The main leads were so in love , so why did they get divorced . The issue is not getting divorced and divorce can happen for small reasons too . But, making Hyon woo as an ideal husband he wanting Hae in to die, get her assets was too much , even though he accepts he is trash to his mother for what he did and try to love her. Being such an intelligent guy with many skills, before marriage he should have known how a poor guy will be treated by rich inlaws. Even if they are the worst (here in the drama they were not good , but not evil) , he should understand Hae In. They both loved so were is the proper communication between them. Hae In is treated badly by her own mother and blames her for her brothers dead. She is working hard so that she is accepted by her family . In a way , all she cared is about Hyon woo and he should have been with her thorugh all hardships . Before divorce, he should have stood upto his inlaws , discussed with hae in about everything and his plans of divorce and so many things . If they didn't love each other so much before marriage , the writing would have made sense , something like haters to lovers. But, here were madly in love with each other , due to some hardships he wants his wife to die, then he tries to cure her and risk his own life for her . It came as a cycle . And the explanations when they take the walk was actually good , how they will things diffferentl this time. But, 16 episodes the viewers not understanding the leads seems not right . lIke hyun woo , who is loved by everyone , be it family , friends , villagers, colleagues , he is always loved . Hae in being not loved by anyone else, and the only one she loved she couldnt express her sorrows , so it is full Hyunwoos fault . He should have taken responsibilty and made her maybe to move in to his apartment , visit his parents , go on trips , and we already know Hae in wouldnt say No. What do you guys think?
And making Hyon woo the perfect husband is it because he is popular, good at acting (completely agree) , risks his life for her (usual scenes in kdrama, particularly for this writer) , understanding his mistakes and correcting them , having good character development . Not saying these iself is not enough to make him a good person . But ,does it make him a perfect husband ?
It’s not deep. This drama was not written to be an exemplary quality of writing, characterisation, world building and logic backed by good technical research.
It was written for ratings. Provocatively, with plot twists and last minute tension and cliffhangers, cliches, shiny visuals, cameos and just a lot of makjang melodrama that engages the audience providing escapism in a fantasy romance.
They wanted to add a bit of ‘dark’ humour and that’s where the scenes of Hyun Woo’s Son-In-LawTM struggles and exhilaration at a terminally ill wife come from. Just a typical married couple that’s forgotten their past romance and is fighting like cats and dogs and sometimes wish each other ill even if they don’t truly mean it.
I don’t mind the part of the characterisation for Hyun Woo though it makes him much less the drama romance ideal hero. But I dislike the drama falling off in the second half and not properly exploring the fallout of the main couple’s relationship and their resentments.
I truly enjoyed watching the drama for what it was, because despite the sloppy writing, it’s got all the ingredients of a classic romance+everything genre Kdrama and the lovely OST, attractive bright visuals and star studded cast kept the show running at peak ratings.

I think your whole point of view is biased towards Hae In without taking Hyun Woo's perspective into account. I don't want to say that only Hae In was at fault and Hyun Woo didn't contribute to their deteriorated relationship because both were equally at fault. In some cases, Hae In was to blame, and in others, Hyun Woo was. Hyun Woo being happy about getting rid of his problems regarding his in-laws after Hae In dies in three months is equally as problematic as Hae In not giving proper consideration to Hyun Woo's feelings when the talk of the baby through artificial insemination was brought up by the Hong parents in episode one. Hae In was so nonchalant about it, knowing how deeply their past miscarriage affected their relationship. I will answer your question in stages.
1. So, for your first question about Hyun Woo being happy upon hearing news of Hae In's death, it's very insensitive of her to talk to Hyun Woo about the baby issue in such a cold, aloof, and rude manner, just as it was insensitive of Hyun Woo to be happy that Hae In will die in three months and he will be free from his problems and struggles.
2. For your second question about why he married her if he had known about her personality or her being rich, it's because before marrying her, even during their long-term dating, he didn't know that she was rich. Sometimes Hae In was interrupted by him, or Hae In didn't directly tell him that she is rich, even after Hyun Woo proposed. By that time, I believe his feelings were so strong for her that he couldn't break off his marriage with her, especially after she came to his hometown in Yongdori in a helicopter to coax him into working in the company again after he resigned.
3. For your third question about why he didn't try harder to communicate when he had known that Hae In didn't get much love from her family, especially her mother, while he got much love, it's because the differences and problems between Hae In and her mother due to her brother's death shouldn't be the reason for Hae In to treat Hyun Woo so rudely in front of others and even in private. Yes, she grew up in a family where she wasn't much loved because of a misunderstanding, and she then learned that way of learning too and treated Hyun Woo the same way after the miscarriage. But she should also know that Hyun Woo was raised in a much-loved family and is very sensitive regarding not getting love in a family. So, shouldn't she know how Hyun Woo would feel after he was humiliated by her family members even in front of her? She wasn't much loved, so she is used to the coldness and rudeness from her family, much Hyun Woo probably didn't have that experience to withstand the humiliation.
4. For your fourth question on why he didn't stand up for himself in front of his in-laws, how can he stand up in front of his in-laws when they are so powerful that the whole economy of the country revolves around them? Even ignoring that fact, if his wife wasn't even standing up for him in front of his in-laws (I'm not talking about the time she stood up for him in front of Soo Cheol because Hyun Woo didn't see that), then how would he get the courage to talk back to the Hong parents? They were even treating the outsider Yoon Eun Seong better than their son-in-law, which can be seen from episode two to eight. Actually, that's the problem with society too because the problems of men aren't highlighted enough like the problems of women are. Even this drama showed the problems of Hyun Woo in a comedic light while the problems of Hae In were always shown with emotional music and a sad tone, which honestly changed the perspective of the viewers.
5. For your fifth question, why didn't Hyun Woo ask Hae In to move to his apartment or his parents' house? It's because we are shown that Hyun Woo isn't an assertive person; rather, Hae In is the aggressive or assertive one in the relationship. Basically, she wears the pants in the relationship.
Even after all this, I will still say that both were equally at fault for their deteriorated marriage. However, what makes Hyun Woo a better husband is that he was shown to have growth throughout the drama, whereas Hae In's growth wasn't portrayed as much. Instead, we got scenes of her illness, her troubles with her mother and family, and dealing with a psychotic secondary male lead, which made us sympathize with her rather than empathize, which viewers probably did with Hyun Woo.
