This story has so many interesting female characters... and then it seems to have trouble remembering what motivates them. It's not just that there's a lot of rape and threatened rape in this show , but also that it drives the plot when there are perfectly good political mysteries to focus on.

this is what the maid's revenge is all about - it's baked into the plot

omfg the younger sister - I felt bad … *also* though *she* rapes SML … and the show tries to make it okay

Are things going too smoothly? Need a character to act irrationally because the conflict wouldn't make sense otherwise? Want someone to be extra sad as a surprise? Have you considered rape? This show has.

might not fit this list exactly - SPOILERS - One of the female characters gets married off to a guy she's unwilling to marry, and they definitely consummate, unlike the main couple. A few times she's shown to be covered in bruises.

Despite being a show I enjoyed a lot, this story seems to have very little concept of women as anything other than virgins, victims, or evil schemers.  (warnings for episode 7)

This show is about seeking justice against a serial rapist, so it's not a breakdown in the writing. So this isn't necessarily a lack of writing skill as much as just a choice of topic. But adding it because it still has assault in it and the summary is being a bit coy.
