Wakamiya Chuzaburo

While still attending commercial school, he began treading the boards in theater productions, with his debut stage performance dating back to 1927. Around this time, he also joined the Elan Vital Small Theater. In 1933, he moved to Tokyo and enrolled in the P.C.L. Film and Theater Research Institute. Joining the Zenshinza theater troupe in 1934, he appeared on stage under the name Ichikawa Shinsaburo (市川進三郎). In 1941, he joined Toho and thereafter pursued his career under his real name, Wakamiya Chuzaburo.
After serving in the military in North China, he became a freelancer after the war. In 1969, he changed his stage name to Wakamiya Daiu (若宮大祐). He remained unmarried throughout his life.
