Friends

Everything is such a mess and I'm emotionally exhausted LOL

I got so grossed out every single time the notion of So and his half sister/wife having kids was brought up. Disgusting.I'm still unclear on why the queen hated her son so much. Was it because of the scars? How does that make sense? And while I get his petty reaction to try for once to keep his mother to himself, it was an awful thing he did to his younger brother, not letting him say goodbye to their dying mother. This is spiraling out of control so fast, I have no idea where it'll end. With how emotionally unstable So is acting (what's up with that throne making people go nuts?), it's a dangerous game Soo is playing. She feels trapped, but if she runs, So will burn the world down to try and get her back. Not to mention it'll be Jung's death sentence.

We need a second season!

I'd been tearing up throughout the episode, but after Soo died, and especially when So saw her urn, I just felt like bawling my eyes out. Lee Joon Gi. Duuuude. You didn't have to go that hard! So's heartbreak felt so true and all-encompassing that it jumped straight out of the screen and into my tear ducts. And then that awful tease of an ending! I wanted So's reincarnation to meet up with Ha Jin SOOOOO BAD! I'm so upset they left us hanging!I'm gonna hold out hope for a second season where everyone's reincarnations meet up in Ha Jin's time and they live happily ever after. Wook realises he loves his wife in time (and she gets cured thanks to modern medicine), my sweet baby Eun finds happiness with badass Soon Doek, Beak Ah and Woo Hee overcome the obstacles standing between them, and of course we'll have to find Jung a fitting love interest. And So and Ha Jin get to live out an epic love story. It needs to happen!

I'm hooked!

Jin and "Yours" brought me here. But damn was that a good first episode! This show is visually stunning. All those nature shots were gorgeous. And the directing, editing and sound mixing were exceptional too. The fact that they managed to create and keep such an intense level of tension running throughout the majority of the episode is amazing. And I don't know how he heck this was filmed, but damn those actors were put through the ringer! Climbing up a mountain, in the dark, in the rain and mud? This whole episode looked hella physically demanding.I love the idea of serialized episodes with a common running thread, and that's where I'm guessing this is going. We have to bridge the gap between 2018 and 2020. Very nice idea to use a time jump and a traumatic, life altering event to keep the audience hooked and engaged. I'm dying to find out what happened to Yi Kang and Hyun Jo, but doing different missing people each episode will also keep the high stakes going.I'm here for that weird, slightly paranormal element! I'm excited to see where the show will take us, I'm sure it's gonna be a wild ride.

Dissapointed

Ok, so, a few thoughts:1) The place where they filmed the dragon scenes with the viewing deck and the green water was so beautiful.2) I'm sure they did the best they could with what they had, but all the CGI was very cringe. Honestly, it looked old (like something that would have been done 15 years ago) and low quality.3) That final showdown was both confusing and extremely underwhelming.4) Whatever happened to the death bell prophecy? We spent so many episodes talking about that, and in the end they forgot about it?I'd understood Seon Mi would have contained the dragon inside herself (as per the "you need to empty yourself" directive last episode), and then, because of their inescapable killed/killer fate, Oh Gong would have to be the one to kill her to get rid of the black dragon. I still don't fully understand why they didn't go that route and instead chose a much lamer, much less heartbreaking one.

Zero medical research done

Not a doctor here, but I'm pretty sure attaching a hand back isn't just a matter of orthopedics. You'd need a surgeon specialized in vascular surgery and someone who knows nerves. Maybe even a plastic surgeon. Also, that surgery probably takes a really long time. It's not like our bodies are made of Legos that you can just snap back together if they come off. And the fluids. I'm sure you'd need blood for an operation like that. Platelets. Something other than saline at the very least. Why did the writers go the most outrageous route possible? They could just given the guy a bad fracture. Something exposed, maybe. With no vascular or nerve damage. But something that would have required ortho expertise to fix. I feel like very little research went into writing this drama. The only medical knowledge I have is from TV shows and I'm appalled at how utterly unbelievable that whole sequence was. I can't even imagine what an actual doctor would have to say about this show.

BEST KISS EVER

That was such a fantastic kiss! Standing ovation to whomever choreographed that scene. I was amazed at how spontaneous it felt. And, of course, the actors did a great job as well, you could almost feel the relief at finally surrendering to the force pulling them together . I love kiss scenes that are organic and realistic. 10/10.

So frustrated rn

Dude. Osteosarcoma? That's a lot to throw in and get resolved within the last two 30-min episodes of a show. Also, Eun Jae is insane. Biopsying her own leg? That's just not right. And I can't believe she's not telling anyone! 39 episodes later and she still hasn't learnt to seek support when she needs it and that she can't actually handle everything, all the time by her self.

So rushed.

They should have given the whole sick-baby plot less time, and used that to develop the cancer plotline a bit more. It feels careless how they did it. Like it was a last minute decision. Also, for such an aggressive cancer, either Eun Jae's treatment was very conservative or she was extremely lucky not to lose her hair. Just put a head scarf on her, a little white make up and make her look actually sick.

