This show is so okay. Not too bad but not good either. The only other adaptation i have watched is the Korean version and i watched it when i was a kid so I dont really remember what happened. So this review is solely just on the drama and not comparison.

Firstly, the cast is good. The acting is good especially the actor of Dao Ming Si and Hua Zi Lei. Considering they are new to this industry, I think they did a great job in portraying their character. I also like Shen Yue who did a beautiful job as Shan Cai. However, I don't feel the chemistry between Shan Cai and Dao Ming Si (oh boy people are going to bash me for saying that).

Moving on to the plot... I so sorry it was bad. The characters are so unlikable (except for Hua Zi Lei). Maybe because i watched so may dramas, I feel the development for the characters here are a bit weak and very 1 dimensional. Out of all the characters, why is Dao Ming Si and Shan Cai the most immature ones. All they do is fight and fight. In addition, in the middle of the show, it felt like they added a side plot which gave no development to the main story. I felt very draggy.

The music was good so no complaints.

Overall, not my style of drama to watch. However, i do think that most youngsters will like this (btw I'm still in my teens but i didnt liked it).

A Heartbreaking Wholesome drama

This drama is filled with careful planning of the character and the plot. The ML is the ultimate prefect man u can get just that u can never get him (U will know y when u watch the drama). My ML is such a responsibly man for the country but that will also be what led him to his downfall :( The family relations among the ML and the 10 orphans that he lived with was also very wholesome. Everyone supports each other well :)

My FL is such a cute sweetheart even the mighty ML will fall for her. The FL seems to be a cute and innocent girl at the start but once she starts talking, you will realised that she is actually very smart and sensible.

However, I really hated the 2nd ML to the core(which means he did a good job). The 2nd ML is actually quite pitiful but his actions really make me erase my sympathy to him.

Everyone should know this will be a tragedy and u will cry ur hearts out at the ending..... I am so happy there is a part 2 to this drama in the modern world. Hopefully that will help to heal my broken heart for this couple.

Great at the first half... so so after that

It started off very well! With the ML having such a back story and the FL being a potential support for the ML growth, I expected a lot from this drama. The plot of how the FL chases the ML is pretty cute and I also like how the ML teases the FL after he got more comfortable with her. I was soo into the climax when they had a big misunderstanding which was no one's fault, just a series of misfortunate events...

Sadly, the plot started to go downhill at the later part of the drama. It became just a low EQ cliche drama whereby the ML is rich and possessive of the FL..... Nothing much to comment about the plot at the back.

Overall plot wise, I would 100% watch this for the beginning and middle of the plot and just bare with it at the back to complete the drama.

The music of this drama though!!! I love it! Recommend listening to the ending of Crush!!!

Family means everything (I will leave it for you to interpret whether its good or bad)

This is a family focused drama with romance as a main side focus. The FL mother is honestly the star of the show. Great acting!! (to the point I really cant stand her but for Yang Zi, I watched till the end).

Lets, start with plot. As mentioned above, this is a family focused drama. It talks a lot about values and "filial piety". Coming from a different background from this drama, I had a very hard time understanding the FL mother behavior. The FL is a people pleaser: pleasing her mother and her ex bf. Essentially, eventually she also got tired of it all and this drama follow the route of how she grows. (did she though... maybe?)

I actually did enjoy how the romance part of this drama played out. From the FL ex to the ML, the transition of how the FL moved on was smoothed. Good chemistry between the FL & ML.

Conclusion:
This drama is not for everyone. A lot of Chinese audience seem to enjoy this drama. But if u come from a different culture, the FL mother's behavior may boil ur blood and ruin ur enjoyment from watching this drama.

Side note: FL mother is the main role not Xu Kai! Once u watch the drama, u will understand what i mean.

Woman independence & Communication in a relationship

There are 2 main theme in this drama: surviving from adversity and romance

Excellent writing regarding the romance between the two leads. No BS between the both of them. Communication 10/10. Level of Maturity of the two leads 10/10. A romance story which will not kill your brain cells. (YAYYYYY)

I love how many character eventually grew stronger & mature over time. The plot was engaging and I liked how the Hua Family member became more independent and eventually had a ability to survive. Other than surviving, they also grew confidence and accepted their life.

Generally great acting. (Some ppl r saying the main leads acting could be better, but I think its fine. On the other hand, I find the actress who acted Shao Yao acting kindda off. I have seen her in My Journey to You and she was great there. Maybe she wasn't in her best condition here). The actor who acted as the emperor did a good job. Boiled my blood multiple times :)
