  1. Autumn’s Concerto:A beautiful and passionate love story is interrupted for six years. Manipulative and controlling people change the destiny of Ren Guang Xi (Vanness Wu) and Liang MuCheng (Ady An) when a serious health crisis arises. Six years later, the consequences of being separated are revealed and their love story overcomes many obstacles based on lies, misunderstandings and betrayals. They have to find the courage to love each other and fight to stay together when the memories of their past becomes a clear picture in the present. Timing once again is everything when it comes to true love and cherishing those you love is the key to finding happiness. There were a lot of truly moving scenes and other scenes left me feeling warm and happy. Andy An can cry as MuCheng. I cried too many times and sometimes couldn’t stop for a while. Xiao Le (Benny Wen) made me feel so many emotions. I wanted to hug him every time he appeared on screen. The cutest actor I’ve ever seen in my life. Love the crazy ending which, at first, made me frustrated and upset. I liked the way it wrapped up the different storylines of the many characters.

spoilers: This beautiful love story between Su Bei(Chen Shu Jun) & Lu Nan(Ross Chen) was almost eclipsed by Chris(Chen Tian Yu). He was the ultimate, most adorable scene-stealer I've ever seen. He just melted my heart. The chemistry between Chen Shu Jun & Ross Chen, especially the many kissing scenes & romantic moments kept me engaged and wanting more. In order to save the family company's reputation from designer plagiarism claims, Su Bei's husband forced her to go abroad, 7 years ago, expecting to come home soon. She came back from Italy to investigate the truth surrounding her Aunt's coma. She came back as "Annie", a renowned model agent and employed by her husband's company. When they crossed paths again, Lu Nan's memories of Su Bei were gone. The day he sent her abroad, he was in a car accident, in a coma for five years, and left with a brain injury. Su Bei found out about the accident when she returned home. They eventually rekindled their love for each other, and Lu Nan regained his lost memories after suffering another traumatic injury. Together, they had to uncover the plots to destroy them and their relationship. They set up traps to expose those who wanted to bring them down. For Gu Yan(Jiang Xin Qi), his hatred stemmed from a misunderstanding 22 years ago when he was saved from bullies, as an orphan, and a promise made, but not fulfilled. It was also connected to Lu Nan's adopted obsessive, manipulative sister, Fei. A medical crisis became the biggest threat to Lu Nan & Su Bei's family. I lost count of how many times Lu Nan was hospitalized. However, the romantic proposal that Su Bei deserved was beautifully orchestrated, especially after the disastrous first attempt. I loved the beach scene at the end and I expected nothing less after all the ups and downs throughout the show.

  • Our Beloved Summer

    Korean Drama - 2021, 16 episodes

spoilers: First, I loved the entire, amazing cast! The love story between Choi Woong(Choi Woo Shik) & Gook Yeon Soo (Kim Da Mi) began in high school, ten years ago. They were paid to take part in a documentary that followed the worst and best student in their class. Top student, Gook Yeon Soo, was a beautiful, misunderstood student who was raised by her grandmother. She presented a tough exterior, but carried the insecurities and burdens of growing up poor. Choi Woong had loving parents, but a traumatic abandonment event, as a child, left him emotionally scarred. They were opposites and their constant personality clashes were like fireworks, but opposites attract. Spending so much time together, they saw glimpses of each other's true selves, which led to a 5-year relationship. It culminated in a very painful break up(I was left in tears). Ten years after the documentary, they were reunited for a follow up documentary. Choi Woong became a successful artist & Gook Yeon Soo was a talented marketing/PR team leader. They ended up working together on a mutual project and their reunion played out on camera. When the revelations of their painful break up, 5 years ago, were uncovered, they had to learn to lean on each other and embrace their true, imperfect selves. It forced them to re-examine their lives, including friends, family & careers. It also led to a 2-year long distance relationship when Woong studied architecture abroad. I loved the proposal that included a surprise drawing for Yeon Soo. Another follow up documentary about the married couple was a fitting ending.

  • My Dear Guardian

    203. My Dear Guardian

    Chinese Drama - 2021, 40 episodes

spoilers: The outstanding cast, led by Johnny Huang(Liang Mu Ze), Li Qin(Xia Chu), Nie Zi Hao(Zhuo Ran/Pei Yu) & Yang Shu(Mi Gu) gave this show heart and soul and lifted it into the stratosphere. It's what a true drama looks like. This action-packed show included amazing, nail-biting fight & training scenes, high-octane car chases and death-defying stunts. Humanity's role in the fight between good and evil is played out, for example, in Zhuo Ran's Jekyll/Hyde-like character. I laughed and cried a lot. The often complex characters kept me riveted during their journey called life. For Liang Mu Ze & Xia Chu, their career choices led them on a journey of self-discovery, self-sacrifice & reflection. Their love endured sometimes life-threatening challenges. Mu Ze, a career soldier in Special Forces, learned to open his heart to first year military resident doctor, Xia Chu. Together, they faced unresolved, traumatic events from their pasts and formed an unbreakable bond. It came from finding their true selves & choosing to live life without regrets. Best supporting roles goes to Jiang Yuan(Liang Shao Xue) & Zhao Xun(Tian Yong). They gave often heartbreaking, gut-wrenching performances that left me in tears. Shao Xue, in episode 38, had one of the saddest goodbyes I've ever seen, followed by the most touching, unforgettable send off for a hero. The hospital hallway was lined with mostly military & police in respectful salute. Keep the tissue handy.

  • The Beauty Inside

    204. The Beauty Inside

    Korean Drama - 2018, 16 episodes

spoilers: First, the beautiful cast had believable chemistry. They included the hot chemistry between Seo Hyun Jin (Han Se Gye) & Lee Min Ki(Seo Do Jae) & Lee Da Hee(Kang Sa Ra) & Ahn Jae Hyun(Ryu Eun Ho). Lee Da Hee & Ahn were almost too beautiful together that I was mesmerized. Because I'm a big fan of Lee Min Ki, I loved this drama even more. The love story between Han Se Gye & Seo Do Jae was about seeing the inner beauty in each other and accepting that perfect imperfections is part of what makes someone uniquely beautiful and deserving of love. Their paths first crossed ten years ago, when Se Gye's strange body changing disorder first materialized. Every month, she turned into a different person of different ages, genders, & races. Do Jae's selfless act of saving a woman's life resulted in getting hit by a car and a life-altering brain damage disorder, prosopagnosia. Unable to recognize faces, he learned skills & methods to maneuver his way through life as an airline executive in his family's business. Se Gye and Do Jae entered into a contract fake relationship that, publicly, ended when they started dating for real. When they revealed their disorders to each other, only self-love and love for each other could keep them together. However, when Se Gye blamed herself for Do Jae's accident,10 years ago, she retired from acting and lived in seclusion for a year. In that period, Do Jae sought a cure abroad for his brain damage, which offered a better chance of success that wasn't possible a decade ago. Back in Seoul, Do Jae returned to work as the company President and was determined to get Se Gye back. I loved the beach scene at the end with the flashbacks that showed how much they had to overcome to arrive at the undeniable, unbreakable place in their relationship, an enduring love for each other.

  • Snow Lover

    205. Snow Lover

    Chinese Drama - 2021, 24 episodes

    9.0

spoilers: This drama was definitely aimed toward a female audience who likes sweet, romantic love stories. The main characters, He Feng(Koh Gao) & Wang Xiao An(Xu Xiao Nuo) went on a journey of rediscovering each other and clearing up a misunderstanding from their past. After their break up, in college, 5 years ago, He Feng hired Wang Xiao An because he needed a ski master/script writer for a new ski-related game he was developing for a company. What they thought were forgotten feelings for each other resurfaced and their love for each other rekindled. They had to learn to trust and support each other through company sabotage, career scandals, and self-doubt. I didn't figure out the main saboteur of the company because I was effectively distracted. I laughed a lot throughout the show, but I loved the romantic moments. My favorite was He Feng putting a ring on Xiao An. Moreover, the break up between Jin Jin(Zhang Xin) & Ye Nan(Zeng Ke Lang) was both moving and tear-worthy. Also, the heart-warming, believable BFF relationship between Jin Jin & Xiao An was a testament to their chemistry. I also loved He Jing Xiao's relationship with He Feng and the relationship advise he often gave his "nephew." I wanted more when the show ended because it was easy to love/identify with most of the characters. Even though He Feng had to use a "cave man" method to pin down Xiao An, I was happy they finally got married, fittingly in ski-wear.

  • In Love with Your Dimples

    206. In Love with Your Dimples

    Chinese Drama - 2021, 24 episodes

    9.0

spoilers: First, the title was somewhat misleading. Lucky Tang(Estelle Chen) moved back to China, from America, heartbroken & unemployed. All her life, she was a top student and graduated from a top college abroad, majoring in computer science. She was a genius computer science engineer at a top company, but longed for a normal, peaceful life. Missing out on her childhood, she wanted to experience the simplicity and beauty of life. She went back to her childhood home and ended up becoming friends with a current, male tenant, He Qi Zhan(Li Jia Hao). She was hired at Tianzhuo Tech, as a receptionist/assistant. The Chairman, Lu Zhi Yi(Xu Kai Xin) was Qi Zhan's BFF & boss. It turned out that Lucky and Zhi Yi knew each other in middle school. At first, their personalities clashed at worked. Both suffered heartbreak, but found true love. Together, they overcame workplace rumors & sabotage & competition for their hearts from an ex-girlfriend and a college crush. I loved Meng Di(Wang Zhi Yi) & Qi Zhan together. They always put a smile on my face. Some of the most touching scenes involved the He brothers, especially when Qiao Sheng(Yang Shi Ze) went off to college abroad. I didn't like the repeat flashbacks &, sometimes, the background music was a distraction during some scenes. However, the ending was perfectly executed. The younger & adult versions of Lucky & Zhi Yi overlapped as Zhi Yi played the piano & Lucky sang "Encounter." The lit-up triple heart sculptures & stars on the sand and Lucky's white gown & adorned hair was beautiful & romantic.

  • Now, We Are Breaking Up

    207. Now, We Are Breaking Up

    Korean Drama - 2021, 16 episodes

    9.0

spoilers: I loved the chemistry of the whole incredible cast. I'm also a big fan of Jang Ki Yong (as Yoon Jae Guk) whose presence on the screen means his co-star has to be equally riveting to capture my attention. Song Hye Kyo (as Ha Young Eun) had amazing, sometimes smoldering chemistry with Jang Ki Yong. With a title about breaking up, and constant reminders by the two main characters about breaking up, it wasn't a big surprise what the viewer should expect. In a twist of fate, Ha Young Eun , a fashion design student, and Yoon Jae Guk, an aspiring photographer, were connected by many coincidences and a heartbreaking tragedy, in Paris, 10 years ago. Ten years later, a one-night stand between them opened the door & their hearts to the possibilites of a true, enduring love. Both busy with their careers(she, a renowned fashion co. team leader/designer & he, a popular photographer) they had to learn to let go of the past and have the courage to love in the moment, no matter how long it lasts. They had to overcome prejudice and disapproval. Their careers eventually led to a 2-year separation, but all paths eventually led them to each other. I loved the BFF relationship between Ha Young Eun and her girlfriends. Mi Suk's tragic story was gut-wrenchingly sad(get out the tissues). Also, I loved the chemistry/love story between Chi Sook(Choi Hee Seo) & Do Hoon(Kim Joo Heon). Although the ending left me hanging, I had to trust that what was said before between Young Eun & Jae Guk meant it was a happy ending.

  • Love O'Clock

    208. Love O'Clock

    Chinese Drama - 2021, 24 episodes

    8.5

spoilers: I recommend this for those who are looking for a sweet, romantic, &, sometimes, funny love story. Lu Yun Zhi(Peng Chu Yue), a Chief Editor, inherited an antique Sun Clock, which was part of a pair. A morning person, his life & work was very organized & precise around the clock. A night owl, He Zhen(Sharon Wang) was an inspiring writer who wrote at night. Coincidentally, He Zhen was in possession of the second clock, the New Moon Clock, gifted to her great-grandfather. After a copyright case took away He Zhen's rights to her own novel, she looked to Lu Yun Zhi to help her develop into a better writer, through a company training program looking for new generation authors. Lu Yun Zhi hired He Zhen as his assistant editor in order to gain possession of her New Moon Clock. During a solar eclipse, the two clocks together created a "clock shift", where Lu Yun Zhi became a night owl & He Zhen became a morning person. They agreed to live together in Lu's house when they discovered He Zhen's close presence allowed Lu to sleep at night. According to legend, bringing the two clocks together during a solar eclipse results in a miracle. Perhaps falling for each other was their miracle. However, Lu's tragic past, that involved his best friend, and a secret identity, threatened to bring down Lu when obsessed college mate, Lin Yue, a renowned artist, returned from abroad. Lu Yun Zhi & He Zhen had to overcome rumors that threatened their careers and relationship. They had to believe in each other and Lu had to learn to let go of the guilt from his past. He Zhen showed him that it's more important how time is spent. I loved the three beautiful couples, Lu Yun Zhi/He Zhen, Han Shi/Lin Tian Yi, & Qi Cheng/Mi Si Wei. In fact, the characters were perfectly cast. Lastly, the dance number at the end, reminiscent of a C-pop/K-pop dance routine, was a light-hearted way to end this feel good show.

  • Rainless Love in a Godless Land

    209. Rainless Love in a Godless Land

    Taiwanese Drama - 2021, 13 episodes

    9.5

spoilers: Kakarayan, the creator of all things, including the human world, fell in love with a human, Tiyamacan. Kakarayan was a lonely God who created his first Kawas, Lemed, god of dreams. As Falia, he was also the secret keeper. The Kawas are blessed spirits that protect the human world. Through dreams, and the help of Toem, goddess of clouds, a Kawas turned Kariah(evil spirit), who protects "lies and every wish that was never realized", Kakarayan played out his greatest wish to become human. He sent his messanger, Orad (Fu Meng Bo), to fulfill his greatest wish. Orad became Xie Tian Di's(Joanne Tseng) guardian angel(a Tiyamacan look-alike). Orad, a rain god, was given the gift of seeing the "Reflection of Time", a window into the future, and the responsibility to carry out Kakarayan's Plan. It included the coming doomsday on earth, after the Kawas leave and the rains stop. It was also supposed to be Xie Tian Di's death day. However, Orad chose Tien Di over the world and changed the Reflection of Time when he prayed to Kakarayan to save her life. I was really confused at times because reality and dreams and the "real" Reflection of Time kept me guessing what was real and which characters really existed. In the end, it was a love story between Orad & Tien Di. Her human memories were made up of experiences that Orad shared and made his existence real. Her belief that Orad would always protect her and be by her side made a dream a reality and fulfilled Kakarayan's greatest wish. When it ended, I was relieved I made it through all the crazy, unexpected storyline twists & turns, especially the constant use of the "comb of memories." My own wish for a great ending was fulfilled.

  • Fall in Love with a Scientist

    210. Fall in Love with a Scientist

    Chinese Drama - 2021, 24 episodes

    9.0

spoilers: When they were children, Yang Lan Hang gave Bai Ling Ling a tin with money inside that he saved (meant for himself)to buy her mom a new heart. He later learned money can't buy a new heart so he became a scientist to make hearts "unbreakable." In a twist of fate, they became virtual friends in high school, until Lan Hang(Jasper Liu) went abroad to study. The friend, who gave Ling Ling(Zhou Yu Tong) hope & encouragement to become the best version of herself, asked her to wait for him. He resurfaced in China as a doctoral student at the same University Ling Ling attended. Unfortunately, he challenged her thesis which prevented her from graduating. Lan Hang chose not to reveal himself as her virtual friend. They eventually worked together in a lab and with his encouragement, and help from her lab colleagues, passed her post grad entrance exam. Ling Ling fell for her virtual boyfriend and Lan Hang. When she found out the truth, she decided to forgive him, but they had to overcome work sabotage and rumors. I loved the BFF relationships and the chemistry between the other two couples. Their proposals were romantic. Dai Jing Yao played twin brothers convincingly. Also, I loved Lan Hang's strong, positive mother. Moreover, Ling Ling's close relationship with Grandma & forgiveness toward her father was heartwarming. Based on the way the show ended, the lab colleagues back together to develop disposable protective suits during an epidemic meant a Season 2?

