Hi,

I hope some of you are able to point me in the right direction: I'm really interested in the philosophical concept of the show. I think some of Xing Yun's comments/observations about life and natural law are especially interesting. Is this taoist?

Although I watch quite a bit of xianxia drama, I'd really love to get a better understanding of the philosophy underlying it.

If you can point me to books/links etc. I'd be really happy. Thanks

Honestly, its all creative, world-building from the authors/writers, etc. Xianxia is heavily influenced by wuxia genre, and Daoism and Buddhism, so maybe you'd like to look into that?

A lot of immortals/demons/mythical creatures are based on Chinese Mythology. For example, if you look up the popular ones from dramas (nine-tailed fox, white snake, 9 headed demon, etc), you can usually find a wiki page on it for the mythology.

Thanks so much. Is there something you'd recommend for Daoism?

I think all Daoist philosophers start with Lao Tzu's Tao Te Ching. Its a book, and very popular.

I remember reading it back when amazon Kindle had it for free. It's not a bad read, and very thought provoking. I'm sure online you can find the ebook for free.
