Dramas I have watched (most are BL)
This is so that I know what to watch again when the need arises.
-
1. The Effect
Thai Drama - 2019, 3 episodes
It deals with a subject matter that permeates the BL genre, only it deals with it the right way. It's a tough and emotional watch, but I think everyone should watch something like this at least once.
-
2. Great Men Academy
Thai Drama - 2019, 8 episodes
Interesting premise. Good casting.
-
3. Diary of Tootsies
Thai Drama - 2016, 12 episodes
Hilarious to gays, but with humor that can be a bit dated at times. Golf's weight is the butt of jokes way too often. Still, the fact that the protagonists are effeminate men (and a lesbian) is pretty novel. Usually in Thai BLs ladyboys are just comic relief, so this is a nice change that brings interesting storylines.
-
4. Diary of Tootsies Season 2
Thai Drama - 2017, 12 episodes
Slightly not as good as the first season, but still good.
-
5. Love by Chance
Thai Drama - 2018, 14 episodes
I like it, but upon rewatch it didn't seem as good as the first time. I don't really love the TinCan storyline because Can aways seems reluctant. The Techno storyline I just pretend is not there.
-
6. Until We Meet Again
Thai Drama - 2019, 17 episodes
There isn't a lot of romantic conflict here. The guys meet, fall in love, and get together, pretty stress-free. No girls getting in the way—only the great Sammy Coates, this time joined by Pineare (Noh's ex Yuri from Love Sick, though a lot less annoying) supporting the gay couples.
Which is not to say that it's bland, only the conflict in this series is not about the guys getting together, but rather dealing with homophobic parents—at least in the past. -
7. Tootsies and the Fake
Thai Movie - 2019
The humor in this movie seems more forced (and slightly more scatological) than in the series. Then there's that frustrating ship…
-
8. Together with Me
Thai Drama - 2017, 13 episodes
I laughed a lot while watching, the couples have chemistry, and the make-out scenes were good.
-
9. Why R U?
Thai Drama - 2020, 13 episodes
I loved it. What is there to say? The story, though not groundbreaking, was good. The actors have chemistry, the make out scenes are HOT! This is, quite honestly, one of the best.
-
10. My Engineer
Thai Drama - 2020, 14 episodes
-
11. YYY
Thai Drama - 2020, 6 episodes
The comedic style in this wasn't all that funny to me, and several of the secondary characters could be explorer further. No one was raped—though one person was grabbed by the balls as a joke—, so that's a plus.
-
12. He's Coming to Me
Thai Drama - 2019, 8 episodes
Sweet, interesting premise, no red flags, and it has Ohm and Singto.
-
13. Gameboys
Filipino Drama - 2020, 13 episodes
Very well made, and the actors are good and cute. I just didn't love the social media/video calls format.
-
14. HIStory3: Trapped
Taiwanese Special - 2019, 20 episodes
Nice couples. Interesting (though sometimes convoluted) storyline. I always like it when the BL genre meets the action genre. Oh, and the secondary uke (I'm assuming…) is adorable!
-
15. HIStory3: Make Our Days Count
Taiwanese Special - 2019, 20 episodes
Would have gotten a higher note if not for that ending. I understand it was the premise, but still…
-
16. HIStory2: Crossing the Line
Taiwanese Special - 2018, 8 episodes
Nice story, cute protags, no creepiness. In other words: very good.
-
17. Signal
Korean Drama - 2016, 16 episodes
NOT BL. Pretty great. The actors are amazing. It's not a 10 because of the ending, which is a bit of a cliffhanger and a second season is unlikely, the unsatisfying way Detective Park's brother Seon Woo was dealt with, and the times I was frustrated because they could have given more and better information over the radio but instead they wasted the short calls with irrelevant (usually unnecessarily emotional) stuff.
-
18. Because of You
Taiwanese Drama - 2020, 10 episodes
Entertaining, but a bit cringy at times, as well as clichéd and rushed.
-
19. Where Your Eyes Linger
Korean Drama - 2020, 8 episodes
-
20. Life: Senjou no Bokura
Japanese Drama - 2020, 4 episodes
Very good and realistic. Doesn't feel too rushed despite showing over a decade of the protags' life in just four episodes. It shows the work it takes, the communication required, and the pitfalls that might doom a gay relationship.
