I've been checking reactions from this season, and a lot of people want another one. Comments from Koreans under Netflix KR are full of wishes for another season. But realistically what route should the writers take to continue the existing story? In Train to Busan, they moved away from the zombies and focused more on the people, but there's no way that would be good for Zombieverse.
To think of a possible storyline continuation, let's think about what happened at the end of season 2.
- Hong Chul is hinted to be alive.
- Important characters like Dindin, Sungjae, and Se Ho are supposedly dead.
- Infected humans like Tuski and Patricia have a chance of surviving if a cure has been created.
Now, what should the staff do for the next season?
- To start things off, they need to bring Dindin, Sungjae, and Se Ho back alive. They're good additions to the cast, and the show would benefit greatly with them still on the show.
- Dex and Lee Si Young need to be given the spotlight, firmly giving them the reigns as the main characters of the show.
- After 2 seasons, it's time to introduce a hint of romance to give the show a bit more spice and excitement. Personally, I think Dex & Taeyeon would be interesting. Of course this should be something that shouldn't be too focused on; a few scenes here and there would have fans swooning.
- Get rid of the game show vibe season 2 totally leaned on. I want season 3 to be more realistic, natural and more tension filled.
- Balance out the comedy from the survival aspect of the show. Season 2 was overwhelmingly filled with comedy, and too much of anything is bad.
- Create a solid storyline from point to point before thinking of the actual scenes.
- The storyline should be 100% scripted. And what I mean by this is, the cast should follow a script void of actions and consequences. Results, who lives and dies, how things get from here to there are already pre-determined. It's then up to the cast themselves to interpret these scripts and how they plan to follow up. I want the show to operate like a casual drama; specific things should happen but the cast are still given freedom and creativity to act out their roles. Comedic scenes are still candid.
- The cast themselves should be involved in creating parts of the scripts. I'll use this season's Dex swimming scene as an example, the writers could create a scenario where Dex would look cool by performing a specific action, but maybe Dex could think of an even cooler scene cause he knows his capabilities better.
How I would imagine the story would go:
The survivors from last season would arrive to the lab only to discover that it has been overrun by zombies. Knowing the dangers, the cast would still go into the lab and try to learn as much as they can from the virus. Feeling hopeless, they come to a conclusion that a possible way to save humanity is by first discovering the origin of the virus. A time-skip around here would be nice.
After a year of enduring this horrific outbreak, the then assumed to be dead members (Dindin, Sungjae, Se Ho, Tsuki and Patricia) are reintroduced as humans once again after receiving blood from defeating semi-zombies they faced within that year; new members are also introduced (Key, Hong Jin Kyung, and Jeong Jun Ha). Things have now changed within the group, most of the members are now more used to dealing with zombies, and some of them have even started relationships beyond just friends (Dex and Taeyeon).
Despite trying their best, the team lacks the brains to find the origin of the virus. That's when they find clues on who could possibly help them; an ex-scientist of the South Korean Government convicted of an unknown crime. The problem is that this scientist is being kept in a prison full of zombies. Knowing this, the team sets out to rescue the said scientist.
After rescuing him, after much research, they discover that the virus' secrets would be found at where everything all started. They decide to go there but soon discover that this whole town is ruled by no other than Hong Chul. And it's not the same Hong Chul that they knew from a year ago, he now has semi-zombie commanders with him with an army of powerful zombies.
That's all I got after running my brain. It would be really nice if they fixed the issues season 2 had. The staff should focus on these things: awesome action scenes that would amaze the viewers, nail biting scenes that would keep the viewers on the edge of their seats, comedic scenes that make the viewers lol, and maybe a few heart-fluttering scenes between the members. The storyline needs to be great and interesting all whilst being natural and realistic.
The final cast that I imagine could be great:
- Dex: leader, main character
- Lee Si Young: leader, main character
- Dindin: experienced survivor maybe plotting betrayal
- Tsuki: little sister
- Patricia: little sister
- Hong Chul: funny semi-antagonist
- Se Ho: comedy veteran
- Sungjae: clumsy, funny, but also reliable
- Taeyeon: damsel in distress
- Key: high maintenance character
- Hong Jin Kyung: comedy veteran, Park Na Rae replacement
- Jeong Jun Ha: comedy veteran, always arguing and maybe plotting betrayal
- Code Kunst: unexpectedly reliable
(imo, Eunbi doesn't fit the cast well)
