Kim Soo Hee (now Yoo Son Hee), known professionally as Sonya, is a South Korean singer and musical actress. She graduated from Kyungwoon University and made her debut in 1999 with the single album "Sonya All Best". Her father is an American former soldier of African and Spanish descent and her mother is Korean but she was born and raised in South Korea. Her family struggled economically and she grew up in poverty after her father abandoned them when she was 3 and her mother died when she was 8 and had to be raised by her maternal grandmother. She had to work at a factory during her high school years and she received her education there. In 1998 her story appeared on "Park Sang Won's Beautiful TV Face" and, in 2003, her father made contact with her but later began demanding money and she decided to cutoff all contact with him and changed her last name to her mother's last name, Yoo. Since she has focused her career on musicals, she has made very few TV appearances but, in 2020, she surprisingly entered "Sing Again" as a contestant but, sadly, was eliminated in the 1st round. In 2021, she opened a Youtube channel called "Talk Sonya" where she discussed emotional topics and also sings. She is currently managed by Lionheart Entertainment.
