Yamamoto Kajiro was a Japanese film director, actor, screenwriter, and essayist born in Ginza Uomenomachi, Tokyo, Japan. He used the pseudonyms Hirato Nobusuke (平戸延介) and Hirata Nobusuke (平田延介) when writing scripts or debuting as an actor.

During his time at the Keio University Faculty of Business and Commerce, he happened to appear in a film and made his acting debut in the 1920 film "A Midsummer Night's Dream." He dropped out of Keio University and entered the film industry. However, this caused him to be disowned by his parents, and he used the money from his severance pay to establish the "Nameless Film Association" in 1922 and appeared in films himself.

Subsequently, he joined the Nikkatsu Corporation, worked as an assistant director, and also wrote scripts.

After the war, he left Toho Studios due to the Toho conflict but returned in 1951.

He married actress Matsuyama Keiko (松山恵子) in 1955. Their first son, Yamamoto Kazumasa (山本雅), was born, but they divorced two years later.

Additionally, in the 1960s, he served as the director of Toho's acting school and mentored younger talents.

He passed away in 1974 due to arteriosclerosis.
