I don't know if this has been discussed before but I've noticed lots and lots of tags piling up on show listings lately. The one that finally drove me to comment is seeing "Misunderstanding" as a tag. Pray tell, what drama doesn't have some sort of misunderstanding at some point? Might as well also have tags like "conflict", "characters", "plot". It's ridiculous. I understand genre tags, trigger warnings, and major story elements (emphasis on the MAJOR), but tagging every possible element that exists in a drama makes the tags generally useless.

I agree with you that there should be a better editing/moderator on the tags. It really makes the tags harder or even useless to use at some point.

When you look for a family drama and anything that has a family in it is tagged... I'll just look for the list outside of MDL... hence the useless tags...

I agree, things are getting ridiculous and there is nothing we can do until the admins improve the tag system.

Issues:

  1. Inability to delete spam, offensive, or duplicate tags from the system. Only admins can and they are busy so they don't do it often.
  2. Inability to remove tags/edit them in new drama/film/show submissions.
  3. The tag titles in the approval panel show up as the original name, however, some of the tags have a different title because of votes.

Possible improvements:

  1. New tags have to be requested on a separate page (not easily on the tag page, as it is now). Then the staff approve, edit (then approve), or reject it.
  2. Add a synonym/also known as box. We can use it for "World War 2". We can have "World War 2" as the main title and "World War II" in the synonym/also known as box. We can use it for the plural and singular tags. Instead of having two of each tag.
  3. Have only 1 main title and description for each language, instead of having many and people vote for it. Also, staff should approve or reject it, instead of having votes by random users/spammers that sometimes ruin the tags. We need to be able to edit them easily and fix mistakes instead of constantly having to constantly ask other people to vote so that we can fix the title or description of a tag.

great idea. maybe we can add sections to it too, like general, spoilers and trigger warning so that we can check what we want from each one without spoiling ourselves.
also, if the trigger warning can have the episode added next to it in a spoiler would be great (some people just need to be mentally prepared or want to watch the drama and skip that section).

It would be useful to have a page where we can find a list of the already available tags on MDL. This way, users could check if something similar already exists. If this list is automatically updated, then we can also easily warn you about spam, offensive, or duplicate tags.
