After graduating from the Theater Arts Academy in 1998, Tamura and nine of his classmates founded the theater company ONEOR8. He has garnered attention in the small theater community for his work as a playwright and director, handling both roles for all productions.
Following the closure of the theater venue THEATER/TOPS in 2009, Tamura expanded his activities beyond his theater company's productions. He began providing scripts and directing for productions by other theater companies, various production groups, and commercial theatrical productions produced by Toho.
