Oh dear. So, let's get into this hot mess. The first 8 eps? I loved them. The chemisty between Sa-Eon and Hee-Joo was sizzling and I felt as if I was intruding. The plot was plotting and I was hooked. But then the story lost its appeal. Whenever the plot was getting dry, they just threw in another kidnapping. Maybe they should have cut the drama to 10 eps. Also, ep 11 felt like a melodrama rather than a romance-thriller, which I originally signed up for. Also, starting from ep 8 (?), I started to become more invested in the story between Yoo Ri and Sang Woo. They were just so cute. Both very positive and light people. I really appreciated them. And then came ep. 12: The downfall of this drama. This ep certainly reach soap opera vibes. Like no good explanations for anything. The leads lost their logic, their intelligence. Like... seriously, Sa-Eon??? And, girl, going to a war-ridden country for a man who left you with no explanation, punishing you the same way as his "mum" did??? Really??? And then, wtf did you expect from dressing like this and standing there like a vase in a desert? The worst hiding I have ever seen lmao.
Regarding the highly disputed scene/news report at the end of the drama: I find it highly distasteful and disrespectful to include names of conflict states that are so similar to Palestine and Israel. They could have used literally any other made-up name. However, the news headline framed "Izmael" as the worse state, being responsible for the kidnapping of the Koreans. Hence, I wouldn't say that the writer and director were siding with Israel.
Anyhow, the first 8 eps would have gotten an 8.5/10 from me. After watching eps 11 and 12, I can only rate this a 7.5, which is already generous. The ending absolutely ruined it for me but the first eps were highly entertaining, so I will still think somewhat fondly of this drama. The actors were also absolutely amazing.
