Character Analysis of Chu Youwen aka Prince Bo (Bo Wang in Chinese) aka Wolf Boy (Lang Zai in Chinese)
There are many different views of the character of Chu Youwen. Some viewers hate him. Some love him. I fall in the latter camp. A viewer has requested a discussion of the character. So here we go.
For this discussion, all views are accepted and will not be discriminated against, so please don't fight, just forward your views courteously. Everyone should respect each other's view.
We will also discuss how Wang Dalu aka Darren Wang plays the character. Is he spot on or lacking in some areas? For me, I initially thought he lacks in emoting his feelings, probably due to poor acting. When I re-watched, I caught those emotions, often fleeting. I change my mind about his acting. I feel he has given an excellent performance here.
Chu Youwen is a very complex character. For me, he's a very compassionate person despite how he has been brought up, first by the wolves in the wild, then by a cruel tyrant who has made him into a war machine. When he loves, he loves deep and very devoted. He's loyal to the Emperor because the latter has saved him. He loves his adoptive brothers and his subordinates and will not hesitate to give up his own life for them.
I would like to pass the baton to other viewers to discuss his relationship with Ma Zhaixing.
Have fun. Remember, don't fight!
