English subtitles comparison and lost in translation

Finished my re-watch last night. Here are three more translations in the last few episodes I couldn't quite get.

Is that a grammar typo? Maybe it's "both of us are so embarrassing"?

WeTV is also not of much help.
"We are a real mess." 

If this statement is correct, why are they a mess?

He is just making a bad joke about how he is spitting blood with every word, making him a cuckoo or one of her kind.

What he quotes here is a Chinese idiom 进退失据 which should just be literal - "No room to advance or retreat" ; i.e., a hopeless situation.
