Seems like the script is going a totally different direction. It is not exactly a novel but more like a short story: https://www.midnightscrolls.com/2024/08/prequel-to-kunshan-jade-list-of-chapters.html

Thanks baghetti ; I should have checked this out first since I was also checking for the text, out of curiosity.

I tried machine translation for the original versions, but it is of course very frustrating to have to change pronouns in one's mind because "she" becomes "he"  and her name is automatically translated as "Dragon Boat festival", lol.  Your version is much cleaner !

I read first chapter but not sure if I'll go on, before the drama airs, as I was simultaneously busy compiling stuff for the "companion piece" which I started on a whim in another "discussion" thread....

Only 5 hours till airing now, and I need a nap  :)

Let's see when the first 4 episodes land how different or true to story it will turn out. I actually don't mind it when drama screenwriters decide to adapt differently, if they can keep up the suspense and avoid making it boring - after all, the premise of such romances is rather run-of-the-mill : a drama version has to find ways of making it more attractive with visual and other thrills ! If it becomes an "alternate" version or just uses the starting spark to make something new, that's totally acceptable to me, I also appreciate re-tellings when stories only have remote similarities and even different ends: it's all from the "Sea of stories" (getting remote memories from the 1990 children's book of that title by Salman Rushdie, lol - but I don't expect  similarities between the romance and that satirical magical realist novella which unfortunately suffered from the attacks on the author because of his previous Satanic Verses' novel title with Prophet protagonist).

The drama  OST seems to be very promising although I've only found one song released yet (the Jane Zhang one) ; they got favorite idol singers with good voices in : Liu Yuning, Curly Gao, Silence Wang...

Only 10 chapters?

There are more, but these were the ones that got reviewed and translated. Read more about it in my Companion piecefirst section on "General Information".

That’s so sad because we don’t get to read it all. But thanks for sharing I guess I’ll just watch the drama:

As I explained, you CAN try to read in automatic translation from original platform which I linked, but my computer had a warning about the site that is "unsafe",  so I tried another way, but was not hooked enough to go on after "sampling the translated text", in view of perhaps joining comments here.

Anyway,  since the scriptwriters decided to use the original text as springboard for a more "remote" adaptation/creation, I prefer to watch the drama without too many temptations to compare. No regrets from me. Overall, the pace is ok, and I am not bored. Keeping track of who was who was not too difficult, but there are many characters, so perhaps the companion piece will help, as I sort out the roles for myself and for those who would like to check.

Yeah thanks for trying!

I checked your companion piece. The Chinese version that you linked also only seems to have 10 chapters.
I know you also linked something to an Android APK, so I have no idea what that is. Apparently that one has 23 chapters?

I don't mind spoilers, so:
What is the biggest difference between the novel and the series? #verycurious :D

Thanks for your interest.  As I wrote: I did not try to read further on a website which my computer warned had safety issues. So I can't give you a more detailed explanation than what you found.  If I got wind of someone who did a comparison of the 'seed' story in the book, and the drama rewriting by the scriptwriters, I would add links to their work in the companion piece compilation there, of course.

Ah, thanks! I guess we'll just have to wait and see if one pops-up :)
