His brother-in-law had an executive position in singer Rain's company, so he was admitted without an audition. After a very short training period, he made his debut in October 2009 as the group's main rapper, vocalist and maknae with their first single album, "Just BLAQ". They were managed by J. Tune Camp (제이튠캠프) and were heavily promoted by both the agency and by Rain, who often included them as performers during his concerts and fan meetings, so they enjoyed some success.
The agency began facing financial issues and rumors of embezzlement, and with the departure of two members in late 2014, the group kept promoting itself as a trio for a bit longer until it went on an official indefinite hiatus. They have never released a statement of disbandment but the group has not released any material or performed together since early 2015.
He enlisted for his mandatory military service on July 14, 2016, and was discharged on July 13, 2018. After being released, he opened his own YouTube channel with his sisters and he occasionally appears in other variety shows.
