  • Ainori: African Journey

    1. Ainori: African Journey

    Japanese TV Show - 2019, 22 episodes

    9.0

I love Ainori.  This show is wild.  I hope they will come out with more.  I love how stylized this show is! (1/31)

  • My Holo Love

    2. My Holo Love

    Korean Drama - 2020, 12 episodes

    7.0

This drama isn't very deep or unique, but it's a sweet watch.  If you like Yoon Hyun Min, it's a must watch in my book. (2/8)

  • Parasite

    3. Parasite

    Korean Movie - 2019

    9.0

This movie offers an interesting, modern commentary and take on the staircase film.  It made me think, and want to watch it again. (2/22)

  • Terrace House Tokyo 2019-2020

    4. Terrace House Tokyo 2019-2020

    Japanese TV Show - 2019, 42 episodes

    9.0

I love Terrace House and how it is set up.  I was devastated to hear the news about Hana's untimely passing.  To me it's tragic that fans of the show would send such negative feedback and comments.  Sad to see this show go and gravely disappointed in how cutting people can be.  (5/29)

  • Hospital Playlist

    5. Hospital Playlist

    Korean Drama - 2020, 12 episodes

    8.0

I love this production team!  They just bring such quality to their dramas!  I loved how this drama beautiful blends slide of life and comedy.  I do have to say that this drama requires a certain state of mind since each episode sits around 90 minutes each.  I am looking forward to season 2 next year! (10/31)

  • The Tale of Nokdu

    6. The Tale of Nokdu

    Korean Drama - 2019, 32 episodes

    8.0

I know this drama has mixed reviews, but it really offered all I was looking for.  The premise of this being a reverse cross-dressing drama attracted me initially.  I couldn't resist a new imagining of kdrama hijinks.  I really felt that overall this drama was pretty well paced.   I ended up binge-ing it in 2 days.  For me, there wasn't really any big plot twists, just I was curious how they were going to pull it all off.  (11/1)

  • It's Okay to Not Be Okay

    7. It's Okay to Not Be Okay

    Korean Drama - 2020, 16 episodes

    10

This drama is beautiful.  I was blown away with the way this drama was able to meld emotional depth with breathtakingly dark fantasy themes.  I really appreciated the way this drama was able to structure each episode around a fairy tale.  For me this drama was so very healing. (11/6)

  • Extracurricular

    8. Extracurricular

    Korean Drama - 2020, 10 episodes

    9.0

Extracurricular is an excellent drama with incredibly tight writing.  This gritty story will kept me on the edge of my seat.  (11/8)

  • Flower of Evil

    9. Flower of Evil

    Korean Drama - 2020, 16 episodes

    9.0

Overall this is a very well executed drama.  It's really nice to see how Lee Joon Gi has perfected his craft.  I really appreciated that for the most part the characters are written quite intelligently.  You won't have to deal with too many noble idiots.  The last episode was a bit of a drag and slightly disappointing and cliche, but that was my own real gripe with the show.  To me, this drama is still very deserving of the watch. (11/12)

  • Nobody Knows

    10. Nobody Knows

    Korean Drama - 2020, 16 episodes

    9.0

Nobody Knows is an incredibly paced and well written drama.  This is not your typical procedural crime drama where you have a new culprit every week.  This drama artfully weaves a well constructed story about connections and the people involved.  Episode after episode, Nobody Knows manages to keep upping the juicy suspense that kept me on the edge of my seat.  (11/17)

  • Stranger Season 2

    11. Stranger Season 2

    Korean Drama - 2020, 16 episodes

    8.0

To be expected from Screenwriter Lee Soo Yeon, Stranger 2 is such a tightly written and executed drama. The quality of the story it conveys and the production value sets it in a class of its own. Each episode is laden with clues as if methodically weaves through the story as it crescendos to its epic conclusion.

This story is a slow burn. In a lot of ways its pacing seems more uneven than the first season. I often felt as I was watching this that if i looked away for a minute I would miss something critical to the plot. I have found that this drama demands undivided attention to follow so much of the nuance. Similar to the first season this drama is extremely dialog heavy. Honestly, I have to admit I struggled with the pacing throughout. Even considering the pacing, I believe it’s still worthwhile to watch this one.  The writing really is unmatched.  I love the intricate story season 2 delivers on showcasing a face off between prosecutors and the police department.  It was great to see Prosecutor Hwang Si Mok and Detective Han Yeo Jin together again chasing down corruption!  What an epic duo!

