Song Bok Hee, known professionally as Song Hae, was a South Korean television music show host, comedian and singer. He was born in Chaeryŏng County in present-day North Korea. In 1949, he attended Haeju Arts School where he majored in Vocal Music as he was supposed to be an opera singer. In 1955, he debuted in the Changgong musical troupe. During the Korean War, he fled via boat to the south, arriving in the port of Busan. He later decided used the stage name, Hae (meaning sea), as a memory of this voyage. He served as a military signaler for the South and he claimed to have transmitted the message for the ceasefire of the Korean War. In 1988, at the age of 61, he became the MC of the show "National Singing Contest" (also knows as "Korea Sings"), a position he held until his death in 2022 becoming Korea's oldest broadcaster. He married in 1953 and had a son who was killed in a bike accident at age 20. His wife passed away in 2018.
On June 8, 2022, Song Hae died at his home in the Gangnam District of Seoul at age 95. He was cremated and his ashes were placed in the family grave in Daegu.
