DramaSOOOOOOOOOO MANY HEARTS.
This drama was amazing. Had my complete attention from beginning to end. Everyone did an amazing job, but Jo Jung Suk was just acting his heart out there. An absolute masterclass in acting right there. From every micromovement in his face conveying 30 emotions at once, as Lee In grappled with all the emotions inside him, to the way his voice quivered, yet remained sturdy and unyielding. His character is complex, and Jung Suk masterfully displays every part.
His character is so intricate however, that when you go to his counterpart, who's story is much more straight forward and something viewers are used to seeing it can come off as not as good, however Shin Sae Kyeong does her best with the role, and nails what she needs to for the role (aside from costuming and makeup which needed to do something... ain't no one falling for her male disguise).
Cinematography is absolutely brilliant and the directing for each of the scenes really elicits all the emotions and meaning left unsaid. Utterly beautiful.
Shout out to Park Ye Young (Court Lady Dong), Choi Dae Hoon (Lee Sun), Choi Ye Chan (Grand Prince) for their portrayals as well as other support characters that without the show would have been all th lesser without. -
8. MBTI Inside
Korean TV Show - 2021, 6 episodes
3/17
Reality TVAbsolutely beautiful. I know there's probably some change in behaviors due to a camera, the desire to be voted on by the others, desire to show what "their MBTI should look like", but there's just a realness that all the people connected to this brought to it. It just was very interesting to see the differences between each letter of MBTI (how they interact/think about the world), as well as the similarities and the fact that we aren't just black & white, we can still have traits of the other letter. As well as the fact, it's not a box, and you can change parts.
You can tell the people involved also enjoyed it, as many of them have reacted on YouTube to it, some contacting/inviting others who were part of the show to give their perspective as well. -
9. Build Up: Vocal Boy Group Survivor
Korean TV Show - 2024, 10 episodes
3/29
SurvivalI Picked this one up for Donghun (I am a Choice(Fan of A.C.E)) even though I'm not too much a fan of survival shows. While packed with a lot of talent, hard work, and wonderfully built relationships, the show itself was not organized very well.
Early voting had viewers voting for the 4 contestants they would like to see in. At the end of each episode, rankings from the results would be shown. However nothing else happened with these votes, the rankings were meaningless. It may have been good the votes were meaningless, however, as many of the early episode were films weeks in advance, one would find themselves voting for someone who might've already been eliminated.
It's pacing was off as well, taking 3 episodes for one round (which initially I appreciated, as it appeared there was some time given to each team to shine) only to end the last 4 songs within 3 minutes.
As I said there was a lot of talent, and I think the way the show had you pick a single group without letting different combinations happen effectively keeping a super group from forming, aggravated by splitting up the "top tiers" by making them pick the groups separately. Of course part of this anger may stem from having a group of 4 I loved and only having 1 in the winning team (let me stress again how good everyone has been though). -