  • Kingyo Tsuma

    211. Kingyo Tsuma

    Japanese Drama - 2022, 8 episodes

    9.5

spoilers: AKA "Fishbowl Wives", I loved the female characters in this show. They were women who looked like they had everything on the surface, but they lacked inner happiness. They were taken for granted by their husbands and most of them looked outside of marriage to find self-worth and the true other half of their soul. The journey to find your authentic self requires courage to live life on your own terms. The main character, Sakura (Shinohara Ryoko), fled an abusive, controlling, self-absorbed husband who was also her business partner. Years ago, she was a top notch hair stylist until an accident temporarily put an end to her dreams. She met a gold fish shop owner, Haruto(Iwata Takanori), who was tied to her accident. Haruto helped Sakura find the beautiful, courageous woman that needed to break free. She became an independent, single mom whose success was a testament to the strong, confident woman, in touch with her authentic self, living her dreams. I liked the way the show picked up the lives of the other female characters two years later, living life under their terms. Even though Sakura's story was open-ended, I was hopeful she and Haruto eventually fulfilled a promise to watch the fireworks together at the beach and the possibilities of a reconciliation & lasting relationship. Lastly, after their very steamy last night together, before they separated, was he the baby daddy? So many loose ends, and, yet, so many possibilities.

  • My ID Is Gangnam Beauty

    212. My ID Is Gangnam Beauty

    Korean Drama - 2018, 16 episodes

    9.5

spoilers: This unique love story between Hankook University chemistry freshmen, Kang Mi Rae(Im Soo Hyang) & Do Kyung Suk(dreamy Cha Eun Woo) tackles the importance of seeing the heart of a person beyond outward appearances. For Mi Rae, she was bullied all her life because she wasn't pretty. During a cry-worthy scene, a beautiful soul saved her life, "you are the most precious person to yourself." In fact, my favorite character was the strong female character, Na Hye Sung. Before University, Mi Rae had extensive plastic surgery on her face to make her look beautiful. However, she soon learned that beauty had its own challenges and prejudices, and was labelled "Gangnam" beauty. She realized she, too, judged others by their looks and graded their faces. When natural beauty, Hyun Soo Ah(Jo Woo Ri) wanted to be her friend, she was happy. However, she learned that beautiful people have their own insecurities and problems, like everyone else. For Do Kyung Suk, the handsomest on campus, he was a loner who had abandonment issues (when his mother left and his parents divorced a decade ago). He recognized Mi Rae, even with her new face, & remembered the cute, funny girl in Middle School (before he transferred). He cared more about the heart of a person, not their outer appearance. He fell for Mi Rae for the beautiful person she was. However, she had to learn to go after what made her happy and not what others might think. The LOL moments were really funny, like Woo Young's drunk toothbrush scene & Kyung Suk's name tag, "I have a girlfriend." In episode 9, Kyung Suk made recycling look sexy as he stood close to Mi Rae. In fact, all of his scenes will likely leave viewers breathless. Lastly, great casting!

  • 200 Pounds Beauty

    213. 200 Pounds Beauty

    Korean Movie - 2006

    9.5

This was a beautiful love story about loving yourself. It comes from within and others will love the real authentic you. I loved the movie because self love is the most beautiful love there is. The character, Hanna, lost herself after an extensive plastic surgery, and became Jenny. She realized being beautiful on the outside didn’t make her happy. She learned that Hanna was beautiful and those who loved Hanna loved the person that she was. I cried during her journey of self discovery and self love. This was such a touching movie with heart and soul. Be prepared to laugh a lot and cry more.

  • Clean with Passion for Now

    214. Clean with Passion for Now

    Korean Drama - 2018, 16 episodes

    9.5

spoilers: First, R.I.P., Cha In Ha for his portrayal of Hwang Jae Min, a promising actor who brought sincerity & joy as a character in the show and real life. Thank you for sharing your light for 27 years. The show had so much heart & soul through amazing characters, thanks to the great cast. This drama was about family love and the painful journey to find forgiveness. Jang Sun Gyeol (Yoon Kyun Sang) suffered from OCD, a result of an abusive childhood. As CEO of a successful cleaning company, known for it's beautiful employees, his OCD left him isolated from living a normal life. Destined to meet again, after a childhood playground traumatic booger incident, Gil Oh Sol(Kim Yoo Jung) became his best hope. Oh Sol worked for Sun Gyeol before she became his live-in employee to cure his OCD. Oh Sol fell for warm-hearted Sun Gyeol & Sun Gyeol fell for her non-judgmental sincerity. Their sometimes long, steamy kissing scenes kept me mesmerized with their undeniable chemistry. Their perfect comedic timing and subtle or exaggerated facial expressions made for many LOL and cry-worthy (touching & heartbreaking at times)scenes. A family feud led to a 2 year separation that gave them time to become better versions of themselves and their best chance at starting over. Lastly, I loved the friendships between Oh Sol & her coworkers & Dr. Choi. A spin-off featuring Dr. Choi(Song Jae Rim) would make a great drama series. Loved the employees jumping at the end.

  • Love Unexpected

    215. Love Unexpected

    Chinese Drama - 2021, 24 episodes

spoilers: Xu Nuo(Fan Shi Qi), a ruthless businessman, lost his ability to feel emotions when a disgruntled employee rammed into his car, killing Xu's mother & injuring him. Later, he discovered that Ke Si Yi(Judy Qi) was the young woman whose words of encourage saved his life in many ways. Three years later, Si Yi, who's very sensitive to emotions, became his anonymous therapy partner in an attempt to cure his trauma-related mental illness. An electric current overload connecting their therapy helmets resulted in Xu Nuo being able to feel Si Yi's physical pain. Si Yi had the ability to feel Xu Nuo's emotions. Xu Nuo's ruthless reputation led to his need for a body guard. Si Yi applied and got the position. Trained in MMA, she became his live-in bodyguard whose skills came in handy on several occasions. She became his business rival's spy so she could save her family MMA club, which led to serious & dangerous consequences. They seemed destined to fall in love. However, Xu Nuo's goal to get back what belonged to his father set in motion a forced break up to protect Si Yi. In the end, Si Yi's life hung in the balance when Xu Nuo's business rival tried to take them out. The chemistry between Fan Shi Qi & Judy Qi was undeniable. Their sexy drunk bedroom scene(ep.19) & kiss against the window(ep.16) were examples. Also, the show had many LOL moments, like the danger detector Si Yi aimed at Xu Nuo's crotch, wrapped in only a towel, his line, "There's no danger there" was hilarious. The show's scene stealer was Zhou Yan Xin(Wang Xu Dong). I loved the empowerment message of Si Yi & her MMA freinds & sister. The ending left me wanting more as Si Yi hugged Xu Nuo from behind.

    216. Love Unexpected

    Chinese Drama - 2022, 24 episodes

spoilers: The major theme of this time travel love story between Lu Fan Fan(Gong Wan Yi) & Liu Ruo Chen(Yang Ting Dong) was that love is a "parallel line" that exists in a "parallel universe." An unusual phenomenon that involved the Earth's magnetic field transported Fan Fan from 2024 to 2012, where she met her 12-year-old self & 24-year-old version of Lui. The consequences of existing in a world where Fan Fan didn't belong changed events and the lives of those around her. One of the most memorable scenes in the show was in ep.22 when Fan Fan wore only a long shirt after her shower. There was real chemistry between Gong & Yang. I loved the relationship between Fan Fan's parents. Younger Fan Fan was a scene stealer. Also memorable was the hilarious cross-dressing Lui & Qin to lure Gao out. Unfortunately, 2024 Lui was the target of vengeful Gao Ru Wen, who he put in jail. Gao carried out his evil plan in 2012, with the help of the teen version of himself. When Fan Fan suddenly traveled back to 2024, she awoke with no memory of Lui, but it returned after a traumatic life & death incident. However, she returned to 2012 to stop Gao & save Lui, after she suffered a heartbreaking loss that involved a car bomb & a proposal. The story sometimes dragged because of the use of too many flashbacks. It ended in 2025 when Fan Fan woke up from a nearly year long coma, reunited with Lui Ruo Chen. It should've ended during their romantic dinner at the aquarium.

spoilers: This was one of the best & funniest Rom Com I've ever seen. The incredible cast, led by Moon Ga Young(Lim Joo Gyung), Cha Eun Woo(Lee Su Ho), & Hwang In Yeop(Han Seo Jun), gave many unforgettable LOL & touching performances. The perfect comedic timing, through facial & physical expressions, often left me in tears from LOL. However, the serious subject of bullying was beautifully portrayed through some of the characters. They showed the pain & suffering of bullying and the effect on their families & friends. Tragically, Su Ho & Seo Jun lost their friend, Se Yeon, a promising singer, to bullying & false rumors. Their friendship suffered through the pain of loss. For Goo Gyung, because of her looks, she secretly endured bullying in High School. A family crisis and a move to her family's old house meant a new beginning in a new school. With the help of make up to cover up her flaws, she became her new school's "Goddess." The only person who saw her bare face, Su Ho, fell in love with the beauty that came from her heart. When jealous BFF, Soo Jin, exposed her past, Goo Gyung learned she wasn't alone. Her family, friends & faculty shared her nightmare. It gave her the courage to accept who she was and the confidence to be herself. Mr. Han's class reflection on the pain & suffering of bullying was cry-worthy. Su Ho's sudden trip to America to care for his father led to a 2-year break up. Their reunion during the first snow & the continuation of their love story was beautiful. However, Seo Jun's unrequited love for Joo Gyung was heartbreaking. His performance of Se Yeon's song was gut-wrenchingly beautiful. I didn't want this show to end.

    218. Konin Todoke ni Han wo Oshita dake desu ga

    Japanese Drama - 2021, 10 episodes

    9.0

spoilers: This was a love story between an introverted, lonely advertising manager, Momose Shu(Sakaguchi Kentaro) & designer Okado Akiha(Seino Nana). They entered into a "fake marriage" when Akiha needed to pay off family debt. For Shu, it gave him a guise to love his sister-in-law from a distance. Their contract included not falling in love with each other. Once Akiha's debt was paid off, they agreed to an immediate divorce. Pure, inexperienced Shu, portrayed so convincingly by Sakaguchi Kentaro, thought he and Akiha were becoming friends and his growing feelings for Akiha were platonic. However, Akiha knew she had fallen for Shu and tried to stay in the fake marriage, even after her mother gave her the money to pay off her debt. Friends & family tried to steer Shu into realizing his true feelings for Akiha, but his decision to divorce her, in order to reset their relationship, almost cost him Akiha. When he realized that his feelings for his sister-in-law wasn't true love, he had to show & clearly express to Akiha how much she meant to him. She was the one person who always accepted him for who he was and changed him into a better version of himself. Afraid to get hurt again, Akiha didn't want to live with regrets and realized they could define what a married couple meant for them. Because Shu was so clueless at times, I experienced real frustration in watching the show. At times, I cheered for love rival, Makihara Yuito(Takasugi Mahiro) to win Akiha's heart . However, I did like the close friendship & chemistry between Yuito & Aki. I wish there was a second season centered around Yuito because his character was fascinating. I was happy with the way the show wrapped up the lives of the main characters. Lastly, a few heart-racing scenes between Aki & Shu would've been great opportunities to show their chemistry. AKA: Only Just Married

    Japanese Drama - 2021, 10 episodes

spoilers: This was one of the best, feel good, romantic love stories I've ever seen. Like Hase Kei(Kiriyama Renn), I was captivated by Hirasawa Momoko(Konishi Sakurako). He recognized Momo was the precious gift he'd been waiting for all his life. He realized he'd been holding his breath through life for a long time. As the future head of his parents' hotel empire, he found his soul mate in hotel clerk, Momoko. Momo was the first person who wanted to protect him, the "Phantom." Momo's allure came from her vulnerability, compassion, & beautiful soul, which came shining through whenever she smiled. From their first heart-stopping kiss, on the hotel rooftop, and all their love scenes, I was mesmerized by their perfect chemistry. They were beautifully orchestrated, never raunchy or explicit, & often left me breathless. When Kei's stepmother secretly tested Momo's perfect fit as Kei's partner, I loved how Momo surprised & far exceeded anyone's expectations. It was a testament to Momo's uniqueness & quiet strength and her courage to live life under her own terms. It included her answer to Kei's marriage proposal, which turned into, "...a promise to promise." For Momo, she wanted to live in the happiness that surrounded her & Kei. It was beautifully expressed through her thoughts, "From now on, I hope to be your home forever."

  • Please Feel at Ease Mr. Ling

    220. Please Feel at Ease Mr. Ling

    Chinese Drama - 2021, 24 episodes

    9.5

spoilers: Gu An Xin(Zhao Lu Si) & Ling Yue(Liu Te) first met as victims of child abduction. Years later, An Xin literally ran into Ling Yue with her motorcycle, after Yue survived an attempt on his life. She took him in when he pretended to have amnesia, in order to find out who was after him. With An Xin's "no problem" attitude, she became the one person who could ease the chaos and storms that came Yue's way as the middle son of the powerful Ling Group. They were total opposites who fell in love and, together, had to overcome the consequences of family secrets, betrayal, jealousy, greed & cruelty. The also survived the attempts on their lives. I loved the chemistry between An Xin & Yue and their romantic scenes were heart-racing moments. You You(Zong Yuan Yuan), Xiao Yi Shan(Liu Yin Jun), & Zhao Lei(Liu Zhe Hui) provided many LOL moments and were often scene stealers. Moreover, I loved the family themes of loyalty, love and forgiveness. Although I guessed, early on, who the bad seed was, I didn't expect Ling Fang's family beliefs & loyalty. The proposal that ended up at the amusement park, in front of a lit up carousel, was amazing, including the live music, fireworks, & close friends & family. Lastly, Xiao Ji & Xiao Li were the cutest kids I've ever seen. I loved the ending in the living room and the way the stories of the other characters were wrapped up. However, there should be a second season around Gu An Sheng(Zhou Jun Wei) finding love.

  • Business Proposal

    221. Business Proposal

    Korean Drama - 2022, 12 episodes

    9.5

spoilers: I laughed throughout this beautiful romantic comedy. The cast had perfect comedic timing, and the funniest character was Kye Bin, especially the beer bomb scene. The chemistry between the 2 couples, Ha Ri(Kim Se Jeong)/Tae Moo(Ahn Hyo Seop) and Young Seo(Seol In Ah)/Sung Hoon(Kim Min Gue) was sizzling hot. Tae Moo & Ha Ri's love story began when Ha Ri went on a blind date in Young Seo's place. Ha Ri did everything she could to sabotage the date, but Tae Moo was instantly drawn to her. Tae Moo was pressured by his grandfather to go on back-to-back blind dates and get married. When Tae Moo found out about the blind date switch, he forced Ha Ri (who used a fake name, Geum Hui) into a "fake girlfriend" contract, with pay, to appease his grandfather. The idea that Chmn. Kang didn't investigate Tae Moo's new girlfriend is unrealistic. Eventually, lies have consequences, especially when Tae Moo & his grandfather discovered Guen Hui's real identity & that Ha Ri worked for them. For Tae Moo, Ha Ri was the only woman he wanted to marry and set out to win her heart. It was complicated by her 7-year crush on Min Woo and their social standings. Chmn. Kang's sudden health-related treatments in America led to Tae Moo & Ha Ri's year-long, long-distance relationship. While I loved the beautiful setting during Tae Moo's proposal, I expected a wedding. Also, some of the storylines were open-ended. Is there a Season 2?

  • Falling into Your Smile

    222. Falling into Your Smile

    Chinese Drama - 2021, 31 episodes

    9.5

spoilers: You don't have to be a gamer to like this love story between Tong Yao(Cheng Xiao) & Lu Si Cheng(Xu Kai). Yao, whose ex was a professional e-sport gamer, vowed never to date another one. Cheng's ideal woman could beat him in a game and vowed to marry the woman who stands next to him on a championship stage. Yao joined ZGDX OPL team as the first female in a male-dominated professional e-sport. Cheng's goal was to win the National Championship. The drama shows the hard work and training that goes into becoming a National Championship team. As Team Captain, Cheng saw Yao as a "gem" with great potential. Team members experience the pressures of becoming public figures/idols with a passionate fan base and constant public scrutiny and judgement. Yao had to prove she belonged in professional e-sports. A physical altercation and rumors almost derailed her career goals. She had to convince Cheng she deserved to be on the team. When Cheng made their relationship public, they had to overcome negative public opinion and prove it didn't effect their professional abilities. Along the way, Yao gained respect by her teammates, players, & the public. The full screen versions of the digital games gave the viewer the opportunity to experience the often heart-stopping matches and their dramatic conclusions, especially the National Championship match. I couldn't look away. The show had many LOL moments, including very funny dialogue. Also, I loved the BFF relationship between Yao & Jin Yang(Rachel Wang), as well as, the family-like relationship of team ZGDX. The believable chemistry between Yao & Cheng made for some touching & cry-worthy scenes, especially when Cheng had doubts as Captain. After the wedding and possible engagement at the end, is there a second season?

