As my first ever review on mydramalist I would like to dedicate it to Ashes of Love as it is one of the best dramas I have ever watched.

Story: The plot of this show was absolutely remarkable. The character development shown is unlike any other drama I’ve watched before. Watching JinMi grow from a naive young woman to a mature woman brought so many laughs and so many tears all at once. The love story between JinMi and XuFeng was beautiful and tragic. I couldn’t have asked for a better story than this.

Acting/Cast: The cast is to die for. YangZi and DengLun have amazing chemistry. I’ve watched a couple of DengLun’s previous dramas like Because of You (also another great drama that I recommend checking out, but I ship DengLun with YangZi over SunYi), Princess Agents, and Sweet Dreams. Plus DengLun is super attractive and does such a great job at playing his character. YangZi on the other hand is a new actress for me. I’ve heard of her over the years but never tried to watch any of her work, but now I will definitely check them out and any future ones (same with DengLun). Also, let’s not forget LeoLuo who did a fabulous job at portraying RunYu. I got so frustrated and angry at his character yet also felt pity towards him at the same time, so I am stunned by how well LeoLuo portrayed his character. Also Kathy Chow, holy cow. I remeber watching her in The Legends of Condor Heroes 2008 and her character back then was a very sweet, gentle woman, so I was shocked to see her play TuYao. Never have I ever despised and hated a character like I have TuYao, so props to her on portraying a character so well. Plus, I must say the actor for moon immortal (my favorite and absolutely adorable side charater) XiaZhiYuan did such a great job for a new actor. He was able to make the moon immortal so loveable and you could also feel his pain when seeing JinMi and XuFeng apart. He was probably one of the most relatebale characters on the show.

Music: Words cannot even define how I feel about the OSTs. They’re absolutely beautiful and heart wrenching. Never have I loved any OSTs like I do with these. My favorite has to be “Unsullied” the directors played this song and all the other songs at the most perfect (aka heart wrenching) moments. Everytime I hear it I think about this beautiful couple and story. Also “Unparalleled in the World} duet version is just as great. Who doesn’t like an OST sung by the main two leads it just makes you love them even more. I remeber when I first saw the OST I was floored “they act AND they sing?” Makes it just that much better. The music used matches perfectly with the events going on and emphasizes the emotions.

Rewatch Value: I know with some dramas it’s unbearable to rewatch it. Been there before myself and it ain’t fun. But fear not this drama won’t cause that problem. There’s so many good, light hearted moments and sad moments you could put on an infinite loop and never get tired of. I myself am in the process of almost finishing rewatching it for the first time after finishing the drama only a week ago. That’s how much I love it and I’m not tired of it at all.

Overall: Highly recommend you watch, you will not be disappointed. To those of you who have watched only a few episodes and want to drop it because JinMi is being “stupid” or something along the lines of that. Just be patient, there’s a reason why it’s like that and it’s so you can see the character development and once you actually watch a few more episodes you won’t be able to stop. The drama is very well written and addictive and don’t worry its not a classic wuxia ending so you don’t have to be so disappointed and now want to invest time into the characters.