If they ever create a third season, I will certainly show up for it! (11/23)

  • Hyena

    12. Hyena

    Korean Drama - 2020, 16 episodes

    7.0

Hyena offers a fresh take on your standard legal drama.  This drama is not afraid to laugh at itself and lavishes in being over the top in its execution and delivery.  Where this drama really shines though is in its leading portrayals of Jung Geum Ja and Yoon Hee Jae.  Kim Hye Soo brings so much life and fervor to the role with her fierce and unrelenting nature.  In contrast, Yoon Hee Jae is a complete sweetheart under a slightly stuffy and polished exterior that will be able to melt any heart.  I loved how complex and multi-layered these characters were.  If you are looking for a funny and smart legal drama, give this one a go!  (11/25)

  • Kingdom Season 2

    13. Kingdom Season 2

    Korean Drama - 2020, 6 episodes

    7.0

Kingdom delivers a well produced story with a lot of hell raising action and political intrigue.  I particularly liked how this season centers around the theme of blood, and boy, is it able to deliver a blood bath.  Oh the scenes I am not able to unsee.

This is not typically a genre I go for so just picking it up is a bit of a commitment for me.  Even though it may not be typically something I gravitate to, I do think it is worthwhile to give this one a try.  The quality and production value are incredible with this one.  For those who like dark thriller and horror tones, this is a must!  Hoping they will be able to continue on this story in a third season.  (11/27)

  • Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol

    14. Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol

    Korean Drama - 2020, 16 episodes

    6.0

This drama has a incredibly cute setup with adorable leads to match. Yet Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol let me with a tooth ache from all the nonsensical plot devices they threw in the eleventh hour of the show. I can only recommend if you are looking for something overwhelming cute and are willing to brace yourself for the sloppy choices this drama delivered on in the end. Use extreme caution. (11/29)

  • Tokyo Tarareba Musume 2020

    15. Tokyo Tarareba Musume 2020

    Japanese Special - 2020, 1 episode

    8.0

I love how easy it was to get caught back up with these characters again.  The three leading ladies are just as lovable.  I really appreciated how they addressed life’s desires and dreams and how they are always changing as we get older.  This is a solid special.  My only gripe would be it was too brief.  Then again, I’m one that would watch a whole second season featuring these three.  (11/29)

  • Tale of the Nine-Tailed

    16. Tale of the Nine-Tailed

    Korean Drama - 2020, 16 episodes

    4.0

Overall, this drama is pretty average. It had a fun premise and setup, but I quickly grew a little bored with the story. The characters seems kind of one dimensional and the way the story unfolded was cliche and predictable. Somewhere in the middle, I disconnected with the story and stopped caring about the characters entirely. Maybe I just struggle with fantasy plots. I probably need to take this as a note to not engage with every hyped fantasy drama.

Was it just me or was the ending really dumb? Wondering why I watched this … Here I am scratching my head trying to figure out what I just watched …

I do have to say Lee Dong Wook is always nice eye candy. He doesn’t disappoint, even if his character has a predictable story. (12/4)

  • Start-Up

    17. Start-Up

    Korean Drama - 2020, 16 episodes

    5.0

I feel like this drama was unable to follow through on its true potential.  I think that’s why I’m underwhelmed and disappointed.

I am still trying to figure out how Park Hye Ryun could make a character as deep as Han Ji Pyeong and leave all that opportunity on the table.  This was probably my favorite character that she’s ever written and Kim Seon Ho really brought color to this character through the drama.

The weakest part of this drama was the romance and Nam Joo Hyuk’s green acting.  Thus I never really understood or believed the romantic attraction between Seo Dal Mi and Nam Do San.  The drama’s focus on the love arc ended up detracting from all the very viable storylines viewers actually cared about whether that was Han Ji Pyeong, the relationship between the two sisters, or the focus on young people chasing their dreams.  All were placed on the back burner to the romance storyline.