  • SKY Castle

    223. SKY Castle

    Korean Drama - 2018, 20 episodes

    10

spoilers: The incredible cast brought to life the characters of Sky Castle's wealthy tenants. In episode 2, I had to pause for a day because Young Jae's "hell" resonated with my own experiences when my parents tried to live their unfulfilled dreams through all their children. At the center of the drama are the wives & families of multi-generational doctors/professors at Junam Med. Their children were pressured/expected to enter prestigious universities and carry on the family legacy, by any means possible. By invitation, parents fought for coordinators whose job was to guarantee their child's admission to top universities. Kim Yoo Young guaranteed 100% success with her team of teachers. Parents gave her absolute power, but she had a hidden agenda, connected to a secret past. She abused her power, through illegal & questionable methods, which led to tragic consequences for some of the families who hired her. It included suicide, revenge & total breakdown of family relationships, fueled by greed. Her power remained unchallenged until new tenant, Lee Soo Im, uncovered the tragedy of the family who used to live in her home. The price for greed and ambition had unforeseen consequences. Soo Im's son, Woo Joo, became a victim of Kim's power when a top student was murdered. Chani's portrayal of Woo Joo was touching & note-worthy. Noh Seung Hye was my fav character, & Ep.5 was memorable when she tore down the soundproof walls, the light shone on her face, enlightenment captured in her smile. The director often set the mood of the scenes with a close up of body parts or faces and the use of background music, like Bolero. Kim Byung Chul's(Cha Min Hyuk)many facial expressions often expressed the exaggerated mood of a scene (and made for many LOL moments). Lesson learned: what do you see reflected in the mirror? Happiness comes from living your truth.

  • Brilliant Class 8

    224. Brilliant Class 8

    Chinese Drama - 2022, 40 episodes

    9.5

spoilers: This Rom-Com was led by Cheney Chen(as Xiang Dong Nan) & Karlina Zhang (Su Qi) & supported by an amazing cast, especially the young cast of Class 8. Cheney Chen's comedic timing made for so many LOL moments, but showed his versatility as an actor, during touching/moving scenes throughout the show. After a plagiarism scandal, popular superstar, Xiang, thought he was doing a reality show, as a high school music teacher, to boost his image. It was a part of his cousin/agent, Lin Sheng's(Wang Rui Chang) idea to also help Xiang find inspiration to write songs again. For years, Xiang suffered an undiagnosed anxiety disorder that was linked to his mom's death and left him unable to write songs. Dong Nan discovered he was bound by a contract as a teacher. He and Su Qi, whose personalities often clashed, taught Class 8 together. They became roommates in a shared apartment, along with another colleague. Xiang had an unconventional way of teaching & Su focused on test scores. They learned to adjust and became more like each other, to the benefit of their students. Xiang finally found inspiration to write songs again as his relationship with Qi turned into love. Qi was never Xiang's fan, but she fell in love with the real Dong Nan. They inspired and were inspired by each other & their students. The journey of self discovery for the Class 8 students was uniquely told in their individual stories and allowed me to feel like I was living their journeys and I was truly moved. They learned to find their true calling with the help of Xiang & Su. The ending was dramatically memorable with the introduction of Class 8's second year music teacher. Note: the English subtitles didn't match the English songs' lyrics.

  • Forecasting Love and Weather

    225. Forecasting Love and Weather

    Korean Drama - 2022, 16 episodes

    9.5

Spoilers: First, I knew I was going to like this show because I'm a fan of Song Kang & Yoon Park. I loved the incredible cast! In this drama, weather metaphors were used to describe the ups & downs of relationships. Like the weather, relationships go through storms, followed by happier, sunnier days. The beginning scene was a foreshadowing of the rainy days to come in the life of Jin Ha Kyung(Park Min Young). A shaman told her, "You can't avoid fated relationships by being cautious." Regarding her upcoming wedding with Han Ki Joon(Yoon Park), "It's going to rain." Jin Ha Kyung was a newly promoted Director at Innovative Weather Services, and engaged to her colleague, Ki Joon. She ignored the signals of a coming storm until she caught her fiance with reporter, Chae Yoo Jin (Yura). Ha Kyung vowed never to date another colleague when Lee Shi Woo (Song Kang) joined her team at the weather headquarters. It rained on the day they first met, symbolic of a new beginning. Their traumatic childhood traumas, involving the suicide of one parent and the death of another, greatly influenced their views on life and relationships. To complicate matters, Lee's ex married Jin's ex and both were colleagues. After a drunken night together, they had what they thought was a one-night-stand. Jin chose their "thorny path" and entered into their "secret" relationship, which their colleagues found out about anyway. Lee's relationship with his father led to self-blame and a belief in not sharing his family burdens, vowing never to get married. Ha Kyung tried to accept Shi Woo's aversion to marriage. They learned to accept their imperfections and helped each other through the pains of their traumatic pasts. A short-lived break up eventually led to a reconciliation during the first snow. "All storms are bound to recede." In love, together, side by side, they faced what was to come.

  • Twenty-Five Twenty-One

    226. Twenty-Five Twenty-One

    Korean Drama - 2022, 16 episodes

    9.5

spoilers: I cried towards the end with the realization that I wasn't going to get the ending I hoped for. I got emotionally invested, for a short time, in the amazing stories that surrounded the main characters. This beautiful story was about youth and the experiences and memories that shaped the characters into the adults they became. They forged lifetime friendships in the process. For Na Hee Do(Kim Tae Ri) & Baek Yi Jin(Nam Joo Hyuk), the story of their first love unfolded through Hee Do's diary, which her daughter uncovered. Na Hee Do was a child fencing prodigy whose life changed with the death of her father. She grew up alone & lonely with a mostly absent mother. In high school, she met & fell for college dropout, Baek Yi Jin. His dream was to reunite his family after his dad's bankruptcy led to a reversal of fortune. On his rise to be the best reporter in his field, when his professional & personal life clashed, he paid a heavy price at the expense of his friendships & love life. Na Hee Do's dream to be her idol, Go Yu Rim's(Bona) fencing rival came true when they attended the same high school. Their bitter rivalry turned into a close friendship that was tested as they became national stars. "That summer was ours to keep" was like a consolation to viewers like myself who wanted a different ending. Lastly, the rainbow scene, when Yi Jin confessed, was one of the most beautiful scenes ever! Also, one of the saddest was the bus stop goodbye between Hee Do & Yi Jin before he went abroad.

  • Assistant of Superstar

    227. Assistant of Superstar

    Chinese Drama - 2022, 24 episodes

    9.0

spoilers: I laughed a lot throughout this Rom Com, but there were also some truly touching moments. The funniest scene was You Xi's mom's display of his school awards like "Best Posture". The most touching was You Xi as a clown during a low point in his career. There was convincing (& often charming)chemistry between the two couples, You Xi(Kele Sun)/Yuchi Yao Yao(Hanna) and Qi Chao(Chen Peng Wan Li)/Pan Duo(LQ Wang). Due to unexpected circumstances, Yao Yao moved in with You Xi, a popular superstar, as his temporary tutor/assistant to help him prepare for his latest project. She's an aspiring teacher with "hemophobia", a fear of large crowds. They fell in love with each other, but had to overcome rumors, scandals, and public backlash, most of which were plots against You Xi by his rival, Song Qie Ge(Xu He Ni). Xu He Ni's portrayal of a vindictive, self-absorbed rival was very believable. When You Xi stood to lose his status as a star, with Yao Yao's unconditional support, & support from friends & family, he worked hard to become a better actor and make a comeback. In the end, his sincerity & genuineness led him on a new journey &, in the process, became a better version of himself. He became a star that shined brilliantly. Moreover, two scene-stealers, LQ Wang & Kong Xiao Ming(as Zhu Da Zhuang), had great comedic timing as well as moving moments. Lastly, I look forward to seeing Chen Peng Wan Li in more "leading man" roles. I loved the cast!

    Chinese Drama - 2021, 45 episodes

spoilers: Mo Fei(Xu Lu) ranks as one of my favorite characters in a romantic show. This was a story of fated love and was like a fairytale with a twist. Mo Fei's "Prince", Tang Ming Xuan(Zhang Han: I'm a big fan), the domineering GM of Mingyuan Fashion Group, rejected attempts at a fix marriage. When he got together with Mo Fei, he knew she was the one he wanted to eventually marry. Mo Fei, an aspiring, ambitious fashion designer, had clear plans for her future and acceptance into a prestigious French couture school helped propel her into "visionary" status. Passionate and confident, she refused to be intimidated by anyone. They included Xue Ling, who was in love with Ming Xuan, and Ming Xuan's mother, who attempted 2 arranged marriages for her son. I loved that Ming Xuan believed in Mo Fei's dreams and wanted her to become as outstanding as himself. They had to overcome a long-distance relationship & the challenges of working together in the competitive world of fashion. Also, they learned to trust each other, especially when fashion designer, Fang Xiao Yu(Hong Yao) attempted to win Mo Fei's heart. Admittedly, the introduction of handsome Xiao Yu left me breathless. Also, the entire supporting cast was phenomenal. I loved the relationship between Mo Fan(Jerron Wu) & Lu Zhu(Zhang Tian). Moreover, the chemistry between Mo Fei & Ming Xuan was off the charts. They had some of the hottest kissing scenes in a drama. Two examples were the after-work hours on the design table & the night before Mo Fei's return to school scenes were sizzling hot! Finally, the wedding scene was one of the most beautiful in a drama...Ever! It catapulted this show into a perfect 10 rating for me! The fashion was to-die-for!!!

  • Hello Mr. Gu

    229. Hello Mr. Gu

    Chinese Drama - 2021, 30 episodes

    10

spoilers: I love Rom-Com dramas like this because it was entertaining and full of romance. The cast of characters were well-cast. The chemistry between Gu Nan Zhou (Chen Jing Ke) & Zhou Jian Qing (Yan Zihi Chao) was beautifully believable. I loved them together! They were childhood friends whose fathers went into business, which became the successful Gu Group. However, Jian Qing's family experienced a reversal of fortune, after her father branched out on his own. She and her brother were left with huge debts after their parents passed away. Nan Zhou tried to fulfill his father's last wish to marry Jian Qing, because her father was instrumental in what Gu Group became. Because of overwhelming debt, Jian Qing entered a marriage agreement where Nan Zhou became her fake fiance and her creditor. Nan Zhou soon fell for Jian Qing, a promising animator, a dream Nan Zhou abandoned when his father wanted him to go into business. Jian Qing helped him stay true to himself and became like the sun for him, "optimistic and perseverant." Suffering from anxiety disorder, she also helped him overcome his guilt over his brother's death. However, they had to face career and personal obstacles and misunderstandings led to a break up. Both doubted they were good enough for each other and had to learn to believe in themselves and each other. A little help from Gu's mom helped them work through their misunderstandings and eventually a way back to each other. I thought the final proposal was one of the most beautiful scenes in a drama and everything I didn't know I wanted to see, after all the crazy failed proposals. The wedding photos in the beginning took my breath away...Wow!

    230. Intense Love

    Chinese Drama - 2020, 24 episodes

    9.0

spoilers: I enjoyed this romantic love story between two characters whose mothers arranged a child betrothal. Zhou Shi Wen (Ding Yu Xi) & Su Jin Bei(Zhang Yu Xi) were complete opposites. Shi Wen, a 28-year-old chief physician/professor, from a wealthy family, & Su Jin Bei, a 26-year-old superstar actress, were both too busy to attend their arranged engagement party. Instead, they met for the first time as adults when Jin Bei needed surgery after a car accident. There was instant chemistry between them and a growing attraction that played out throughout the show, which eventually turned to love. I loved the way Jin Bei constantly teased Shi Wen with her flirting and the often mesmerizing & heart-racing results. Jin Bei broke through Shi Wen's cold facade with her generous heart and confidence. Shi Wen's good-hearted, thoughtful & protective ways won Jin Bei's heart. Their relationship was tested by the many rumors & it's consequences that came with fame. They also had to break down the public perceptions & prejudices of a star in a serious relationship, which sometimes puts an end to a star's career. I wanted to give the show a higher rating, but the use of flashbacks became redundant and felt like fillers in order to have enough content for 24 episodes. I felt the touching sincerity of the proposal in the snow. Unexpectedly, even though it was to fit the storyline of precious time, the run to the altar wasn't the wedding I wanted to see. I wanted a beautiful wedding between two beautiful characters that I enjoyed watching throughout the show. Also, I loved the cast. I am looking forward to more from Shi Ming Ze & Lin Xin Yi in leading roles. They should be cast in a love story together because their chemistry was amazing and both show incredible star power.

    Chinese Drama - 2022, 24 episodes

spoilers: Fashion designer/artist, Zhao Mo Yuan(Yang Shi Ze) planned a comeback in China, after past false accusations of plagiarism abroad. He ran into Ding Yi Ke(Tang Yi Xin) at a restaurant crying loudly, after her boyfriend broke up with her. Yike ended up winning a reality show and a wheel decided her destiny. She became a fashion buyer candidate at May, which was led by new Director, Leo. The world of fashion was foreign to Yi Ke, but Director Leo saw passion in Yi Ke and a reflection of her younger self years ago. After a rocky beginning, Yi Ke looked to her new neighbor & store owner, Mo Yuan, to mentor her. In return, she became his new muse. They formed a personal and professional relationship & helped each other accomplish their goals. Their chemistry was blaringly obvious during the phone booth first kisses, one of the steamiest scenes ever! WOW! However, they had to overcome professional sabotage and a short break up. I was disappointed in the open-ended ending. Yi Ke got promoted and was faced with the dilemma of coming to Mo Yuan's assistance because of his father's health crisis. Is there a second season? The viewers, like myself, deserve more. Also, parts of the storyline were lost in translation because the phone texts throughout the show didn't have English subtitles. Moreover, the strong female roles, especially Director Leo's, were very inspiring. I loved Leo's strong, vulnerable character and her chemistry with Du Xiu Qi. Lastly, the behind-the-scenes look into the life of fashion buyers made the story fascinating for someone like myself who loves fashion.

    Chinese Drama - 2022, 24 episodes

spoilers: First, I know couples who met through online sites and those who met naturally, and most have loving relationships. Zhao Jiang Yue(Gina Jin), the youngest GM in Ling Tech's history, was charged with taking under her wing Chairman Jin's son, Gu Jia Xin(Wang Zi Yi). They clashed at first, but their work & personal relationship evolved and changed. Zhao was a workaholic who didn't have time for or believed in love. The company's new App, Love Note, was supposed to match up singles using data. She went on air to announce she planned to use the App to find a boyfriend in 3 months. When her old boss/crush came back from abroad, Jia Xin volunteered to be her "relationship mentor." He regretted his decision when he started to fall for her. They fell in love, despite their 8-year age difference, but had to overcome opposition to their relationship, love rivals, and office rumors. Their chemistry was undeniable and, at times, sizzling hot. I loved the helicopter kissing scene, complete with dreamy Jia Xin in a pilot uniform. In fact, every scene Wang Zi Yi(Jia Xin) was in was dreamy and I couldn't look away. For the fans, like myself, he had many shirtless scenes and a great training workout sequence. Furthermore, Jiang Yue & Jia Xin learned that "sincerity" was "the only path towards love." Accepting each other's "true self" gave them the passion and freedom to pursue their dreams and become the best versions of themselves. Lastly, I loved the cast and the other couples and their love stories. This was truly a romantic love story that had everything I like to see, especially the romantic confessions and proposals. Of course, the last proposal was unique and beautiful and fit Jiang Yue's character perfectly. I applaud strong, female characters who aren't afraid to do things their way.

