Koki is also a designer, being a very artistic guy. In many of their concerts, he wore clothes designed and sewn by himself. For the concert "Queen of Pirates" in 2008, he bought a large white sweater, pants and a hat that he stitched and "redesigned" to make them better suited for the concert.
He co-hosted the variety show KAT-TUN and led the radio program "KAT-TUN Style" along with Junnosuke Taguchi.
He has a younger brother named Tanaka Juri, a member of the boy group SixTONES
He graduated from Horikoshi High School, and eventually went to study at Josai International University, but he quit halfway.
On May 24, 2017 he was arrested for marijuana possession during a traffic stop, despite claiming the cannabis in his car were not his he was tested positive to the drug and was detained for 2 weeks while investigations were ongoing. He was eventually released from jail on June 7, 2017. On June 30, 2017 it was reported that he will not be prosecuted for marijuana possession charges as the police were not able to obtain enough evidence to prosecute him.
On February 24, 2022, he was arrested by police in Nagoya for alleged possession of methamphetamine. He has denied the allegations, and was quoted as saying that he did not know anything about the drugs. On June 20, 2022 he was sentenced to 20 months in prison, suspended for 3 years.
On June 29, 2022 he was found acting unnaturally outside of Kashiwa Station around 10:00 pm. Upon receiving a search warrant, police found a plastic bag containing crystal powder between his right hip and pants. Later, it was confirmed that the powder he was carrying was stimulants.