Go away Joon

Oh, Ha Neul, you poor little sad boi, still wearing your couple's ring. And, let's be honest, Joon's behavior towards Joo Ah was way too flirty to be considered only friendly. I mean, everyone in their friend group clearly thought there was something between them, and maybe the most damning piece of evidence, he initiated the kiss when she confessed her feelings to him. Boys don't kiss girls they think of as a little sister. That'd be gross.Lastly, I have to applaud that kiss! I've grown to expect really sub-par kissing scenes from Idols (nothing beyond very chaste pecks), but here Jae Hyun went for it and did a more convincing job than Hye Su, so bravo!

Lots of mixed emotions this episode

I'm happy for Soon Deok, but sad for my poor baby Eun.And then there's the whole mess with Soo and So. He opened his heart to her after being closed off, keeping his distance and mistrusting people for most of his life and not even a few hours later she's already pulling away from him (I'm so disappointed the show's first kiss had to take place under those less than ideal circumstances—forcing a kiss on someone who is clearly not receptive is icky). And she's justified in distancing herself, because she's terrified of him and what he's (allegedly) going to do. I get both their sides, which makes it all the more heartbreaking. I wish he'd gotten at least of few moments of peace and quiet with her. He's suffered so much, I want him to be happy. 😭As for the villains, I'm glad this drama doesn't have the two factions of bearded, older men plotting and scheming to overthrow the other side, but Prince Guyliner and Queen Yoo are such terrible villains. They're always openly plotting and discussing their plans to kill the Crown Prince (everyone from the King down knows they wanna take the throne), so it's insane they haven't been sentenced to death for treason.Oh, and Mr. Arsty Prince found himself a love interest! It's gonna be interesting how the revelation that she's a princess will come about. And this show certainly loves its enemies to friends/lovers trope. Almost every pairing has gone that route except for Soo and Wook (oh, poor Wook, I'm already sad for him that he's not gonna end up getting the girl 😢)

Taking the (mostly) good wth the (little) bad

Love at first sight take 2! Let's go!Bravo on the casting choice to play the Prince. Park Eun Bin was very much a boss bitch in the few scenes she had this episode, and I love how because she has more of a "tough" look instead of being cutesy and delicate, she can convincingly play a "pretty boy".It's not often in cross-dressing dramas that we get actors who have a suitable look to actually pull off playing someone of the opposite sex. So I'm really happy and excited about that. But I have to say, the Crown Princess' death was so lame and lazy. Either introduce her being sick from earlier in the episode, or make her look sick while on her death bed. As it was, her death very much felt like more of an after thought than anything else. They just threw the scene in the middle of the episode. No set up, context or anything. Kinda disappointing.

Why?

I kinda hated the whole intro sequence. It gave me such strong Hallmark movie vibes. Total cringefest. Why the heck did they pick that music? It was awful. But, to be completely honest, there was something in how this was filmed and edited that made it feel really dated overall, and like something that would have been aired on Disney channel ten years ago. It was very strange and unlike any k-drama I've ever watched before.Another weird thing was that they used an instrumental from the OST of My Sassy Girl (I remember it vividly because I always thought the opening notes were better suited to The Mummy than a Joseon drama). All in all, a first episode filled with questionable choices, but I'm such a sucker for idol dramas that I'll keep watching anyway.

Where is this going?

If So Rin doesn't end up becoming a member of Dahlia, then I really don't know why that story line even exists. All their scenes are either the four girls walking around the company, or practicing the same choreography over, and over and over again. No group in the history of k-pop probably spent as much time in a single choreo as these girls have. The MVP of this show for me is Ye Seung. Her frustration is my frustration. And the playground kid takes the runner-up spot. The show is almost done and I'm still not sure why both Luice and Si Woo are so infatuated with So Rin. She's like the typical YA heroine that isn't anything special but somehow manages to charm and be loved by every single person around her. I wish they would have shown more of her struggle and heartbreak over having to give up her dream of becoming an idol because of the tinnitus. That want super underutilized and would have been massively helpful in fully fleshing out the character.

Terrible ending

So the Dahlia storyline was utterly pointless unless it was added just to create a role for Lucy. And what a cringe worthy ending. Your two idol friends having to come in and help you when you mess-up on stage is something that happens mid-way through a storyline. They provide support and act like a safety net when you're "finding your sea legs" so to speak. Ending the show with the guys showing up and singing most of the song was a horrible way to wrap the story-up. It made So Rin look so bad. Like she has no chance in hell of cutting it in the idol industry and doesn't really deserve to be there. Also, I can't believe we spent 14 episodes dealing with all that love triangle BS, for the writers to go "nevermind, pretend none of that happened" in the last episode.

Cool premise.

I liked the preternatural element of Gye Hoon being able to "feel" Da Hyun (not yet 100% confirmed), mixed with the murder/mystery plot elements. Very interesting.I went into the show blindly, not knowing who the leads were, but as soon as the narration started, I automatically recognized Yeo Jin Goo's voice. It's crazy because I've only seen two of his dramas (Hotel Del Luna and the robot boyfriend one), but there's something so particular about his voice that's impossible not to recognize him. Also, what a treat to see Moon Ga Young. I loved her in True Beauty. And the dark hair looks fantastic on her!