    Chinese Drama - 2022, 24 episodes

    9.5

spoilers: First, I looked forward to this love story between Su Yan Xi (Lin Xin Yi) & Gu Xi Cheng(Luo Zheng) because I'm a fan of Lin & Luo. Their chemistry made me breathless at times & both showed they truly deserve leading roles. Childhood friends for a short time, Xixi & Xi Cheng met again as adults. Due to a case of mistaken identity, Xi Cheng & Xixi entered into a contract relationship to appease Xi Cheng's grandma. Xi Cheng wasn't aware Xixi was forced to take her twin's place to save their sick mother. As a result of life-changing traumatic pasts & choices made by the show's characters, there were consequences. For Xixi & Xi Cheng, their fake relationship grew into real love. The show included beautiful, romantic scenes & some very hot kissing scenes. The kiss on the kitchen counter was hot! My favorite "you go girl" scene was (Ep. 11) when Xixi claimed her man with the company "Flaming red lipstick". I loved her fighting spirit and growth in the show. Uncovered secrets & lies led to a painful break up and geographical separation. The beach proposal included flaming arrows and a well-lit proposal. It was, for me, a "finally, but what took you so long?" moment. What was the reason for the bridge scene in Xixi's hometown when she and Xi Cheng crossed paths like two ships in the night? I think the show could've wrapped up in 20 episodes. However, I loved the cast. Grandma Gu & Si Tu were two of my favorite characters. This was my kind of romance drama, especially with Luo Zheng as the leading man. The bonus was the traditional costumes worn in the wedding photos.

spoilers: Nanao is the most beautiful woman I've ever seen. She was perfectly cast as Horai Reiko( the fiercest female role ever!), Miyavi's Editor-in-Chief. Dressed in exquisite couture & high heels throughout, with a "devil's smile" to boot, every time she walked in dramatic slo-mo, it was always a "focus on me alone" scene. I couldn't look away. She looked like a goddess, but she was human, with all her imperfections, insecurities & need for validation from an estranged father. She went abroad to pursue her passion for a career in fashion and came back to launch a new fashion magazine in Japan. She had almost impossible global market goals. Reiko showed her new assistant, Suzuki Nami(Kamishiraishi Mone) that "Fashion offers a snapshot of a dream." Nami thought she wanted a 9-5 job and lead an average life when she met Reiko's brother, Junnosuke (Tamamori Yuta). (BTW, I just finished watching 3 seasons of "Ride On Time"' which included Yuta of Kis-My-Ft.2) Jun was a photographer who liked "to capture the traces of human activity." It was in conflict with the expectations of leaving what he loved to do when he had to fulfill his promise to succeed the family business. They were both trying to find themselves when they found each other and fell in love. Their star gazing scene on the rooftop was riveting and heartbreaking. It was a tear-jerking scene in a show with many LOL moments. They both had to pursue different paths and find their true passions to become the best versions of themselves. A 3-year separation was necessary for the growth of both characters in order to find their way back to each other and live their authentic selves with no regrets. The theme of the pursuit of dreams and happiness was uplifting and inspiring and played out by an incredible cast. My own love for fashion made this show even more perfect. I was totally engrossed and couldn't wait to finish the show. I wanted more...

spoilers: Activist & law student, Han Jae Hyun, believed in standing up for the losing side and participated in many protests in 1990's S. Korea. His path crossed with Yoon Ji Soo during his first protest. They met again when Ji Soo was a University piano student. Ji Soo's beliefs & principles were shaped by Jae Hyun's beliefs in social justice. Her persistence in pursuing Jae Hyun paid off when he finally agreed to date her. "I'm going to live in a world where you live" resonated convincingly. Their love story would stand the test of time no matter what their future held. Unfortunately, Ji Soo's controlling, Chief Prosecutor, father did everything he could to successfully break them up. His actions led to far-reaching and fatal consequences over two decades. In their 40's, they met again. Their interrupted love story was reignited despite the many obstacles they faced. Ji Soo was a divorced, single mother barely making ends meet, suffering from self-blame & guilt after a family tragedy. Jae Hyun married into a corrupt chaebol family.    His wife fought dirty to save a marriage that ended years before Ji Soo & Jae Hyun reunited. Ji Soo reminded Jae Hyun that he was still the kind-hearted person who used to fight for the innocent & powerless. His plan to avenge his father's death became his fight to restructure his in-law's company by exposing corruption and giving the power back to the employees. The transition between past & present versions of Ji Soo & Jae Hyun was smooth & played out beautifully by Yoo Ji Tae, Lee Bo Young, Park Jin Young & Jeon So Nee. The unique ending transitioned between the past & present versions of the main characters. I cried during their painful, sometimes heartbreaking journey. Young Min's bullying journey was painful to watch and played by talented Ko Woo Rim. I loved this show!

spoilers: First, three of my favorite male actors Ji Chang Wook(Ri Eul/Ryu Min Hyuk), Hwang In Youp(Na Il Deung) & Nam Da Reum(teen Ri Eul/Ryu Min Hyuk) were in this show so I was predisposed to liking the show before I watched it. I wasn't disappointed. With Ji Chang Wook's musical background, he was perfectly cast in this part drama/musical show. He played a magician whose life intersected with Yoon Ah Yi(Choi Sung Eun) during the two most critical times in her life. First as an abandoned child and later a high school student barely making ends meet for herself & her younger sister, Yoo Yi. Their duet about childhood dreams & longing was heartbreaking and left me in tears. Their parents ran away to escape creditors, leaving Ah Yi to work p/t jobs to survive. Despite being poor, she was a top student. She made friends with desk mate & rich top fellow student, Na Il Deung. Both of their lives changed dramatically when they met a mysterious magician who lived in an abandoned theme park. There were rumors the magician was crazy, but they saw someone who was free from social norms and beliefs and lived happily in his world of magic. Both were at a cross roads in their lives. Ah Yi learned she couldn't rely on anyone but herself, but despite hardships, the magician made her believe in the herself & the world again. The magician showed Il Deung that he was living his life for his parents and not himself. He had to follow his heart and his own path. The magician's brilliant but dark past was exposed when he was implicated in local crimes and a murder. Ah Yi realized he only wanted to be heard, living his life like an "invisible person." She believed in him when no one else did and she gave him validation. "Magic doesn't create miracles but allows you to discover them." Lastly, I loved the musical number at the end, which included the entire cast, led by super talented Ji Chang Wook.

spoilers: This was the saddest love story I've ever seen so far. I was deeply moved by the unforgettable, tragic love story between K(Fandy Fan) & Cream(Gingle Wang), beautifully told through the discovery of K's diary. When producer, Bo Han (Edison Wang) & assistant, An Yi Qi(Ivy Shao), set out on a mission to find the copyrights to a song, their lives changed forever. Through tragedy and loss, the lives of K & Cream were forever intertwined when revenge turned to compassion & love. A story of deep love unfolded, but K's own cancer diagnosis led to his quest to find someone to take care of Cream. In Ep.5, I cried when K broke down during a photo shoot, expressing his pain & fears when faced with his mortality. The bridal shop & wedding vows practice scenes were heartbreaking reminders of their reality. A parallel story of loss and love between An, Bo Han & Ke Le brought out more water works. Bai Run Yin's portrayal of Ke Le touched me deeply. I felt the unbreakable bond between mother & son when Ke Le let go of his mother's hand before his heart surgery. The last episode showed how K & Cream spent their last moments together. Their deep, enduring, eternal love became a message of hope to, "embrace all happiness & sadness that life brings." Finally, "I'll find you in my next life" were Cream's words to K, a promise that their love story has no ending.

Also, some of the show was lost in translation because of the English subtitles, & sometimes lack of subtitles in the middle of a scene. I was looking for an entertaining love story & I found one. The drama was injected with humor throughout via Na Mu(Nita Xia)& "Horse"/Ma Deng Deng(Liu Jian Yu). After suffering heartbreak in High School, Lin Yuan(Zhang Zi Feng) wasn't ready to let go of her 1st love, Zhou Yang(Sun Zhi Xiang). He was her much older math teacher(& her brother's friend), making a romantic relationship taboo. As a University Freshman, it was like deja vu when she became attracted to fellow student/math genius, Xiao En, AKA Sean(Xiong Zi Qi). They later realized their lives intersected on a trip to Thailand, where a misunderstanding led them to the police station. When Sean started losing memories and pockets of time, related to Lin Yuan, he questioned his sanity. It led him to a psychologist who used memory transplant surgery(& with the use of a camera) after Sean suffered the lost of his emotional central nervous system, after an accident. It turned out that Zhou Yang donated his emotional memories to forget Lin Yuan. The 2 subconscious parts of Sean fell for Lin Yuan. She had to make peace with her past before she could move forward with her feelings for Sean. It meant saying goodbye to Zhou Yang's implanted memories forever. She proved how important Sean was to her when she stood up for him during a plagiarism scandal. I loved how the love stories were wrapped up, including between Na Mu & Ma and Yi Lun & his 9-year senior, Xiao Ti.

poilers: Because I'm a fan of He De Rui, from Youth With You 3, I looked forward to this show. He demonstrated he's leading man material & look forward to more from him. I loved him as author, Fang Wen Yu and his chemistry with Huang Si Rui(as He Jia Jia), his love interest. I was surprised how much I ended up loving the touching storylines of the characters, a testament to a great cast. He Jia Jia's journey of self discovery and personal growth, after the end of a 2-year-relationship and loss of a job, resonated with me. Her decision not to jump blindly into a relationship with Fang Wen Yu was a lesson in learning to love herself before giving her heart to someone else. It showed her maturity and freedom of expression and her acceptance that she had to be herself. She also demonstrated her growth when she reversed roles with her mother. They discovered how much they loved each other and the growth of their own relationship. Moreover, the villagers, including Lin Qing Hui's (Cai Heng) heartbreaking journey, made me care about the characters and sometimes left me in tears. The show is about love of self, family & friends and respect for the past when faced with the future and inevitable changes. As for the future of Fang Wen Yu & He Jai Jai as a couple, the "sunset" was perhaps symbolic that they eventually found their happiness together. He found real love with Jia Jia and he helped her see her self-worth. Was it too much to ask for at least one kiss between two beautiful characters? I loved this beautiful story.

    Chinese Drama - 2022, 36 episodes

Spoilers: This dramatic period piece, through visuals, costumes & an amazing cast, transported me to a magical world of immortals of the Three Realms. It was a beautiful love story between star-crossed lovers, Fairy Orchid(Esther Yu) & Dong Fang Qing Cang(Dylan Wang). They literally had to go through different types of hell for each other and eventually changed their destinies through the power of love. Dylan Wang(Meteor Garden) is the reason why I started watching Asian dramas. I'm also a fan of Esther Yu as an actress & singer. The lovers met 30,000 years after the Great War between the Moon Tribe and Fairies. Orchid accidentally let Moon Supreme, DFQC out of Haotian Tower prison, sealed by the Fairies, and became bound together by a heart curse. He was a powerful immortal whose "Hellfire" was equal to the power of tens of thousands of elite warriors. The reincarnation of the God of War, Chidi, and the Goddess Xi yun of Xishan, played a major role in the fight between good & evil and the war between the Fairies & Moon Tribe. The Evil God Tai Sui became the biggest threat to the Three Realms. The pure love between Orchid & DFQC fueled the "glazed fire", harnessed by great love & compassion, that was a powerful weapon against Tai Sui. The survival of the Three Realms rested in the hands of a united Moon Tribe/Fairies & the powerful unity of Orchid & DFQC. In the end, the once heartless Moon Supreme gave up everything for his little Orchid, but were destined to love each other forever. This is a rare show that used all 36 episodes to tell a story that I couldn't wait to get to the end. I loved every moment of the series!!!!

spoilers: I gave this a perfect score because the wedding made it perfect for me. This heartwarming love story between Lin Zhixiao (Yang Zi) & Gu Wei(Xiao Zhan) was also about family and friendship. They met briefly 3 years ago, in the countryside. Their paths crossed again when Dr. Gu Wei became the surgeon for Zhixiao's father, who was diagnosed with cancer. As a music major at University, cellist Zhixiao experienced set backs, including a hand injury, but her persistence and hard work eventually paid off. Misunderstood at first, Zhixiao saw Gu Wei as a kind-hearted, outstanding doctor. They had to overcome their age gap and their parents' expectations, as well as, Gu Wei's past and present threats to his reputation as a doctor. Zhixiao became a light during Gu Wei's darkest times and her belief in him never wavered. Together, they fought to prove to themselves and their families that they were perfect for each other. I was deeply moved by the unfolding of Zhixiao's relationship with her father and the deep love they shared for each other. I also loved Zhixiao's relationship with her BFF, San San. In between the serious scenes were memorable LOL moments, like the countryside trip. Lastly, the letters Teacher Lin wrote to his daughter were heartbreakingly beautiful. I loved the way the love story was wrapped up and the fate of some of the other characters' love stories.

spoilers: Park Eun Bin beautifully portrayed the character, Woo Young Woo, the first S. Korean autistic attorney. I was mesmerized & moved by her performance. Her character landed a job as rookie attorney at Hanbada Law Firm. Later, it is revealed that her father's connections to the company's CEO was the reason she landed the job. Young Woo's photographic memory helped propel her to become a top law student and an "extraordinary" attorney. She had to overcome the prejudices that came with being autistic, but the ups and downs she experienced helped her grow both professionally & personally. She even experienced first love with company litigator, Lee Joon Ho(Kang Tae Oh). Their first kiss was both funny and sweet. There were many LOL moments whenever Young Woo took things literally. The diarrhea scene with Soo Yeon was hilarious! Moreover, the shocking, heartbreaking truth that surrounded Woo's birth showcased her father's sacrifices, giving up his own law dreams, and her biological mother's ambitions, when she chose to abandon Young Woo. Additionally, I loved Woo's BFF, her first friend, Dong Geurami. Lastly, I loved the incredible cast, including Joo Jong Hyuk, Ha Yoon Kyung & Kang Ki Young. Their chemistry added realism to the drama. Woo was like a mirror to their souls, a light that showed what being extraordinary looked like. I can't wait for Season 2!!

Spoilers: First, I’m a fan of Joy of Red Velvet, so I absolutely had to watch this drama. This show is a sweet love story, set in the countryside, and full of beautiful people. Years ago, Han Ji Yul (Choo Young Woo) & Ahn Ja Young (Joy) were “secret” childhood friends after the tragic death of Ji Yul’s parents. He promised to come back when he moved away. In their late 20’s, Ji Yul, a Seoul veterinarian, suddenly came back to the countryside to temporarily take over his grandfather’s vet hospital while his grandparents went on a much-deserved vacation. Ji Yul blocked out his parents’ death until Ja Young’s car accident brought everything back. His memories included his “secret” friend, Ja Young. Ja Young was one of the few people whom Ji Yul could open up to. His pending return to Seoul and his growing feelings for Ja Young meant he had to do some soul searching. Moreover, Ja Young’s friend, Sang Hyun, confessed to her and Ji Yul’s ex, Choi Min, wanted him back. In ep. 10, Ja Young’s rejection of her best friend was the sweetest scene & showed the special love they shared. Lastly, the different characters of Huidong and the neighboring villages added to the show’s charm. I was transported to a beautiful world in the countryside where I could connect with nature and the wonderful people who lived there.

Spoilers: I was obsessed with this drama from the first dramatic scene until the very end. It felt like a free falling amusement park ride that takes your breath away. Every episode sucked me in and grabbed my attention. The cliff hangers kept me wanting more. This love story between Do Hyun Soo(Lee Joon Gi) & Cha Ji Won (Moon Chae Won) was uniquely played out as part psychological thriller and heartwarming/heart wrenching family drama. At a young age, Do Hyun Soo lost his mother. Unfortunately, his personal trauma was never addressed and was diagnosed with Antisocial Personality Disorder. In addition, his psychopath, serial killer father taught him that love is an illusion and trust is a weakness. Unable to turn Hyun Soo into his image, his father molded a young man into a killer. Hyun Soo’s father eventually met his end, but his accomplice remained at large. Hyun Soo & his sister were left in the care of a village head who performed abusive village exorcisms on supposedly evil-possessed Hyun Soo, for money. Hyun Soo became a fugitive when he & his sister fled and separated to escape murder charges. Fate literally put Do Hyun Soo in a collision course with his destiny, that led to his new identity as Baek Hee Sung. For 14 years, he lived a seemingly idyllic, loving family life with his wife and daughter. I loved scene-stealing Jung Seo Yeon as Eun Ha. Her scenes pulled at the heartstrings. It was all threatened when Hyun Soo’s secrets were exposed with the reinvestigation of his father’s serial murders and the race to find his accomplice. He teamed up with police when it led him into the world of human trafficking, putting his life on the line. The discovery of his real identity forced him to find the accomplice and clear his name. He almost lost everything. In the end, the lesson was that your true self is the key to happiness and love is built on truth and faith. A standing ovation to the entire cast! They were phenomenal!

  • Goblin

    245. Goblin

    Korean Drama - 2016, 16 episodes

    10

Spoilers: First, the main cast was breathtakingly beautiful, including BTOB’s Yook Sung Jae(as Yoo Deok Hwa). Scenes included handsome Gong Yoo & Lee Dong Wook(as Grim Reaper) walking in slo-mo like models. This fantasy drama love story between Kim Shin(Gong Yoo) & Ji Eun Tak(Kim Go Eun) was unforgettable and I laughed & cried my way through it. The story started 900 years ago when young King Wang Yeo, controlled & manipulated by his advisor, accused his loyal general, Kim Shin of treason. The King ordered everyone connected to Shin killed, including the Queen, Shin’s sister. Shin was killed by his own sword. With the blood of thousands on his sword, Shin became an immortal Goblin cursed with outliving everyone he loved and never forgetting any deaths. Only the Goblin’s Bride could remove the sword and return the Goblin to”nothingness & be at peace.” It took 900 years for Shin to find his bride, Ji Eun Tak, a student who could see ghosts. Before she was born, Goblin saved her dying mother, pregnant with Tak. Goblin’s decision to interfere with God’s plan had tragic consequences. Some of the characters in the present were tied to the events of 900 years ago & were fated to meet again, to play out unresolved regrets and fulfill their destinies. So many cry-worthy moments played out in the drama. In particular, the tea of oblivion scenes, including the Goblin and his bride’s heartbreaking goodbye. Moreover, the LOL moments were scattered throughout. I especially loved Kim Do Young’s BTS & EXO moments and the funny, “bromance” dialogue between the Goblin & Grim Reaper. Lastly, the ending was a testament to the power of love, faith & promises kept.

