It's very entertaining but kinda lame
The show is very fun to watch, it's so funny and i love the MC Nam Hanjun. His personality is great and I understand why he's the main character. If you only want an entertaining, light-hearted show to watch and laugh along, this one is perfect for you but there's nothing thrilling or plot-twisting ab it. Like, i already kinda figured out the villian from ep 3, it's quite obvious. And many details are kinda lame and like wtf... but overall, it's not an amazing, mind-blowing show but I had a great time watching it. Would still recommend people to try it out.Was this review helpful to you?
Have a fresh way of dealing with such a heavy topic!
TW: Mentioned su1c1d3.The show is about a team of two grim reapers who tryna save suicidal people. Junwoong is a living human but he accidentially meddled in their business and got in a coma. When he was in a coma, he decided to become the third member of this team.
Honestly I didn't expect to love this show this much! It has been out for a while but I didn't hear anyone raved about it so I was just whatever although I saw netflix recommended it to me. I got bored one day and decided to just watch one ep, you know, see how it goes.
I got hooked from the first two eps, and then binge-watched it in two days. I couldn't stop it was so good and so refreshing! I saw reviews on here saying that they didn't like that Junwoong didn't have a back story despite being the MC. Personally I found it so refreshing! I'm tired of MCs with complex, miserable backgrounds. I mean, cuz almost everyone is like that already. It's so good to finally have a MC who's just straight up a BIG golden retriever in and out I was crushing on him sooo hard. He's so thoughtful and kind and positive and like dumb but kinda wholesome. I lovee the whole main cast.
The topic they chose was so heavy but they executed it pretty well. I am a suicide survivor myself and although i don't think they fully captured the complexity of the inner world of suicidal people, nor did they actually suggest a good way to support suicidal people, but they didn't disrespect. Like, they didn't talk about it lightly, like it's no big deal, but at the same time, they didn't make the show too dark that it couldn't reach the heart of people. It feels like how good outsiders think ab suicidal people, which I think is good bc i dont think ppl would understand if the story was written from the suicidal people's pov. There are many encouraging quotes, personally I like it when Mr.Park said humans are supposed to still move on even when they're in pain and misery kinda. I feel like many people can relate to the stories (although not me but it's really difficult to influence me so it doesn't count) and feel a bit more at ease by them. Oh and it's kinda comforting to feel that I'll prolly be alright even after I leave this world one day. I love how the loveline was kinda unexpected as well (although I could tell very early on but still, I love how it was very subtle). It's a very healing show overall. Really fun, everyone is so nice and wholesome, especially the big boss lady she's so kind and wise i love her so much. Idk what more to say it's the best kdrama i have watched lately. If you don't like kdramas that focus on romance, and you just want something fun and easy to watch, nothing too intense, you gonna love this. Kinda has the vibe of Attorney Woo (maybe even better), minus the loveline.
The latter half of the show is a bit rushed, but it's still okay. I love how none of them could really stay out of others' business or be professional they just had to get involved lmao. All of them just care so much it's wholesome.
I'll end my review with a quick comparison cuz the MCs feel like different types of animals:
Mr. Park: A black panther
Ms. Koo: A (strict) bunny
Assistant Lim: A grumpy cat
The big boss lady: A bear
Junwoong: As said above, a BIG puppy
They're all so amazing. Junwoong is prolly my fav character but tbh i like everyone.
Just watch it it's really entertaining but so underrated! I may watch it again prolly years later.

A MUST-WATCH! MY COMFORT SHOW
Idc what others have to say. This is my comfort show. It's been 4 years since the first time i watched it, and since then, i've rewatched it 5 times i reckon. Whenever I am stressed, I reach out for it. It calms me down. And i feel like i can write a whole essay of how this show is great, despite the problematic parts that others have pointed out. So this will be that instead of a simple review, and people will need to watch it to understand. This will be about the last few eps. I love how Maki kinda has avoidant attachment style so he's always tried to push Haruta away and decided things on his own. He's afraid to get hurt and he's afraid he's not good enough. I feel his pain every time because I also have avoidant attachment style.
Many people hated Haruta because he's indecisive and all. But Kurosawa (the boss) knew Haruta would rejected him. He knew Haruta had never loved him, that's why he never gave Haruta a chance to say no. He proposed publicly, he made the wedding as extravagant as possible so Haruta could not say no because Kurosawa knew he would. In a way, he kinda used Haruta because he knew Haruta's personality (Haruta respected hierarchy, he respected his boss so it's difficult for him to hurt Kurosawa's pride). And while Maki pushed Haruta away selfishly, Kurosawa loved Haruta selfishly. He wanted Haruta by his side without thinking about the consequences like Maki did. He only wanted to be with Haruta, he didn't care about the rest, for him or Haruta. Both of them were selfish, none actually thought about Haruta's feelings.
At the wedding, Haruta said yes when saying the vow. He also told Takegawa (the glasses senior) that he liked Kurosawa. He prolly did, he prolly meant it when he said yes. He prolly could see himself living with Kurosawa his whole life. He liked him so so much, but just platonically. That's why when the pastor asked him to kiss Kurosawa, he freaked out because he realised he only had romantic feelings for Maki, and marriage has to be with someone you love romantically.
The show isn't perfect at all, but it's my comfort show. It's fun, easy to watch, light-hearted but not shallow or cheesy. I love it so much and honestly, I will do anything for it to have season 3 (sorry I haven't watched season 2 because yeah, hardcore Harumaki shipper here haha).

I'm too excited!!!
Ossan's Love 2018 was one of my fav BLs of all time i lost counts of how many times I have rewatched it. The movie was cute as well but i thought it couldn't top the series (didn't watch the one without maki though because i'm a huge maki protector and harumaki stan but i also really like haruta i can't choose they're both adorable!!!). It's very unlikely imo that season 2 of any series could be better than season 1 so I had 0 expectation although i was very anticipated knowing there would be a sequel series. But OMG i had been binge-watching Ossan's Love Returns the whole day and had to stop myself bc I need to sleep. IT'S SO GOOD and dare I say even better than season 1! I'm so excited i have to write this comment although i'm only half-way through i love harumaki so so so much i wanna throw up their relationship is the ultimate green flag ? it's the same good acting from all very popular and experienced actors/actresses, top-notch comical humour with better story writing and production AND THE SECOND COUPLE omg the pain they are bringing me ? it's so good i defo will rewatch this once i finish it!!Was this review helpful to you?
