Directors I Like
This is a list of all the stories they've directed that I've seen, but not necessarily that I like.
-
Kaneko Fuminori
Japanese
- Ikebukuro West Gate Park
- Kimi wa Petto
- Tiger & Dragon
- Ooku: the Inner Chamber
- Ooku: Eternity
- Ooku
- Quartet
- Nigeru wa Haji da ga Yaku ni Tatsu
- Koi wa Tsuzuku yo Doko Made mo
- Hyakuman Kai Ieba Yokatta
- Konin Todoke ni Han wo Oshita dake desu ga
- Extremely Inappropriate
im so curious about him T__T i love how he often chooses to tell unique stories that challenge the way we think. They tend to dip until something off-the-wall and entertaining, but also have something true to the heart and sincere. I can't help but love his work :')

Park Chan Wook
South Korean
Plot twist king. He's excellent in framing a story and then flipping it upside down into directions you're not expecting.
-
Lee Yoon Jung
South Korean
She has a cute laugh! I think I would not want to meet her in person based on her interviews, but I'll always remember the drama she pulled out of Coffee Prince fondly.

Leesong Hee Il
South Korean
-
Zhi Zhu
Chinese
Telling the kind of stories I want to watch. Idk how she builds up chemistry that fast.

Imaizumi Rikiya
Japanese
I like the way he frames stories and camera angles (His Movie). He lets scenes breath, but not in a way that feels draggy. Close and intimate moments usually have the camera pulled back instead of super closer like we might expect, but it... I don't know, it works somehow. In a strange way. :)
-
Nakagawa Kazuhiro
Japanese
This director has good things coming to him. He's just so talented. Going to wait and see what he comes up with.
I really liked the way he can have the visuals of a scene contradict the direction a scene is going, how that unsettles the viewer, and then that instinct being rewarded when the scene finally unravels. It feels like he respects his audience to be smart enough to understand. I still didn't get the ending of Double, but the show was really rewarding to watch.
-
Matsumoto Soushi
Japanese
While i wasn't a fan of Suiyobi, I really liked the detail that went into Nagatan via the ending credits, each ending was unique and built on the containing episode. The cinematography was also pretty cool.
-
Sakai Mai
Japanese
Idk if she does the casting herself or not, but she has a good eye. Either that, or she's good at pulling out emotions from her actors. Even when they struggle, I can still see the effort the actors put into it, which is... really nice. Plus I like the artsy and clean look she has in her stuff. Some of her works are stronger than others, but I'll forgive the faults. However, she also has content that I refuse to watch.

Doi Nobuhiro
Japanese
- Nagi no Oitoma
- Quartet (collabed with Kaneko Fuminori)
- Juhan Shuttai!
- Hanamizuki
- Love Shuffle (dropped)
Eccentric storytelling