Spoilers: This was a Fantasy Rom.Com where the characters played out the author’s fictional story, with a twist, when the author became a main character within the story. Nan Xing’s (Shen Yue) hero character was based on her author idol, Lu Zi Chen(Luo Ming Jie). The “bad guy” in the story was Xiao Wu Di(Chen Zhe Yuan). Wu Di came to life when Nan Xing’s wish for an “unforgettable love” was granted by Fairy Zhen. This love story between Nan Xing and Wu Di fulfilled the fantasy that people might have, in real life, of falling for a character in a book. In the drama, Nan Xing ended up becoming her idol’s assistant, which opened the door for her future career as an outstanding author. Once her wish came true, Wu Di’s reason for existing disappeared. However, a childhood trauma left Nan Xing with unresolved matters of the heart and became the key to second chances. I loved the professional & personal growth of the main characters & the way fantasy & reality became one unforgettable love story as the lines between them merged. Although the last episode had too many flashbacks, I loved the wedding that I think the viewers deserved. Also, the audience was reminded that it was a story and reality was an even more beautiful love story. In the end, the real heroes of any story make us better versions of ourselves. For me, this was binge-worthy.

spoilers: This was an unexpected gem of a sweet, beautiful love story between food blogger, Jiang Si Han(Jin Zi Xuan), & dessert shop owner/chef, Cheng Mu(Zhou Jun Wei). They met a year before, when drunk Si Han mistook Mu for her crush, Han Mu Zhou. She confessed to Mu and unknowingly became his savior during one of his darkest days. A year later, she walked into Mu’s dessert shop, with no memory of ever meeting him. Later, she became a regular blogger at the store and found out she inspired his popular “Miss Moon” dessert. The desserts Mu continued to create were expressions of his emotions & described beautifully by Si Han in her blogs. The presence of Rui Rui, Si Han’s nephew, & Mu’s godson, brought them closer together when they lived together like a family. However, Mu suffered from mental illness that stemmed from a traumatic childhood. It prevented him from committing fully to Si Han. I loved the way the show addressed how mental illness affects the lives of others. For example, Mu’s sister, Yu, sacrificed her own happiness to give Mu a sense of security. Si Han & her parents showed Mu that he deserved to be loved and accepted. For the first time, he knew the warmth of a family and home. In his personal healing process, Mu shared his experiences publicly and he and Si Han helped others with mental illness through their “Healing Project.” I loved the beautiful cast and look forward to more from the many newcomers, who showed promise for future projects.

Spoilers: The ending was one of the most dramatic & mind-blowing ever! The show had many jaw-dropping, heart-stopping moments & each episode’s cliffhanger left me on the edge of my seat. This was truly binge-worthy! Set in fictional Daeho, this was a fantasy rom.com with fight scenes, special effects, romantic scenes and a lot of unexpected comedy. The practice of performing “alchemy of souls”, by sorcerers, to create soul shifters, was forbidden, but practiced by a secret society. Shadow assassin, Naksu, became a soul shifter in the body of Mu-deok (Jung So Min), an orphaned, blind girl with hidden powers. She entered a secret master/pupil relationship with Jang Uk (Lee Jae Wook), part of a powerful mage family. His family held a dangerous, dark secret surrounding his birth. There was a love triangle between Mu-deok, Uk, & mage, Seo Yul (Hwang Min Hyun), who was part of Naksu’s past. The chemistry among the talented cast was exceptional & one of the best ensemble cast I’ve ever seen. I loved the love/hate relationship between Crown Prince Go Won (Shin Seung Ho) & Mu-deok & his bromance with Uk. This was a story about good vs. evil and the thin line between humans & monsters. The “ice stone” symbolized ultimate power that couldn’t be possessed and came with the heavy burden of great responsibility & sacrifice. The balance of world order depends on leaders who light the way out of chaos. I can’t wait for what’s to come!

This is a story about taking control of your life & to live it under your own terms. It’s also about finding true love once you learn to accept your imperfections and realize that you’re deserving of love. Thirteen years ago, Choi Sang Eun( Park Min Young) was the “Jamie Project.” Taken from an orphanage, as a little girl, the woman who raised her thought she knew what the best life for Sang Eun was. Yoo Mi Ho trained Sang Eun to become the perfect wife of a conglomerate family, where she became the pawn in a business transaction. Sang Eun spent 13 years escaping that life by becoming a contract bride for hire, in name only, for men who wanted to fulfill their family’s expectations. Her longest-running client of 5 years, Jung Ji Ho(Go Kyung Pyo) was also her favorite. When they started having feelings for each other, they had to overcome public scrutiny and her past as the adopted daughter of a chaebol family. Before retiring, Sang Eun accepted one more client, a popular actor, Kang Hae Jin(Kim Jae Young). She was his first love and role model, trying to escape his own chaebol family’s plans for him to lead the family business. He had to show his parents that acting was the life that made him happy (living his true self). I loved the great cast and the unbelievable chemistry between Park & Go. The 2 surprise proposals topped off this beautiful, romantic love story.

Spoilers: Loved this love story between two high school students, Noguchi Yae & Namiki Harumichi. Their first love was interrupted by a car accident, resulting in Yae's amnesia, unable to recover her memories of first love for twenty years. Both young and older versions of the lovers were played seamlessly by younger versions, Yagi Rikako(Young Yae), Kido Taisei(young Harumichi) & Mitsushima Hikari(older Yae) & Satoh Takeru(older Harumichi). Their beautiful chemistry played out on screen and I found myself immersed in their journey to find each other and fulfill their fated love story. Episode 8 had me in tears when a song was the catalyst in bringing back memories long forgotten. There was only one version of an ending to their love story that I was happy with, which was, in my opinion, fulfilled.

I love dramas with storylines that involve fashion so I was predisposed to liking this one. It was more than I expected and I couldn’t wait to finish watching this short series. The drama centered around four BFF’s who had big dreams and set out to fulfill them. Their mantra was, “Ride or die!” Pyo Ji Eun(Chae Soo Bin) became a stylist at a PR Agency. Ji Woo Min(Choi Min Ho) pursued his dreams of becoming a photographer. Joseph (Lee Sang Woon) dreamed of becoming a fashion designer & Ye Seon Ho (Park Hee Jung) dreamed of becoming a top international model. They all had passion and belief in their dreams, without losing what made each of them special & being true to themselves. Also, Ji Eun & Woo Min had a 3 year romantic relationship that ended suddenly, resulting in unresolved true feelings for each other that they both tried to deny. To complicate matters, they tried to remain friends as Ji Eun confronted her true feelings for boyfriend, Le Nam Jin (Choi Won Myung). I loved the chemistry between the 4 BFF’s and, also, the special relationship between Joseph & his assistant, Esther. In the end, aside from the never-ending support for each other, the success of the 4 BFF’s came from hard work, persistence, perseverance, and the belief in themselves, despite overwhelming odds. Lastly, the breakout, memorable star of the show had to be scene-stealer, Kim Min Kyu(as Shim Do Young). This was definitely a feel good drama.

Spoilers: Like part 1, the jaw-dropping cliff hangers, at the end of each episode, kept me engaged and I binge-watched this drama over 2 days. The fated love story of Jang Uk & Naksu continued. This time, Naksu’s soul was “chosen” to share the body of Jin Bu Yeon(Go Yoon Jung), along with Bu Yeon’s original soul. Three years after Naksu’s supposed death, the secret existence of Bu Yeon was uncovered by Jang Uk. Like their names, UK & Bu Yeon (meaning light & shadow), they were “fated to meet from the start.” Bu Yeon’s lost memories were connected to recovering her divine powers of seeing energy. She was the key to Uk’s search for peace with the heavy burden he carried from being reborn with the ice stone. The Unanimous Assembly let him live to hunt down and kill soul shifters. Bu Yeon’s recovered memories led her to uncovering her true identity & regaining her full powers. However, the existence of Bu Yeon’s original soul meant Naksu’s soul would eventually disappear. A marriage of convenience between Uk & Bu Yeon led to painful consequences and choices that directly impacted the inevitable chaos to come. A secret organization, directly connected to the royal palace, plotted to gain power with the use of the destructive, dangerous Jinyowon “fire bird” relic. Only Uk and Bu Yeon could stop the world from turning into ash. The end result was the reason the fated love of Naksu and Uk could continue to exist. I loved the fight scenes and the perfectly cast characters. The emotional & unexpected outcome to keep Jinyowon from crumbling was shocking. I was happy with the way the storylines were wrapped up at the end, instead of leaving me hanging. I was sad to say goodbye to the incredible characters. I think a spinoff involving Yul’s character would be great. One can only dream.

Spoilers: I was in tears after this movie ended. The love story between Seo Ri Ae(Jeon So Min from favorite variety show, Running Man) and Mo Cheol Woo AKA Sun Woo (Choi Jung Won) was beautifully told through the memories of Cheol Woo, during an interview as a renowned artist, decades after Ri Ae’s death. They met at a hospital when both were young, both in need of a new heart. They struck up a friendship and their love story began. The heart intended for Sun Woo was given to Ri Ae instead because of her rich mother’s influence. Years later, their paths crossed again and Ri Ae recognized Sun Woo,a struggling artist, even though he changed his name to Cheol Woo. As a teenager, Cheol Woo received his father’s heart, after his father died from a car accident. Ri Ae wanted to leave a legacy behind by making sure Cheol Woo’s name became famous before her deteriorating health caught up with her. Her influence as an art curator and eye for talent helped fulfill her goals. In the process, their love for each other grew and eventually they got married, even with Ri Ae’s failing health. I cried when Ri Ae confessed to her new husband that she wanted to live. Mo Cheol Woo lived his life for himself and Ri Ae, after Ri Ae’s death. He found out decades later how much she sacrificed to ensure his success. I was touched by the sad story, played out so well by the two amazing actors.

Spoilers: I loved this Rom.Com! There was plenty of romance and I often laughed out loud. The beautiful cast had great chemistry, especially Wang Xing Yue(as Ren Chu) & Tian Xi Wei(as Lu Wan Wan). Chu showed up in Wan Wan’s life after her devastating heartbreak. She got drunk after news that her 2 BFF’s were in a 2-year relationship, ending her 5-year crush for An Jia Xian. Wan Wan’s drunken declaration to pursue Campus Prince, & straight A Math/AI student, Ren Chu, went viral, with speculation they were in a relationship. The unwanted attention forced them to sign an agreement to clarify and clear up the rumors. In the process, they fell in love. Chu learned to form emotional connections with others & his “light” helped Wan Wan step out of the shadows. She found the courage & confidence to pursue her dreams of becoming a doctor. I loved the believable connection between Wan Wan & BFF, Gu Qiao. Also, 2 of my favorite couples were Qiao & Fan Yi and Xi Bai & quirky Xin Yu. Liu Jian Yu(Yu Yang) had great comedic timing, interrupting many romantic scenes. Lastly, I loved the mushy romantic dialogue like the “Saturn ring”, “green light”(I love you) & proposal, including the symbolism of the meteorite ring(forever). The biggest lesson was that Love should bring out the best version of a person.

Spoilers: The acting was first rate across the board. I especially loved the chemistry between the Sanpo group of friends. This story is about self-worth & self-love and liberating one’s self from the opinions & expectations of others. The main characters live in a small village, Sanpo, a 3-hour round trip train ride from Seoul, where the Yeom siblings work. The Yeom siblings, Mi Jung(Kim Ji Won), Chang Hee (Lee Min Ki), Ki Jung(Lee El) and mysterious Mr. Gu(Son Seok Koo), their father’s work hire, coexist. The siblings commute from their parents’ Sanpo home to Seoul jobs, trying to find their place in society. Ki Jung wants to find love as she approaches forty. When she met Jo Tae Hoon(Lee Ki Woo), she had to overcome her prejudices toward divorcees with children & middle age views. Chang Hee had abandonment fears and broke up with girlfriends before they did. He’s ambitious without clear goals for his career & future. Mi Jung’s exes filled her with hatred. Her last boyfriend’s financial problems threatened her own financial independence & career. She formed a shell to protect herself from pain and decided she wanted someone to worship her. She turned to Mr. Gu, uncaring about his past, & what led to his alcoholism. Also, pressured at work to join a club, she & two other coworkers, formed the “Liberation Club” to liberate themselves from people. Mi Jung felt abandoned when Mr. Gu’s past caught up with him & forced him to leave Sanpo. He became her sanctuary to free herself from hatred. In the process, she helped Gu live life one step at a time. She learned she was lovable and deserving of love. I wish there was a second season after the very open-ended, but hopeful ending.

Spoilers: This fictitious drama was set in 1987, before smartphones and sophisticated tech. Googling 1987 S. Korea, it was the end of an authoritarian government. This spy thriller was full of action, espionage & violence, mixed in with comedic pauses and a love story. For Im Soo Ho(Jung Hae In), a N.Korean spy, & Eun Young Ro(Kim Ji Soo, of Blackpink), a freshman at Hosu University, & daughter of ANSP Director, it was love at first sight. When Soo Ho showed up bloodied in Young Ro’s dormroom, her actions led to consequences that changed & threatened the lives of many. They were caught in a grab for power and seen as disposable pawns in an “election scheme”. It involved a secret, financially-motivated collab with N. Korea. Moreover, what you see doesn’t always tell the sometimes heartbreaking stories of the many characters. Stories included torture, manipulated ideologies, heroism, & family loyalty. The true heroes stepped up during the darkest moments. In the end, the cast played out their roles brilliantly towards the inevitable ending. Deep down, I already accepted it. After finally catching my breath, I realized Soo Ho kept his promise to protect Yeong Ro to the very end.

Spoilers: This rom.com had so many LOL moments, played out by a beautiful cast. For example, Kang Ho’s(Yoo Teo) & Won Joon’s(Kim Ji Hoon) practice kissing scene, complete with sensual background music. They had great bromance chemistry. I loved the way the breeze seemed to follow Kim Ji Hoon’s flowing, long hair. So sexy and drop-dead gorgeous! Moreover, the chemistry between Kim Ok Bin(as Yeo Mi Ran) & Yoo Teo was sizzling hot, & left me breathless. Despite Mi Ran’s views about men, she fell for popular actor, Nan Kang Ho. She made it her goal to punish bad guys through dating & dumping them. Gay rumors about Kang Ho were put to rest when pictures of him kissing a woman surfaced. It led to a contracted fake relationship with his lawyer, Mi Ran. He suffered from an anxiety disorder, rooted in the bad break up a decade ago, with his first love. Mi Ran was the key to his cure. Disillusioned with women who only wanted to improve their status through powerful men, Mi Ran was different. She was independent and excellent in many things & believed she was just as capable as men. They fell for each other and had to overcome public opinion when Mi Ran’s past relationships surfaced. Loyal friends helped change public views, and made it possible for their relationship to continue. The bonus was the romantic limousine scene between Na Eun & Won Joon.

Spoilers: This drama, set in a bank, was slow-paced. Yet, it kept me engaged because of the interesting main and supporting characters, played by a great cast, mixed in with exciting cliffhangers, at the end of each episode. I thought it was going to be a sweet, romantic drama between Ha Sang Soo(Yoo Yeon Seok) & An Soo Young (Moon Ga Young). Ha’s longing glances & An’s distracting smile gave a false sense of what their relationship would ultimately become. After working together for 3 years, Ha finally acted on his feelings. However, his hesitation during their almost first date was a catalyst that led to many “what if’s” & regrets. Instead, they ended up in office romances with different people. Just when I accepted they weren’t meant to be together, I was again drawn to them as a couple with unresolved feelings. The chemistry between Ha & An was sometimes very steamy, especially the hockey rink scene. Personal growth & dreams clashed with the realities of social status, self-love & life experiences. Office romances have life-changing consequences when break ups & scandals are involved. I didn’t like the way Soo Young sacrificed her reputation to escape making relationship choices, when she had no more to give of herself & no more to receive. However, it led to a journey of self-discovery in her search for “future happiness.” In the end, although the storylines were wrapped up, I was ready to pull my hair out, unclear what the relationship was between Ha & An.