-
21. Mr. Heart
Korean Drama - 2020, 8 episodes
Entertaining, but a bit bland. The uke is adorable. The loan shark part seems tacked on just so there could be some drama. The uke's reaction to the contract and his actions immediately after their last race make little sense to me.
-
22. HIStory2: Right or Wrong
Taiwanese Special - 2018, 8 episodes
-
23. HIStory: My Hero
Taiwanese Special - 2017, 4 episodes
Funny at times, but the “girl wakes up in a boy's body and has to figure out how a penis works” trope is old. Some people might think this is not a BL because it's about a guy falling in love with a girl in a guy's body. That's not what this story is, though, and it is in fact a BL.
-
24. HIStory: Obsessed
Taiwanese Special - 2017, 4 episodes
First and foremost, Teddy Ren is adorable, and a good actor (maybe a bit overly dramatic at times). The second protag in this is Chernobyl personified, though. This portrays a very unhealthy, toxic relationship as though it is loving and romantic. Believe me: telling your lover, in all seriousness, that you'll kill him if he leaves you because you won't let anyone else have him is not romantic.
The only reason I'm giving it such a high rating is because it was well-acted, the secondary characters were interesting (though sparsely developed) and the production value was good. -
25. The Novelist
Japanese Drama - 2018, 6 episodes
The writer is abusive towards the kid, and the ending is meh. The kisses and sex scenes are pretty steamy, more than any other BL I've seen.
-
26. In Between
Filipino Drama - 2020, 14 episodes
Very slow and stretched out. Lots of flashbacks to the previous episodes (some later episodes have more scenes from previous episodes than new ones) The secondary couple is adorable and has potential.
-
27. Hello Stranger
Filipino Drama - 2020, 8 episodes
Light and fluffy. Well made and well acted.
-
28. Red Balloon
Taiwanese Drama - 2017, 8 episodes
Cute, but at the same time the ending isn't as satisfying as I would have liked.
-
29. Theory of Love
Thai Drama - 2019, 12 episodes
Not too heavy. Didn't feel stretched. Probably could have a couple more episodes so the secondary couple could be developed a little more.
-
30. Location
Thai Movie - 2020
Light and fluffy. Well produced and well acted.
-
31. I Told Sunset about You
Thai Drama - 2020, 5 episodes
A work of art. High production value, great actors, nice music… If I were to look for one thing to complain about it would be the protag's indecision… but even that is realistic and aligns with the story. And I don't really get the point of that bra scene. Still, those are minor nitpicks.
-
32. To My Star
Korean Drama - 2021, 9 episodes
Light, fluffy, and adorable. I had a smile on practically from the first scene to the last. I wish it was longer.
-
33. Color Rush
Korean Drama - 2020, 8 episodes
Interesting premise. Loose threads that should be addressed in a future season.
-
34. We Best Love: No. 1 For You
Taiwanese Drama - 2021, 6 episodes
Pretty good.
-
35. A Tale of Thousand Stars
Thai Drama - 2021, 10 episodes
Very well made (though they still haven't learned not to use lapel mics when the characters will be hugging), and the story is pretty interesting. The ending is a bit more prude than I'd have liked, but it's still worth it.
-
36. Wish You: Your Melody From My Heart (Movie)
Korean Movie - 2021
It's well made and the actors are good and handsome. I just think the story could be a little deeper. Still, worth the watch for sure.
-
37. Like in the Movies
Filipino Drama - 2020, 8 episodes
Very well made. The story is interesting, though not particularly complex. It deals with issues that need dealing with, but in doing that the ending feels… inconclusive.
-
38. You Make Me Dance
Korean Drama - 2021, 8 episodes
Well produced and well acted. Some cringy dialog and some drama caused by a character being muzzled by the plot (i.e. he could explain things but chooses not to so that some drama can unfold). Still, worth the watch.
-
39. Fish Upon the Sky
Thai Drama - 2021, 12 episodes
I liked it a lot. Silly comedy that isn't cringy, and interesting plots with good actors. The only thing that stretches my suspension of disbelief is the notion that Phuwin was ever ugly.
-
40. Second Chance
Thai Drama - 2021, 6 episodes
Cute and light. The sound could have been better and the stories were a bit short, but a nice watch nonetheless.
-
41. Lovely Writer
Thai Drama - 2021, 12 episodes
Good story, important messages, good actors, nice production value. The only thing I don't love are the silly sound effects. But that shouldn't stop me from watching it again and again.
