No more Spirit Lamp Please.
I am a big fan of Zhao Lu Si and this is my final drama of hers that I haven’t seen. I’m very surprised that this drama was released in 2020 because it doesn’t seem like a 2020 drama. It feels very dated. I thought Zheng Ye Cheng was fine in Sassy Princess, but for some reason, I didn’t quite get his character in A love of Thousand Years.
A 30 episode melodrama isn’t long enough to warrant the emotions and feels for what the plot was trying to tell. I’ve NEVER like a revenge plot storyline, it usually works out if that isn’t the main driving point of the story. I thought the FL only had tunnel vision and her quest for vengeance was very trying. At episode 20 I was kind of getting fed up with it.
Sometimes a simple conversation or letting the other person know if they do this, then this will happen could solve all problems. BUT that would be too simple right?
The story building of the drama is fairly weak and the whole idea behind the Spirit Lamp was just confusing and I felt like random things were told to drive the plot. Oh, if you do ABC then this will happen, BUT only if DFG doesn’t happen first. You are like what?
I didn’t really feel the chemistry between the leads. I think it’s because I didn’t get any world building on their love of a “thousand years”. You start the drama and boom you are to believe he’s been loving her all this time? Where is the build up? It also didn’t help that a different girl was casted for the previous life, so I didn’t know what was going on.
I feel like this drama is good if you are a fan of the stars and if you like short historical pieces. I didn’t really care for the plot, costumes or how heavy the drama was.