Spoilers: This Rom.Com had so many unexpected LOL moments, until it got a little dark. Martial Arts & Chinese medicine expert, Shi Huahua (Rain Lu) left her mountain home for the city, to deliver a letter from her Master. She delivered the letter to Chairman Zhou, who owed his life to Master Shi. He made her V.P. of Administrator of Feiran Capital, tasked with the health & well-being of its President, Zhou Zhifei(Luo Zheng). Also, she became the company’s spokesperson for their new product. Zhifei suffered from PTSD, since he was 6, after witnessing his parents’ car accident deaths. He shouldered the responsibility of his younger brother and the Zhou Group. Although they were polar opposites, Huahua broke down Zhifei’s tough exterior and they fell in love. Love was the cure Zhifei needed to overcome his abandonment issues & insecurities. Huahua added color to his life and made him realize he didn’t have to face life’s challenges alone. Their chemistry was undeniably displayed during the bathtub & kitchen counter scenes. It is worth noting that another couple, Nangong Xiao Xiao(Lin Yan Rou) & Zhou Zhi’Ang (Darrien Zhang) heated up the screen with their amazing chemistry. Together, Huahua & Zhifei faced the threats to Zhifei’s leadership from outsiders & the betrayal of family members. This was my kind of love story & I’m a big fan of Luo Zheng. He almost seems too perfect to be real. I enjoyed his idol-type dancing and pool fantasy scenes.

Spoilers: Cute, romantic drama that had about 15, 15-minute episodes. When twins, Ruan Qingtian & Xinxin(Yan Zhi Chao) switched places during an engagement party to Ren Haoming(Lin Bo Rui), it started a chain of events that changed their lives forever. Xinxin devised a plan with her mother to take away the life Qingtian lived by using their sick father to force Qingtian to comply. Xinxin was brought up by her mother, Chairman Ruan’s mistress. However, the chairman’s wife brought up the elder twin, Qingtian, with a privileged life. After her passing, Qingtian was introduced to her biological mother & twin. Xinxin didn’t want to marry a blind husband and collaborated with his younger brother, Haoxuan (John Wu), to take everything away from Haoming & Qingtian. Haoming’s blindness was caused by a car accident he suspected was intentional. The engaged couple had to live together, according to the engagement agreement. However, Haoming’s ability to feel out people’s heartfelt intentions was the key to the ultimate outcome. He fell for Qingtian and suspected the twin switch from the outset. When Haoming was comatosed for 2 weeks, after a fight with his brother, over his acts against him, he woke up with his eyesight restored and the love of his life gone, replaced by her twin. He set a trap to find Qingtian, through a jewelry contest. In the end, Xinxin’s treachery was exposed. Those who committed crimes against them were apprehended. I loved the “true love” ring proposal, but a wedding would’ve been nice. Yan’s portrayal of twin sisters was convincing as well as her chemistry with Yan.

Spoilers: This show resonated with me because it was a journey of self-discovery & getting in touch with your true self. It was mixed in with a little romance, comedy & very touching, sometimes tragic, storylines. When Lee Yeo Reum (beautiful Kim Seol Hyun, formerly of AOA) broke up with her boyfriend and lost her mother, she had nothing else to lose. She decided to leave her dead end, toxic publishing job of 4 years and left Seoul with only the things in her backpack. Before leaving, her abusive, arrogant boss got what he deserved. She ended up in the quiet, seaside village of Angok. The village had a way of drawing me in & I fell in love with the people who lived there. For Yeo Reum, she met librarian An Dae Beom (Yim Si Wan, former ZE:A member) and they formed a romantic relationship, both looking for similar things in life. He was a genius who left Seoul behind for a quiet life. He suffered from PTSD after his sister was murdered 20 years ago, his Dad was accused of the crime, & his mother committed suicide. Watching two former idols was a bonus. They, along with the rest of the cast, gave top-notch performances. Kim Bom’s (Shin Eun Soo) character stood out. She was a bullied, abused young lady with an alcoholic father, but had a loving grandmother. I loved the sister-like relationship she formed with Yeo Reum. Bae Sung Min (Kwak Min Gyoo) was also unforgettable because of his big heart. Yeo Reum’s idyllic life was rocked by the murder of a beloved character, and the killer led to the real killer of Dae Beom’s sister. In the end, hand in hand with Dae Beom, Yeo Reum decided to stay in Angok and lived a “truly sufficient” life, her definition of happiness.

Spoilers: I didn’t want to say goodbye to the characters, who had so much life ahead of them. It was one of my favorite “coming of age” dramas ever. The cast captured the heart & emotions of the many memorable characters. For 18-year-old Choi Jun Woo (Ong Seong Wu), he was forced to transfer to a new high school, after taking the fall for his best friend. He met Yu Soo Bin (Kim Hyang Gi), who helped change his outlook on the future and gave him the courage & confidence to believe in himself. Brought up by a single, loving mom, and a father who didn’t want him, he had to learn independence at a young age. The scenes with his father were heartbreaking. At his new school, he was framed for a theft at school, but he chose to stay. He and Soo Bin fell for each other, but they had to overcome social prejudice, jealousy, & the pressures of school. Top student, Ma Hwi Young (Shin Seung Ho), set out to get Jun Woo expelled when he found out Soo Bin, the girl he liked & his friend, liked the “newbie.” All his life, his parents compared him to his once perfect older brother. His abusive father used his power to get what he wanted at all costs. Hwi Young realized he had become a monster like his father. However, he chose to take responsibility and face the consequences from the abuses of power that he and his parents were guilty of & fell from his top student status. Jun Woo literally brought him to his knees when he learned humility. I loved Mr. Oh, who had his own insecurities. He believed in his students and accepted their flaws & insecurities, while finding their strengths & encouraged them to believe in themselves.

Spoilers: The dramatic, often shocking, cliffhangers at the end of each episode kept drawing me in. According to the “twin roses” legend, meeting your doppelganger meant the omen of death. When Shen Manning(Li Mo Zhi),Art University sr., was mistaken for her doppelganger, heiress Zhuang Xinyan, her life changed forever. Xinyan saved Manning’s life at the cost of her own life. The death of Xinyan derailed the 17-year plan of Yan Xing Cheng(Fan Zhi Xin) to take back his life, after surviving a car accident. His father died & his mother’s body was never found. Manning owed a debt to Xinyan and was forced to become Yan’s fake fiancee as Xinyan. Xinyan’s last wish was for Manning to save the jewelry powerhouse House of Zhuang & LH Star. Yan & Manning developed feelings for each other as they overcame the many challenges to prove Xinyan’s right to lead the company. However, things changed when Yan was forced to reveal that he was the true heir, Yan Li, and the real Xinyan was killed. It meant Manning had to go back to her old life. Yan Li’s company goals led to a decision to accept a marriage alliance with Tang Lin. Manning took back the love of her life, Yan Yi, by crashing the engagement ceremony. However, when her father’s role in the Zhuang car accident came to light, Yan Yi broke up with her. Spoilers: Along with the entire cast, Sakisaka Takumi(Shirasu Jin) & Nodakura Naho (Yokota Mayuu) were perfectly cast in this romantic, beautiful and heartbreaking, gut-wrenching love story about lost love & love found. Sakisaka was famous in the advertising industry, but gave up designing 5 years ago, after a tragic accident that killed his childhood friend, Chiharu. He was in love with her, but she was married to his brother. Self-blame & guilt prevented him from moving forward with his life. He wanted to disappear because of the burdens he carried. He believed he didn’t deserve happiness or love because he never gave himself permission to grieve. As co-founder of a small design company, he hired a p/t accountant, Nodakura Naho. Her dream was to be an office worker who made friends in the company. She trusted people easily and was lied to and taken advantage of. Her optimism toward life’s ups and downs made her “radiant” in Sakisaka’s eyes. He taught her to be honest about her feelings and gave her the confidence & courage to express herself. She soon saw through Sakisaka’s tough exterior and fell in love with his kindness, gentleness, & thoughtfulness. When she found out about his painful past, she wanted to share his pain and help him heal. She eventually broke through the barrier & opened his heart to love. Spoilers: I enjoyed the love story that unfolded between Lu Wan Wan(Zhang Xue Ying) & Han Jing Mo(Bi Wen Jun) & their amazing chemistry. They first met as children and on a trip to America, 5 years ago. Both times, Lu Wan Wan was Han’s savior. In the present, Han’s a popular, rising star that drama student, Wan Wan, idolized. She dreamed of becoming a top actress on her own terms, despite the fact that her brother headed a top agency. Han became her protector when Wan Wan became the target of other actresses. They became a real-life couple and an online couple in the Moonlight Blade game that Jingmo endorsed. In the end, they became each other’s “safe harbor.” The real-life relationships of the drama’s characters often played out in the online game, which displayed beautiful game art. The relationship between Wan Wan & her brother, Guang Han, was heart-warming. Through Wan Wan’s family, Han experienced what a loving family looked like. Eventually, Wan Wan became the bridge that helped Jing Mo & his mother make peace with and mend their broken relationship. The online wedding scene was elaborate and beautifully orchestrated. I also loved the proposal setting and the loving family touch at the end.

Loved how the couples' storylines played out. They experienced the challenges of first love in University, balancing self-discovery and realizing their dreams. For Joo Ah & Min Ho, their 12-year relationship as BFF’s hung in the balance, when they had romantic feelings for each other. The Idol scenes were a special treat for K-Pop fans like myself. Can't wait for more from Jeong Jae Hyun(as Cha Min Ho, member NCT). His singing voice was beautiful, displayed throughout the show. Already a fan of Park Hye Seo(as Ma Joo Ah). Loved Lee Jin Hyuk's character(as Gil Mok Jin)! Mok Jin & Bo Yeong(Woo Da Vi) were my favorite couple. So much talent among the cast in one beautiful story about first love and youth. Lastly, I was surprised by the identity of “Dear.M”, who created a buzz online for his anonymous first love confession.

Spoilers: This coming-of-age love story follows Kuronuma Sawako(Minami Sara) & Kazehaya Shouta(Suzuka Ouji) from their freshman year in high school, to their graduation & beyond. They first met under a cherry blossom tree on the first day of high school. They developed instant chemistry, and feelings for each other from the start. Shouta was the first to see the real Sawako, nicknamed “Sadako”, for her resemblance to a horror movie character. She kept to herself, until Shouta brought out her amazing, smart, beautiful self. Opening up led to a close friendship with 2 girls in class, Yano Ayane & Yoshida Chizuru. Their relationships had to overcome rumors, but they learned to trust and turn to each other for support as they maneuvered the ups & downs of growing up & personal growth. I loved the development of Chizuru & Ryu childhood into adulthood relationship. Sawako had to learn to express herself clearly when her relationship with Shouta hung in the balance. When graduation loomed, the students were lucky to have Mr. Arai, who encouraged the students to think bigger dreams for themselves. Big life-altering decisions had to be made. They learned to be true to themselves and pursue their dreams courageously, sometimes making sacrifices that affected their relationships. Sawako & Shouta had to trust that their love was forever no matter what their future challenges were. Loved that the story began & ended under the cherry blossom tree.

A model of a home depicting a family, during the Winter Solstice, was Jing Chen’s artwork that Si Qing won at auction. “Winter Solstice” was a theme throughout the show because it symbolized the ideal family and belonging. Si Qing & Jing Chen both had abandonment issues. Si was the result of divorced parents, & Jing was the adopted grandson. They met again and entered a hasty marriage and divorce proceedings the same day. During their legally bonding 2-month cooling off period, they grew close. They had to overcome many challenges, including career choices, personal growth, social prejudice, and personal healing. The “de-sentization” imposed on Chen was a surprise twist, but worked in forcing him to express his pent up emotions that his grandfather taught him to suppress. It allowed him to finally see his worth and reconcile with his brother. I loved the friendship that developed between Si Qing & Yun Pian. They bonded over the shared love of Chen and wanting the best for him. With the help of Si Qing’s total and unquestioning support, Chen learned to live authentically. He became an advocate for the silent voices of Chinese craftsmen, whose almost lost art skills dated back centuries. The touching scene at the end, during the Winter Solstice, became the real version of Chen’s vision of a loving home.

Spoilers: Wei Qing(Yan Xi) & Zhou Shi(Xu Xiao Nuo) met 10 years ago, when Qing saved Shi from drowning. A decade later, Shi saved drunk Qing from falling into the river. Young, handsome, rich & powerful Wei Qing suffered from a form of PTSD, mysophobia, & OCD, after his father’s murder, a decade earlier. His allergic reaction to human touch painted him as a playboy, unable to get close to women, until he met Zhou Shi. Qing used Shi’s family & personal debts, as a struggling art student, to keep her by his side. She taught him that trust & respect were the foundation for any relationship. After he helped her make peace with her unrequited first love, their relationship grew into something more. Their chemistry was undeniable & their kissing scenes, especially the pool scenes, were sizzling hot. I also loved the chemistry between Shi & her housemates. Moreover, although Shi was a catalyst for a cure for Qing’s PTSD, it was up to him to heal himself by finding the truth behind his father’s murder and finally letting go of self-blame and guilt. In the end, Shi & Qing helped each other become better versions of themselves. However, they faced challenges ahead when Shi went abroad to continue her art studies. Hence, there’s a Season 2…

Xue Zi made her take care of Fei, who suffered from memory loss. Two years later, Shi was a top art curator for Snow Group, going by the name, Cissy Snow. The assault left her with a hand injury that forced her to stop painting. Shi met Qing again, who suffered temporary blindness, as a result of hypochondriasis(hallucinations of Zhou Shi), after their break up. Again, Shi was the key to his cure. The changed, better version of Shi, wanted to be good enough to stand by Qing’s side. They had to overcome many professional & emotional challenges and several failed marriage proposals. Qing taught Shi that the “real” version of her was what he loved. The other show’s other couples were married Qiu Jing & Ming Cheng and Fei & Fei Fei. The couples’ chemistry and the friendships among the main cast was just as amazing as the first season. Moreover, Yang Xin Ying(Fei Fei) was a scene stealer and showed range as her character experienced the ups and downs of fighting for Fei. Her comedic timing was perfect. The marriage proposals were romantic and the beautiful double wedding was the perfect touch. I wish there was another season because I loved the beautiful cast & characters.

Spoilers: A main storyline should’ve been Huang Fu Jue’s face blindness, but it wasn’t a consistent problem throughout the show & almost non-existent. It was mentioned that Su was the only exception. However, this was an enjoyable ROM.COM with a beautiful cast. Deng Kai(Jue)was very expressive and his comedic timing made for hilarious LOL moments. Jue carrying Su, after her run-in with the neighborhood security, was my favorite. Years back, Tang Su(Wang Yi Jin) was the leader of a girl group, but a jealous group member set her up to fail with false scandals. Su disappeared, but reappeared as an overweight delivery driver. When she met Time Entertainment CEO, Jue, their lives changed forever. Su became Jue’s live-in maid because he saw beyond her outward appearance and saw sincerity & strengths. They grew close, their chemistry undeniable, especially the kissing scenes. Su was motivated to become worthy of being by Jue’s side and left to reclaim her life. She spent time losing weight before going back to her old agency. As a rising talent, she had to endure more false rumors, but Jue helped clear her name from the past & present rumors. He got caught up in his own fake rumors, aimed at destroying his personal & professional life. He had to prove he was a worthy heir to his family’s company. His constant was Su’s belief & trust in him, despite the challenges they had to face. I loved the unique proposals at the end. It showed that Su was a fearless, strong woman who was Jue’s equal.

Spoilers: Kim Woo Bin starred in this drama, enough said! I’ve been a fan since “The Heirs.” This action-packed, futuristic drama included incredible fight scenes, car chases & great CGI. Not to mention, an incredible cast with great, talented star power. It opened with an animated scene where a comet hits Earth. It forced the survivors of the Korean Peninsula to find sources of oxygen in a polluted, desert environment. Cheonmyeong Group had a monopoly on selling oxygen to its citizens. Air Core was built originally to supply all its citizens with equal access to oxygen. Instead, scarce resources, greed & corruption led to a population divided by status (using QR codes) in 3 districts, “General”, “Special”, & “Core” districts, alienating the poorest, “Refugee” class. Some refugees became “hunters”, who committed crimes to survive. Their only hope of improving their status was to become a “delivery man”, delivering oxygen, but only the toughest were chosen. The best and legendary delivery man, 5-8 (Kim Woo Bin), along with the other delivery people, formed a secret group to expose the Cheonmyeong Group’s past and present atrocities against people, including human experiments and a genocide plan that was status-driven. Moreover, he teamed up with bada** Major Jung Seol Ah (Esom), who was motivated to protect her brother, Sa Wol(Kang Yoo Seok), a mutant refugee, the newest delivery man. I loved the dramatic and positive ending. Kang Yoo Seok is definitely a young talent with a promising future.