-
42. We Best Love: Fighting Mr. 2nd
Taiwanese Drama - 2021, 6 episodes
Could have rated higher if it weren't for the assault. Even if it weren't meant to be romantic, it still wasn't dealt with, only brushed aside. Apart from that, it was a nice series.
-
43. Nitiman
Thai Drama - 2021, 10 episodes
Jom is adorable—and so are several of the supporting characters—and those legs of his tend to steal the scene. The story is sweet, though slightly convoluted. It's worth the watch.
-
44. Manner of Death
Thai Drama - 2020, 14 episodes
It can be a bit much to watch in one sitting, but it's very good. I always like when BL meets action, and one can never go wrong with MaxTul. That (Bhu) and Sorawit (Putter) are adorable together.
-
45. My Gear and Your Gown
Thai Drama - 2020, 12 episodes
Not too deep, but still pretty cute.
-
46. Light on Me
Korean Drama - 2021, 16 episodes
Well made and very cute.
-
47. Be Loved in House: I Do
Taiwanese Drama - 2021, 12 episodes
It was well made and the actors are beautiful. But there is the classic trope of stretching things out by muzzling a character in order to build misunderstandings. There is an in-universe reason for the character to have trouble talking about his feelings, but I still think it was overdone. Still worth a watch, though.
-
48. Life: Love on the Line (Director's Cut)
Japanese Movie - 2020
The Director's Cut manages to be better than the miniseries. I love this for sure!
-
49. Zettai BL ni Naru Sekai VS Zettai BL ni Naritakunai Otoko
Japanese Special - 2021, 1 episode
What a riot!
-
50. His - Koisuru Tsumori Nante Nakatta
Japanese Drama - 2019, 5 episodes
Such a gem. Sweet and cute. I gave it an extra half a point because it's one of the few BLs where the girls aren't there only to be hated by the audience.
-
51. The Boy Foretold by the Stars
Filipino Movie - 2020
A tad more religion that I'd prefer, but it has good production value, an interesting story, and effeminate characters who aren't there just to be the butt of jokes. I just think it could have gone a bit further, to show the fallout of Luke's decision. Maybe that's what the series does.
-
52. Love Beneath the Stars
Filipino Drama - 2021, 6 episodes
A worthy sequel to the movie. A second season would be nice, though.
-
53. SaifahZon Story
Thai Special - 2020, 3 episodes
Pure fluff. Very little plot. Still worth a watch, though. Tommy is too adorable.
-
54. Bad Buddy
Thai Drama - 2021, 12 episodes
Great ride. Ohm and Nanon's chemistry is off the charts. There is a GL couple too.
-
55. Not Me
Thai Drama - 2021, 14 episodes
Very good actors with great chemistry. Interesting story. LGBT+ issues taken seriously. Well-made. Gun was able to impart different personalities to his characters, to the point that I was able to tell the twins apart just by looking at their face.
-
56. 30-sai made Dotei Da to Mahotsukai ni Nareru rashii
Japanese Drama - 2020, 12 episodes
Well-made, with good actors and an interesting script. A bit too tame.
-
57. Semantic Error
Korean Drama - 2022, 8 episodes
The story is cute and the production is good. The actors are good too, and Park Jae Chan's lips are very distracting.
-
58. Kieta Hatsukoi
Japanese Drama - 2021, 10 episodes
Very funny, sweet, and light. What's not to like? Just two things: it was too tame, and there was one glaring instance of a character muzzled by the plot. Still, well worth the watch.
-
59. Secret Crush on You
Thai Drama - 2022, 14 episodes
Very well made. The actors are great. It may not seem like it at first, but it deals with heavy themes, and shows a great deal of sensibility in dealing with them. The effeminate/trans characters are there to be important parts of the story, not the butt of jokes, and that is quite a change for Thai productions.
-
60. Cherry Blossoms after Winter
Korean Drama - 2022, 8 episodes
The actors are good. The plot is not very heavy, and features some odd time skips. There are a few editing issues (awkward transitions). Worth a watch, though.
-
61. Cutie Pie
Thai Drama - 2022, 12 episodes
Pretty great. Good actors with amazing chemistry, hot make-out scenes, great production. The plot is a bit contrived, with people keeping secrets seemingly for no reason, but that can easily be overlooked.