Regardless, I feel like if you consider yourself a Kim Seon Ho fan, this drama is a must.  He carried this drama all by himself and his scenes with Kim Hae Sook were always incredibly moving.  Great job, Kim Seon Ho!  Looking forward to your next project! (12/6)

  • Imawa no Kuni no Alice

    18. Imawa no Kuni no Alice

    Japanese Drama - 2020, 8 episodes

    8.0

Well that was quite a ride!  It took a bit of time to get into the rhythm of the drama, but once it gets started it’s nonstop.  The drama is overall fast paced and clever, even if it can sometimes rely too heavily on predictable dystopian, survival game plot lines.  This was fun! (12/12)

  • Extraordinary You

    19. Extraordinary You

    Korean Drama - 2019, 32 episodes

    6.0

This drama had such a unique premise and setup.  I really enjoyed how this drama explores how its characters would react to finding out they reside in a drama and their fates are controlled by the writer.  I really enjoyed how this drama was willing to explore popular cliches in romantic comedies.  The drama was at its best when it was making fun of itself.  This was overall fun, but in the later episodes, the melo got to me a bit.  In addition, the depth of the high school characters seemed sometimes one dimensional and a bit limiting at times.  (12/9)

  • Search: WWW

    20. Search: WWW

    Korean Drama - 2019, 16 episodes

    9.0

Search: WWW is such a unique and sophisticated drama.  Its focus of three career driven female protagonists makes it quite a stand out.

I loved how this drama portrayed such sensitive male leads depicted by Jang Ki Yong and Lee Jae Wook.  Their male characters were particularly sweet and dashing.  I have such a soft spot for male leads that fall in love first.

This drama has great story telling all the way through to the finale.  I found the finale surprisingly moving.  Even so, I think more often than not, I showed up for the romance though.  Maybe on a second watch, I will pay more attention to the business story line, but the sweet men in this story were a bit too distracting.

Search: WWW has everything a high quality drama should encompass.  It’s the whole package:  a great and compelling storyline, strong, well written characters and sweet, heart warming romance.  (12/20)

  • W.H.Y.

    21. W.H.Y.

    Korean Drama - 2018, 10 episodes

    5.0

A short, sweet story about first love and learning to love again. (12/20)

  • My First First Love

    22. My First First Love

    Korean Drama - 2019, 8 episodes

    7.0

This was a very sweet story about youth and  love.  I really liked how this show was broken up into two seasons.  I'm looking forward to the second season. (12/22)

  • #Remolove: Futsuu no Koi wa Jado

    23. #Remolove: Futsuu no Koi wa Jado

    Japanese Drama - 2020, 10 episodes

    4.0

I appreciated the premise since this drama tried to broach life during coronavirus.  The drama overall was cute, light and funny.  I personally did not love this drama.  I think I just need to take this as a note, that I don’t really appreciate Haru’s acting.  The characters she tends to portray are a bit over the top for my taste, and I often find her acting distracting.  (12/26)

  • 30-sai made Dotei Da to Mahotsukai ni Nareru rashii

    24. 30-sai made Dotei Da to Mahotsukai ni Nareru rashii

    Japanese Drama - 2020, 12 episodes

    6.0

Overall, this drama was cute and easy to watch.  I didn't quite understand all the hype around this drama.  Though the romance was cute, the drama as the whole suffers from a number of uneven plot lines. (12/26)

  • Shanai Marriage Honey

    25. Shanai Marriage Honey

    Japanese Drama - 2020, 7 episodes

    4.0

Cute marriage contract setup with a pretty cast but has little substance in both plot and character development department. Rather unimpressed by the airhead heroine role. I thought dramaland had progressed past these types of female leads. Probably need to reconsider picking up late night dramas. (12/27)

  • My First First Love Season 2

    26. My First First Love Season 2

    Korean Drama - 2019, 8 episodes

    5.0

This was a cute continuation of the first series, but it lost a lot of my interest by the end.  I grew tired of the missing family plot points.  Additionally the precious love triangle went a little stale towards the end.  (12/27)

  • Avengers Social Club

    27. Avengers Social Club

    Korean Drama - 2017, 12 episodes

    8.0

This was a fun and interesting female centered plot.  Avengers Social Club follows three women as they band together to deliver a special recipe of vengeance on their foes. The three women and their children keep this drama upbeat, entertaining and surprisingly funny.  (12/29)
