoilers for now. I don't mind stories about debt/poverty/bullying/death so no issues there. I also don't mind depressing actually. Just depends on my mood.

Parasite

Kill Bok soon
Unlocked

Emergency Declaration
The witch part 1 and part 2

I've seen Parasite and Kill Bok Soon. Unlocked is in my PTW list. How did you find it btw?

The Witch was not an English language film? Or is this a different film? Also it sounds like horror. XD

Emergency Declaration sounds similar to a movie I have seen but that was a bit more light. Anyway, sounds like a good movie.

Thanks everyone. I'm set for days! :D

Just wanted to update and review the movies I did see so far!

Unlocked - nice thriller and didn't feel as uneasy as I expected I would. Liked how the phone screen was the highlight of the movie. End was certainly interesting!

The Post-Truth World - I enjoyed it quite a bit! The poster doesn't do the movie justice. And once again, the ending was the best part. Puts the title into perspective and really makes one think.

All These Years

Thanks! This looks interesting!

Faces of Anne

A unique movie. I just found the gore/violence a bit uncomfortable so couldn't enjoy it fully. As a concept, it was good.

The witch part 1 and part 2

Watched both! Part 1 was definitely much better developed than part 2. The action is slightly better in Part 2 but I wish there was more of it.

Thanks for the recommendation!