Spoilers: The natural, beautiful chemistry between Jing Bo Ran(Lu Yan) & Tan Song Yun(Gui Xiao) drew me in and made me feel the characters’ deep bond, a couple destined to be together. They both made me cry during some of their most touching, heartbreaking scenes. It was a “love at first sight” love story, but young, first love couldn’t survive a long-distance relationship and family issues. A decade later, their unresolved relationship drew them together, when they were finally reunited. Even with a successful career, Xiao was innocent in many ways, including her view of the world. Lu, a Captain on the S.W.A.T. team, specialized in defusing explosives/bombs. Xiao learned the realities of sacrifice and it helped her find her inner strength. She was "home" to Lu Yan. The S.W.A.T. scenes were like an ad for recruiting, but showed the sacrifices of the members and their families. I loved the chemistry/rapport between the members. Also, the aerial views of the country, especially the suspension bridges, were spectacular. Moreover, this drama was about family, even after divorce. I loved the many strong female characters, including Duan Rou, Meng Xiao Shan & Shen Jin. Lastly, although the long-awaited wedding was beautiful & touching, I had so many questions. They included details of how Lu got hurt & the relationship between Duan Rou & Qin Ming Yu. This was one of my favorite love stories.

Spoilers: Although this was a beautiful love story, I loved the many strong female characters. It included women trying to break through the “glass ceiling” in the male dominated world of top lawyers. Empowerment came from believing in themselves, despite all odds. I especially loved the respect & competition between Qin Shi(Yang Mi) & Li Dai(Tang Jing Mei). For Qin Shi, she made up a fake husband & child to help her fight social prejudice against single, career-minded women. Her goal was to become a law firm partner and help change the social divide. Her plans were almost derailed when her fake husband, Yang Hua(Xu Kai) showed up. For Yang Hua, it was “love at first sight”, but he had to convince Qin Shi, the most amazing woman he’s ever met, that she deserved happiness. Her father’s divorces and family marriages scared her away from marriage. They entered a 3-year fake marriage contract, but too many people found out and Qin Shi almost lost everything. They were complete opposites who complimented each other and allowed each other to become better versions of themselves. Yang Hua gave her the choice & freedom to choose to see him as a shield against life’s realities or a safe harbor, a person she could rely on. Qin Shi never wavered from her principals & gave up alot to stay true to herself. A 7-month separation gave Qin Shi the space she needed to realize Yang Hua was her “home” and the only man she loved.

For the next 4 years, Qiao Jing became Gu Yi’s indispensable secretary at his family’s company. Qiao Jing resisted developing true feelings for Gu Yi, who was a self-absorbed, possessive, controlling, &, sometimes, obsessive lover & boss. Their chemistry was sizzling hot, like some of their kissing scenes. In the beginning, I wanted Qiao Jing to leave him, a testament to Luo Zheng’s believable portrayal of Gu Yi. The truth about the car accident, which involved Gu Yi, uncovered many shocking surprises, including the role the Gu family played and Gu Yi’s heroism. The dead didn’t stay dead & family secrets & lies were exposed and a power struggle ensued within the family. It led to company sabotage, kidnapping, & attempted murder. Gu Yi learned humility and overcame hardships when his leadership was challenged. He was able to rise above it and became a better leader. Gu Yi & Qiao Jing proved they could overcome many obstacles together, which included a heartbreaking personal loss, social prejudice, & betrayal from unexpected sources. They were stronger together and true love allowed them to grow into better versions of themselves. I loved the drinking competition between their mothers. AKA: "Let's Get Divorced" Spoilers: Although “divorce” was in the title, I hoped, throughout the show, that Taishi(Matsuzaka Tori) & Yui(Naka Riisa) stayed together. They had really great chemistry. Their marriage was broken the first time Taishi had an affair. They stayed married for the sake of his political career & her acting career & endorsements. Taishi, a 3rd-gen politician, was used to everything handed to him, including his current Congressional seat from his father. During re-election, he faced a strong rival. Taishi & Yui had to face the consequences of a double affair and an unplanned pregnancy. In the end, the election results changed both of them and, despite the spark between them, they divorced. Three years later, using lessons learned from the last election, Taishi was a stronger, confident candidate through hard work. He was able to face his personal responsibilities, including being a good father to his son. Yui learned she was happier single and dating. I loved the entire cast and some scenes were hilarious! It was played out by an amazing cast, including younger talents, Woo Do Hwan(as Kim Geon Woo) & Lee Sang Yi (as Hong Woo Jin). In 2020, during the Covid 19 pandemic, many struggling S. Koreans turned to loan sharks. Geon Woo was a Junior Boxing Champion, whose dreams were put on hold because of the pandemic. His last match, against Woo Jin, a fellow ex-Marine, was the start of a bromance and unbreakable friendship. Woo Jin’s obsession with Marine Pride was hilarious. Their natural rapport brought out the heart and soul of the drama. When Geon Woo’s mother became a victim of loan shark, Kim Myung Gil, he ended up teaming up with Woo Jin to bring him down. They met Choi Tae Ho, an ex-loan shark, who gave out interest-free loans to the most needy. They worked for him as his granddaughter’s bodyguards. They, along with Choi’s “left & right hand man”, expert “knifers”, teamed up to take down Kim Myung Gil, who used to work for Choi. Jun Woo & Woo Jin barely escaped with their lives. Spoilers: This Rom.Com had a beautiful cast, including the most adorable child actor I’ve ever seen, Cui Yi Xin (as Min Quan Quan). The love story between Min Hui(Wang Yu Wen) & Xin Qi(Wang Zi Qi) began five years ago, after a tragedy. It was a case of mistaken identity that blossomed into love and ended in heartbreak. Five years later, they met again. Min Hui became a R&D director for a tech co. & Xin Qi became a CEO of an investment co. Their past relationship resulted in a son with the same life-threatening heart condition as Xin Qi. They had to make peace with the past to find their way back to each other and build a home and family. It included finding the truth about the tragedy of Xin Qi’s childhood friend, Su Tian. They had to put the past behind them through forgiveness. I loved the strong, courageous, fierce, independent female characters, especially Min Hui & Cao Mu(Ma Xin Rui). The subject of sexual harassment in the workplace, which Min Hui was a victim of, was a storyline about empowerment and courage. Finally, a beautiful wedding is always a great way to end a beautiful love story.

Spoilers: The love story between formerly-engaged couple, Han Dong Lai(Wang Hao Xuan) & Zhong Ling(Song Mei Na) ended abruptly 6 years in the past. Jealous, cruel Lin Xia Xi plotted to break them up, with the help of an ex-con. She was successful in breaking them up, at the cost of Dong Lai being injured and unable to walk. Six years later, Zhong Ling returned with her young son, Kele, who needed to be treated for his congenital diabetes. There were heartbreaking consequences related to keeping Kele’s paternity a secret. Ling’s career opportunity, adapting her work into a movie, meant working for a media company headed by Dong Lai. The chemistry between them kept me interested in the drama, along with the beautiful cast, including ADORABLE Kele(Li Yi Chen). The 20 episodes were short and felt like a dash to the finish line. In a regular drama, the longer episodes allow for storyline and character development sometimes lacking in this drama. I would’ve liked to have seen Dong Lai & Ling’s love story unfold before their break up. Also, Ling’s relationship with Chu Mo and his grandmother needed to be told in real-time so viewers could see the hardships they endured and how they overcame them. Ling’s struggles as a single mother, before meeting Dong Lai again, was another storyline that needed to be told in greater detail. I felt like someone looking in from the outside, instead of feeling like I was on a journey with the characters. I still loved this drama because I love happy endings after overcoming obstacles.

Spoilers: It’s great to see the seamless transition from K-POP Idol to acting, especially great acting. Rom.Com couple, Cheon Sa Rang(Girl’s Gen “Yoona”, Im Yoon Ah) & Gu Won(2 P.M.’s Lee Jun Ho) were perfectly cast. They had perfect &, sometimes, sizzling hot chemistry. Jun Ho’s abs scene was a bonus. I loved the entire cast & the incredible comedic timing in the drama. The relationships throughout the drama helped develop the often touching storylines. I especially loved Sa Rang’s relationships with her BFF’s (and their dance scenes) & her relationship with grandma. Also, I loved Won’s relationship with Sang Sik and Sa Rang'sgrandma. I look forward to future projects with Kim Jae Won, who played Lee Ro Woon. For Gu Won, Sa Rang’s genuine smile & sincerity helped him see his role as his family’s King Hotel Head Manager through new eyes. Sa Rang rose quickly as the hotel’s top concierge, by her own merits, with her belief (from fond memories with her mom) that staying at a hotel should be a happy experience. She set out to recreate that feeling. She and Won had to overcome rumors, social prejudice & Gu family skeletons and divisions. In the process, both decided to live their lives courageously, on their own terms, to fulfill their dreams. Their unending support for each other, including true love, helped them grow individually and as a couple. Finally, I love weddings in dramas and I felt the viewers deserved one in this show. I loved the ending, including the long-awaited wedding scenes.

Spoilers: “Our story started when he was 22 years old and ended when I was 22 years old.” It was a story of unconditional love between Sang Zhi(Zhao Lu Si) & Duan Jiaxu(Chen Zhe Yuan). Their beautiful, perfect chemistry leads the viewer on their journey as they bridge their age gap and their gradual transition from sister/brother 2 to lovers. It included heart-racing & HOT kissing scenes. Zhi first met her older brother’s friend, Jiaxu, when she was in middle school. He became her mentor and first crush, but timing is everything & they became better versions of themselves throughout the years. They fell in love when Zhi attended university in the city where Jiaxu lived. Zhao’s portrayal of Zhi often moved me to tears. The heartbreaking airport scene, when she thought Jiaxu broke his promise resonated with me. For Jiaxu, he paid for the sins of his father, but Zhi showed him he was worthy of love. Moreover, some of the funniest, most touching & moving scenes included the sibling relationship between Zhi (little demon) & Yan(silly dog). Victor Ma is a star in the making. If there was a second season, it would be about Yan’s own love story. Also, the supporting cast complimented the main characters and showcased real chemistry among the incredible cast. I loved the BFF relationships of Jiaxu & Zhi and their dormmates. Lastly, the surprise proposal truly surprised me and was beautifully played out. I absolutely LOVED this show!!!!

Spoilers: The love story between Ruan Nianchu(Yilia Yu) & Li Yeng(Tsao Yu Ning) began 5 years ago. Nianchu was held hostage by organized crime, but “Lee” protected her by claiming her as his woman. He infiltrated a criminal organization with the mission to take it down. In the process, he almost got killed. I am unclear how Nianchu became a hostage and the details of her escape. Did I miss it? Five years later, they meet again & Lee goes by “Li Teng”, the President of a security co. His mission to take down organized crime continued with the hunt to find the elusive new leader, Da’an. A chip that was hidden in a coin, that Nianchu didn’t know she possessed, was the key to completing the mission. The chemistry between Nianchu & Li Teng was believable and, sometimes, very HOT! I loved the proposal using the lighters. However, the metaphor describing Nianchu as the light in a character’s dark world was used too often. Both Li Yeng & Tuo Li used it to describe her. I loved Yu Fei(Leslie Ma), who pursued Jiang Hao, & refused to take “no” for an answer. She had to go through little Xing Xing to prove herself. Xu Duo Duo played spoiled Xing Xing very convincingly. In the end, Li Teng had to outsmart Da’an to save Nianchu. The fight sequences were sometimes heartstopping, especially the ones that involved Li Teng. There were a few surprises, but I was hopeful the ending was a happy one. The beachside wedding was beautifully orchestrated and appreciated.

Spoilers: Despite the storyline about loss, which had many flaws, this was a beautiful love story between Shen Jun Yao(Luo Zheng) & Xia Mo(Ji Mei Han). Xia Mo decided to pursue her dream job at Candy and planned to move back to her parents’ old home. It was occupied by tech genius Shen Jun Yao. Rumors about their relationship threatened the image of the Shen family company. They entered a 3-month Relationship Contract Agreement and lived together as a fake couple, to protect the company’s image. Xia Mo uncovered a secret basement that housed a human-like robot, Starlight. After Starlight rescued Xia Mo from a fire, repairing the robot required a connection to Xia Mo, who became its new “master.” Jun Yao, who suffered from PTSD, resulting from a past tragedy, was unable to become intimate, until he met Xia Mo. Their chemistry, using mostly close ups, showcased heart-racing and sizzling attraction to each other. Their fake relationship turned into true love. However, outside forces, including rumors, company sabotage, an ex-girlfriend, an unresolved past, & disapproving parents threatened their relationship. Although I guessed what happened to Jun Yao’s brother, it was a story of reconciliation and redemption. Lastly, the proposal was one of the most original & beautiful I’ve ever seen in a drama, so far. WOW!

Spoilers: Ten years ago, Jian Bing’s (Bai Bai He) beautiful smile, at a bus stop, left a lasting impression on 16-year-old Sheng Yang(Xiao Zhan). Her ad inspired him to study design and go into advertising. In the present, they met again through work. Jian Bing, at age 36, recently divorced her business partner husband, fed up with his infidelities. Enter handsome Sheng Yang, a young, ambitious & promising designer. Jian Bing didn’t intend to enter into another relationship, but was drawn to Sheng. Self-blame for her mother’s early death and her father’s infidelities impacted her views on love. Yang made her see she was worthy of love. Sheng Yang meant “exuberant sun” & he became her “little sun.” She wanted to work hard to “walk towards the sunlight.” They had to overcome professional & personal obstacles, including stereotypes related to their 10-year age gap, & social status. The many relationships in the show, including Yang’s close relationship with his parents & Song Chen(Liu Xun), provided a layer that added depth & realism to the show’s characters. I loved Bing’s fierce independence. In fact, the show had many fierce female characters, including Shan Shan, Rou, & Shuang. Julia Xiang(Pan Rou) & Wu Xing Jian(Hao Jun Jie) both look like promising, young lead actors. The incredible cast brought out the heart & soul of the beautiful love story. It was very romantic, moving, funny, & unforgettable.

Spoilers: First, great casting! I felt a real chemistry between the characters, Zhong Wei(Liu Te) & Chen Mi Ren(Thea Xi), and the supporting roles were perfectly cast. As a child, Wei’s “heroine” saved him from bullies. In high school, he mistook Mi Ren for his “heroine”. They became a couple until the real “heroine” showed up. Mi Ren transferred to another school, rather than facing Zhong Wei and clearing up the misunderstanding. They ended up going to the same University and became a couple again, but were confronted with the past and had to face their true feelings for each other. I loved the growth of the characters, especially Mi Ren and her dormmates. They found inner strength and growth and became better versions of themselves. They learned to overcome life’s often painful personal/professional lessons and became strong, independent women. I love storylines where women contribute to the success of the person they have a personal relationship with. In this story, Mi Ren’s “innovative spirit” matched Zhong Wei’s and became equal partners in both their business & personal relationship.

Spoilers: Loved this sweet, romantic show & its great cast! Hwang Min Hyun(Kim Do Ha) & Kim So Hyun(Mok Sol Hee) had beautiful chemistry. Hwang Min Hyun plays wide-eyed “sweet innocence” & vulnerability beautifully and I can’t help being drawn to him throughout the show. Sol Hee was born with the ability to “hear lies”, which led to a profitable business. However, she couldn’t make friends, unable to trust anyone, until she met mysterious, honest Kim Do Ha. They were destined to meet again, after a brief meeting on a bus, 5 years ago. For years, Do Ha lived a lonely life, wearing a mask, after being implicated in the unsolved disappearance of his ex-girlfriend. An award-winning composer, under his new identity, and never pictured without his mask, his lonely life changed when he lived next door to Sol Hee, and eventually entered into a romantic relationship. Sol Hee chose to believe in him when his past caught up with him. Leading the investigation to find the truth about Do Ha’s missing ex, was Sol Hee’s handsome ex-fiancé, Lee Kang Min(Seo Ji Hoon). The many twists & turns that led to a surprise culprit, after a body was unearthed, turned into an unexpected, heartbreaking story of a love triangle. Moreover, Yun Ji On’s (Jo Deuk Chan) portrayal of Do Ha’s best friend was noteworthy & heart-wrenching. Lastly, I loved the sweet proposal. In the end, Sol Hee decided to focus on “what I trust and love more.” Lies or truth are rooted in what is in the heart of the person. Some lies protect and shield our loved ones and are not meant to cause pain.