-
62. Love Stage!!
Thai Drama - 2022, 10 episodes
I like that the plot deviated from the manga. Turbo is adorable! The actors are good, and the production is solid.
-
63. His
Japanese Movie - 2020
Good actors, good production, good plot that deals with some heavy issues. An LGBT+ movie more than a BL movie. Pretty good.
-
64. Cupid's Last Wish
Thai Drama - 2022, 10 episodes
I liked it a lot. It was nice to see Mix as a hotheaded guy. Though I took half a point off because part of what drives the action is a character muzzled by the plot. That is, a misunderstanding that one character just chooses not to clear up. But it's still pretty good, and it's always nice to see White Nawat as well. Both Mix (playing Win and Lin) and Jan Ployshompoo (playing Lin and Win) were good as either character.
-
65. I Promised You the Moon
Thai Drama - 2021, 5 episodes
Definitely a worthy successor. I hope to see Billkin and PP in other roles. They are very good.
-
66. Vice Versa
Thai Drama - 2022, 12 episodes
Interesting premise, good production value.
-
67. My Only 12%
Thai Drama - 2022, 14 episodes
A compelling story with great production. The nostalgia factor is off the charts in this one. I was about the characters' age when I spent a good part of my afternoons chatting with my friends on MSN Messenger. Earth was great, as always, and Santa did a great job as well. It was very nice to see Peak again, as well as Oat and Prem. I just think it was a bit too tame by the end.
-
68. My School President
Thai Drama - 2022, 12 episodes
Interesting story, silly humor that was not cringy, great songs, good actors (who are also good-looking), and very well produced. Definitely one of the best of the year.
-
69. The Warp Effect
Thai Drama - 2022, 12 episodes
This is such an amazing series. I barely have the words. I almost skipped it because it wasn't a BL, which would have been a mistake. The way it teaches about consent and communication and accepting each other's differences is unrivaled. New is great in it, and so is Sing (as always), Mark, and everyone else. Silvy is a gem.
-
70. 609 Bedtime Story
Thai Drama - 2022, 11 episodes
Such a different kind of story! Ohm and the adorable Fluke don't disappoint. The secondary couple as well as the other secondary characters are interesting too. The production was high-quality. I recommend watching ending 11.1 before 11.2.
-
71. Never Let Me Go
Thai Drama - 2022, 12 episodes
Phuwin is adorable, and I really liked him playing a character who is rich and confident. Perth and Chimon played their characters well. The story, to be honest, was a bit weak, and the main couple promising to always be together only for one of them to break up with the other “for their own good” got old. The production was pretty good.
-
72. The Eclipse
Thai Drama - 2022, 12 episodes
Well produced, with a relevant story and good actors. Neo playing a dramatic role instead of being the comic relief? Sign me up! First was great, and Khaotung wasn't far behind.
-
73. Star and Sky: Star in My Mind
Thai Drama - 2022, 8 episodes
It's entertaining, and Dunk is adorable. It was hard to read the subtitles because his mouth kept attracting my attention. But why are we, in 2023, still going for the trope of kissing the guy he likes while he's asleep before there's any sort of romantic relationship between them? And when will they learn not to use lapel mics when the characters will be hugging?
-
74. Star and Sky: Sky in Your Heart
Thai Drama - 2022, 8 episodes
Despite only having 8 episodes, I thought it was a bit slow; didn't really grab my attention. I would watch one or two episodes, then go do something else and get back to it later. But it's a good production with a nice story and good actors.
-
75. Triage
Thai Drama - 2022, 13 episodes
I liked the premise, and the execution was not bad, but I felt that it dragged on in several parts. I found myself constantly getting distracted. It's watchable, but the plot in the last few episodes was in parts repetitive, in parts a bit nonsensical (as in, the sequence of events and/or character actions didn't make sense at times) and in parts a bit ridiculous.
-
76. Dangerous Romance
Thai Drama - 2023, 12 episodes
It was nice to see Perth and Chimon again. All characters were interesting, though some weren't that deeply developed. The story has interesting themes.
-
77. Kimi ni wa Todokanai.
Japanese Drama - 2023, 8 episodes
-
78. Cherry Magic
Thai Drama - 2023, 12 episodes
Well produced, the actors are veterans and did their job well, and I was laughing or smiling throughout. Dragged a bit by the end, but it's still well worth the watch. As always, Sing Harit was a riot.