Spoilers: On a rainy day, in 2012, at a corner store, it only took a glance from Zai Zai’s “bright eyes” to change Lu Rang’s world forever. Zhang Lu Rang(Zhou Yi Ran) lived his life in the shadow of his genius younger brother, but Su Zai Zai(Zhang Miao Yi) helped him see his worth. Through her eyes, he learned to believe in himself and the amazing person he is. For Zai Zai, it was love at first sight and Lu Rang became the center of her universe from high school on. She used video as her diary and, through her eyes, recorded the passages of life, its ups & downs, first & true love, friendships & personal growth, mixed in with many LOL moments. This had to be one of my favorite stories about adolescence because the chemistry between Lu Rang, Zai Zai & their BFF’s was perfectly played out by an incredible cast. I especially loved the often moving, cry-worthy relationship between Guan Fang & his grandmother. The long-awaited confession between Gu Ran & Jiang Jia finally happened. Also, Bian Tian Yang as Gu Ran showed he has that “x-factor” that deserves a second look. Lastly, Lu Rang’s uniquely beautiful proposal was very heartwarming, followed by a wedding that celebrated joy and happiness. This is a show worth watching more than once!

Spoilers: I thought this was going to be a sweet story of everlasting love with some comedy mixed in. In the beginning, it looked like a rom.com and I laughed a lot, until the floodgates of heart wrenching, heart breaking tears started. Lee Yeong Jae(Esom) & On Joon Yeong(Seo Kang Joon) were only 20 years old when they first met because of a train incident. There was the promise of first love(their attraction undeniable) as student hairstylist, Yeong Jae, kissed college student, Joon Yeong during a hot hair salon scene. A story of tragedy unfolded when Yeong Jae’s only family, her older brother, Soo Jae, became dependent on her. It led to a break up. Seven years later, they met again and Yeong Jae’s a promising hairstylist with big dreams. Yoon Yeong, a young police chief, was happy leading an ordinary life. Their unresolved feelings for each other turned into a second chance at love, until it turned into a love triangle. For Yeong Jae, love “changes in a moment.” Their differences proved to be too much. Broken, Joon Yeong went abroad and found his calling as a chef. Five years later, their lives crossed again. Joon Yeong’s life seemed to be headed in a happy direction, with another woman and chef at his own small restaurant. The tragic life of Yeong Jae was painfully heartbreaking and felt like an endless dark hole void of light and happiness, including her BFF’s own health diagnosis. When Joon Yeong became a ray of hope, it looked like they had a third chance at love. It turned into a story of self love and growth, through painful lessons, in order to become better versions of themselves. Keep the box of tissue handy.

Spoilers: Admittedly, I thought I wasn’t going to like this drama because the storylines had to develop. I was sucked in and couldn’t stop watching. The main character, Jung Da Eun(Park Bo Young) , transferred to the psychiatric department, after her former supervisor suggested it, unhappy with her performance. Her attachment to her patients and kindness made her unique. After a short period of adjustment, she became good at her job. However, she never put herself first and, after the loss of a patient, self-blame led her to spiral into depression, and she became a patient at another hospital. The “prejudice & stigma” associated with mental health is heartbreakingly showcased, and something Da Eun had to overcome with personal growth. Also, the drama showed that the staff is human and aren’t desensitized or numb to pain in dealing with patients. The special effects throughout gives a visual insight into the psyche of the different characters. I was brought to tears, a testament to an incredible cast. Sandwiched into the drama are two love stories that are tied to self love and self worth. Lastly, the storyline between head nurse, Song, and her sister was touching. The reality that mental health can affect anyone at any time is something seen in real life. It makes the show realistic, relevant, & unforgettable. A must see drama.

Spoilers: I decided to watch this drama because of The Rose and “Burn” is one of the OST’s. I wasn’t disappointed. The cast was one of the best I’ve ever seen in a KDrama. Lee Joon Gi(as Kim Hee Woo) & Lee Kyung Young(as Cho Tae Seob) led a very talented cast. Kim Hee Woo lost his parents and had to work hard to get into University and eventually became a public prosecutor. He was a young, fearless prosecutor who believed in justice and wanted to wipe out corruption. He went after powerful Assemblyman, Cho Tae Seob, and ended up dead. However, he met a mysterious woman who gave him the chance to live again to make Cho’s life on Earth a living hell. “You can not catch the devil unless you are a bigger monster. Hee Won found himself back in High School, before his parents’ suspicious deaths. He had to go through college & the military draft again and his memories from his previous life were intact. In order to keep his promise to take down Cho, Hee Won had to become a better version of himself. He changed the fate of some of the characters in his new life, including his parents, but there were life and death consequences. The knowledge about criminal cases from Hee Won’s previous life, and the help from allies, helped him take down Cho’s powerful, corrupt followers, and eventually fulfilled his promise. However, Kim Hee Woo faced more monsters as a secret club of the rich and powerful resurfaced. His work was far from over.

Spoilers: This Rom.Com, aside from the beautiful story of childhood first love that, 15 years later, turned into true, unconditional love, was layered in with funny, heartwarming, heartbreaking, often touching, moments. It was about choosing to be the main character of your own story through growth and self love. The beautiful chemistry between Hye Jin(Hwang Jung Eum) & Sung Jun (Park Seo Joon) played out perfectly and they courageously found their own fairytale life together. The wonderful cast helped tell the story. The memorable characters included RaRa, the most colorful, but likable character I’ve ever seen. Also, Choi Si Won as Kim Shin Hyuk, showed great comedic acting and gave some of the most touching & heartbreaking moments, especially regarding his feelings for Hye Jin. His acting was mind blowing and a Part 2 as the main character would’ve been great to see. The sister-type bond between Hye Jin & Ha Ri was beautiful and had to weather the consequences of switching identities, when Sung Jun came back from abroad to find his first love. I loved the growth of Hye Jin and Sung Jun, including supporting each other, to fulfill their dreams and goals. Lastly, the unexpected proposals were romantic and the wedding was a bonus. This is a drama that deserves to be watched more than once.

Spoilers: At the heart of this unique, romantic drama is a story about eternal love that spans two centuries. Jung Koo Won(Song Kang) became a Demon as a sort of middle finger to God for the tragic fate of his forbidden love. In the present, young, beautiful CEO, Do Do Hee, “accidentally” meets Jung and her life is changed forever. After an attempt on Do Hee’s life resulted in an accident, Koo Won’s source of demon power, a cross tattoo, transferred to Do Hee. It meant Koo Won had to stay close to Do Hee. After Do Hee’s mentor, Joo Chun Sook, died under suspicious circumstances, and named Do as successor to a powerful Chaebol family business, more attempts on her life were thwarted by her demon bodyguard and contract husband, Koo Won. It turned out that they shared the same fate and a shared, tragic past life was destined to repeat itself. God, in the form of an unexpected character, explained to Koo Won that he was becoming more human and dying unless he recovered his tattoo. Do Hee wanted to return to a normal, peaceful life and chose to relinquish all rights to become the successor. However, as she uncovered company corruption, greed, cruelty, murder, and Koo Won’s connection to Do Hee’s parents’ death, when she was 11, Koo Won eventually had to make the ultimate sacrifice to keep her alive. Enter a Christmas miracle, when Do Hee made a wish, barely existing in a world without her beloved demon husband. This was a beautiful love story with unexpected LOL moments, sprinkled in with amazing CGI visuals to compliment supernatural, romantic elements. The chemistry between Kim & Song was perfect. Moreover, aside from the outstanding cast, Kang Seung Ho’s portrayal of tragic Noh Do Kyung was an award caliber performance. I loved this show.

  • Only for Love

    293. Only for Love

    Chinese Drama - 2023, 36 episodes

    9.5

Spoilers: First, if a love story has 36 episodes, the main characters deserve a wedding. That being said, I loved the chemistry between my favorite Chinese actor, Dylan Wang(Shi Yan) & Bai Lu(Zheng Shu Yi). The other couples were also well-matched and the cast was beautiful. I especially liked Shen Yu Jie’s charming portrayal, and scene-stealing moments, as Qin Shi Yue. This Rom.Com was filled with LOL one-liners and sexy innuendos between the main characters, and both showed great comedic timing. Their kissing scenes were hot and their steamy scenes were hotter. Moreover, the growth of the female characters, in strong roles, made the storylines more interesting. The main character, Shu Yi, was a very insightful and talented young reporter for a leading financial magazine, with a goal to expand the online magazine. After a break up with her materialistic boyfriend, she targeted the young, handsome CEO, Shi Yan. It was a case of revenge against her ex and his new girlfriend. Shu Yi ended up paying for the consequences of mistaken identity, and putting her loving relationship with Shi Yan at risk. Their love was born out of physical attraction and respect for each other’s professional brilliance. They had to learn to put the past in the past. Their support of each other, professionally and personally, helped them overcome obstacles they encountered in their quest to fulfill their goals and dreams. This was also a story about families and the next generation of smart, capable professionals who had to prove themselves through hard work and belief in themselves.

    9.5

Spoilers: This Rom.Com was wonderfully cast. The chemistry between the main characters, Sakura (Kamishiraishi Mone) & Tendou(Satoh Takeru) was unexpectedly believable. Sweet, pretty Sakura met handsome Dr. Tendou 5 years ago. He answered her call for help when a stranger lay on the ground. She felt she met the “Prince” of her heart and was inspired to become a nurse. As a rookie nurse, Sakura(the “Warrior”) confessed to Dr. Tendou(the “Devil”). She had to overcome her insecurities and worked harder to become an “excellent nurse”, no matter what others thought. She developed a special rapport with her patients, sometimes leading to negative consequences, but mostly helped doctors determine how to treat their patients. Eventually, Sakura’s persistence and pure heart helped Dr. Tendou see her for the strong, beautiful person she was. In the process, it helped him heal from a tragic past. His derogatory names for Sakura, like “dimwit”, became terms of endearment as their relationship grew, and despite challenges from other suitors. Finally, Dr. Tendou supported Sakura’s goal to become an excellent nurse and made the sacrifices necessary to help her grow into the best version of herself. The wedding scene had a few surprises, including an LOL moment, just like the rest of this beautiful, romantic drama.

    Japanese Drama - 2020, 7 episodes

    9.5

Spoilers: The perfect chemistry between the main characters kept me wanting more. This was a short, sweet, romantic drama that I enjoyed. Although young, Itagaki Mizuki, former idol of boy band M!lk (as Miura Manatsu) was a real leading man, mesmerizing, with an aura of honesty about him. Matsui Airi, former member of idol group Sakura Gakuin (as Haruta Ami) complimented her leading man beautifully. This love story started out as 2 people who had their reasons to marry someone they met on their first physical meeting, through a dating app. Miura did it for his sick mother and Haruta did it after her boyfriend of 5 years cheated on her. Once they lived together, there was a period of adjustment, getting to know each other, and eventually falling in love with each other’s true selves. The emphasis was on the growth of the characters individually and as a couple. They had to overcome the shock of working for the same company and keeping their marriage a secret. The love scenes in romantic Japanese dramas are hot without the need to include explicit scenes, including this drama, especially the surprise birthday scene. More romance is always a plus and this drama delivered.

Spoilers: This was one of those dramas where I was tempted to watch the ending, after only 2 episodes. Instead, I had to binge watch. I was prepared for a sad ending. This story spanned 300 years, to the Josean period, when a young shaman, Aeng Cho, & Mu Jin first met. They developed a friendship, against social norms, and fell in love. Their ill-fated story came to a dramatic end, with a generational curse against the Jang family line. The reincarnated versions of the lovers were destined to meet again. Lee Hong Jo (Jo Bo Ah), a lowly civil servant, and lawyer, Jang Shin Yu(Rowoon) were destined to fall in love, Love Spell or not. Hong Jo was the key to Shin Yu’s disease, connected to the family Jang curse. The discovery of a wooden box helped unlock their past lives, merging their present life with their destiny. The Jang family shaman warned their destiny was a never ending tragedy, until someone dies. Shin Yu’s near death at the hands of Hong Jo’s stalker threatened their past life wish for a happy ending in the next life. Surprisingly, this drama had many LOL moments. Rowoon and Jo Bo Ah had perfect chemistry and comedic timing. There were plenty of sizzling hot scenes between them, especially the dressing room scene in Ep.15. A woman in a man’s white dress shirt always works to make a scene sexy and unforgettable. The cast was amazing! Rowoon was made for the screen. Lastly, the drama contained some of the most beautiful scenery I’ve ever seen. This was a beautiful love story and a must see.

  • Welcome to Samdal-ri

    297. Welcome to Samdal-ri

    Korean Drama - 2023, 16 episodes

    9.5

Spoilers: This Rom.Com was full of heart and soul, with unforgettable, unique characters, brought to life by an incredible cast. The love story between Cho Yong Pil(Ji Chang Wook) & Cho Sam Dal (Shin Hye Sun) was rooted in a friendship between their mothers. Born on the same day, they grew up in Jeju Island, in the town of Samdalri. Sam Dal grew up with male BFF’s and called themselves the”Power Rangers.” Also, she and her 2 sisters were uniquely infamous. The tragic death of Yong Pil’s mother led to the heartbreaking broken relationships between the two Cho families, which eventually led to the break up of Yong Pil & Sam Dal, and an 8-year separation. When Sam Dal moved back from Seoul, her reputation as a top fashion photographer was destroyed when fake accusations of abuse of power surfaced. Yong Pil helped her find her true self as she rebuilt her life and found a new direction as a photographer. His own dreams to become a top meteorologist were put on hold until he resolved his past obligations. In the process, their interrupted love story grew stronger and they had to overcome and mend the painful past between their families. I loved the relationships between the Cho sisters and Sam Dal and her male BFF’s. In addition, Kim Do Eun (as Cha Ha Yool) was a scene stealer and provided some of the most moving scenes in the drama. I also loved the many LOL moments, including the seaweed fight and the “roach” motel. This was a love story between friends, family, lovers and a drama full of heartwarming stories. Lastly, I also loved the haenyeo’s. Although I expected more from the ending, I highly recommend this drama.

    Chinese Drama - 2023, 22 episodes

Spoilers: This was an enjoyable, sweet love story that I binge-watched in a day. Gu Ming Yan(Li Pei En) & Xu Nian (Zheng Nan Xi) both lost a parent to suicide at a young age, and, as a result, suffered from PTSD. The key to a cure for both involves trust and love. For Min Yan, the death of his biological father drove him to become the CEO of the Gu family company ( the same company that led to his father’s bankruptcy). As a legal Gu heir, his plans to avenge his father’s death changed when he met Xu Nian. Xu Nian spent years trying to clear her mother’s scandalous past, which involved the Gu family. They entered into an engagement employment contract, which turned into true feelings for each other, and a real engagement. The events that led to their parent’s suicides was about greed, power & status. Also, the paternity of Xu Nian was another game changer, and the DNA power game of a possible Gu heir directly affected the decision to name the CEO of the company. It almost put an end to Xu Nian & Gu Ming Yan’s relationship. Over all, this was an entertaining drama full of surprises and turned into a love story with room for second chances.

  • My Dearest Part 2

    299. My Dearest Part 2

    Korean Drama - 2023, 11 episodes

Spoilers: The big mystery at the beginning of the show drew me in and I binge-watched to the very end. This beautiful, fictitious love story between Lee Jang Hyun(Namkoong Min) & Yoo Kil Chae(Ahn Eun Jin) was set in 1600’s Joseon, during the Qing Dynasty. The mysterious, confirmed bachelor, Jang Hyun, first met beautiful, popular, & strong-minded noble maiden, Kil Chae in idyllic Neunggun-ri. The mystery behind Jang Hyun’s noble title was rooted in a tragic past. He became someone else without a hometown. For him, Kil Chae was like, “the sound of a flower”, but she was in love with Nam Yeon Joon, who liked her best friend, Eun Ae. Although Jang Hyun pursued Kil Chae, his no-marriage belief made him seem untrustworthy. Family responsibilities kept Kil Chae from following her heart and she chose to marry someone else. It seemed like she made the right choice, until she faced the atrocities and life-changing events that followed. They seemed destined to cross paths at pivotal times in their lives and were often separated by dramatic, sometimes dangerous situations. At times, I began to believe this was a tragic love story. Although there were some LOL and very heartwarming, heart breaking, touching & cry-worthy scenes, the brutality of war included the inhumane treatment of Joseon slaves, captured Joseon women, and escaped captives. Moreover, a scared Joseon King led to the unjust treatment of its citizens, which was in stark contrast to the belief that the King protects his people. It included torture, executions, and secret murders of innocent people. The excellent cast brought realism and drama throughout the series. The fictional characters and storylines blended perfectly with the real historical events of the period. The costumes were exquisite. The dramatic ending was worth the emotional roller coaster and the beautiful visuals and OST were a reminder that this was a love story. It was perfect and a must-see.
