a cute romance that turned into a drama

i loved this show more than i thought and the main reason for it was the cast and the top notch acting that i enjoyed a lot. specially jeremy xu(the male lead) he is an outstanding actor. i don't know why they didn't give him more lead roles, he is already 35...he is amazing in both acting and looks. his eyes are specially pretty and charming. the story was interesting enough but it had some major plot holes of course. the thing that i was so disappointed in was the fact that the story's focus was the love story between the leads but it turned into a drama so fast. i wanted to see more lovey dovey scenes as i am a hardcore historical/romance fan but the half of the show was drama over and over again. my heart hurts right now. after they reunited again i was looking forward to see at least another 2 episodes with lovey dovey scenes but nothing happened but overall i liked this show enough to watch it again from time to time when i feel like it.

story 8/10: the story is about a free spirited girl who falls head over heals for a commander(later general) and tries her best to stay with him. she does everything for him, even puts her own life on the line multiple times and that gets the male lead's attention and bit by bit he also falls for the joyful girl, little did they know that them being together in the palace brings them hell and that hell is about the king's shit show of not knowing how to handle himself nor the country and because of that the leads and the poor queen are all involved in a complete shit show. i loved the leads to be together so i was looking for their happy parts but all i did was cry after the cute beginning of the show. FL accidentally kills a prince who wanted to rape her in the meantime the ML wasn't there because he was at war and the king who loved the FL took this opportunity and made her marry her only in the eyes to save her, later the ML's life was on the line and the king was going to abandon him so FL begged him to save the ML and that had a condition from the king's side"be my wife for real" and she did that to save the person that she loved but she also said that"i only belong to one man and one man alone so i don't want anyone to touch me" she meant she belongs to the male lead and therefore the king accepted her condition as well...for 20 episodes the leads can't touch each other, they just look at each other and cry...my poor heart shattered into pieces. the idiot king uses them however they want and dies at the end so after 10 years they meet again and live a normal life together.i wanted some lovey dovey scenes at the end but we got none :(((((

acting 10/10: excellent acting and cast, the leads did an amazing job and i truly enjoyed the show because of them. specially the male lead jeremy jones xu^^

music 9/10: so pleasant and wonderful...i have the soundtracks on my phone so i listen to them every day these days.

rewatch value 8.5/10: i truly enjoyed the story so i will rewatch this AGAIN for sure.

overall 9/10: the only thing that bothered me so much was lowering the focus on the leads love story. i wanted more love story and less drama but oh well...i liked it regardless^^

an amazing ride

this is actually my first review that i'm writing in this website. anyway i loved this drama. despite having slow progress on the main plot it was so satisfying to see Xiao Yan struggle with everything. and i actually like his character development so much. it certainly needs a s2 for continuing the story and i can see it happening hopefully.
the story itself was great. the acting also was great. Leo Wu did a very amazing job that i was surprised at how young he is. he pulled off Xiao Yan's character nicely and showed us a great time watching him go through everything in his story. music was alright(suited for the story) and this drama is certainly worth rewatching.
it also had some flaws that i gave it 8.5...well i think that if they should have added to other characters backstories, also the story was jumping into different arcs so fast that sometimes i couldn't keep up with it but overall i had a great time watching this drama.

A somewhat ok drama

Well...i gave this a try because i heard so much about it from other people here and there and well, unfortunately it didn't meet my expectations but it was ok.

the story 6/10:

The story is interesting to begin with and you will immediately get attracted to it. You probably saw its description so you can tell how it is. A naive girl who wants to know about the outside world is the base of the plot. A demon son who is locked in the mountain and will later set free and The Fate which bring them together somehow.
First of all the story looked great at first but it has some major plot hols that you can see from the beginning and these plot holes are some huge minus for the plot like the story of the fml falling in love in the first place. They should have shown us some more past scenes where zhao yao is caring more deeply for mo qing and not skipped the parts where he found himself falling for her slowly. The first 2 3 episodes were good but it started to gi downhill so fast.
Zhao yao turns evil because of a betrayal of someone she loved for the first time. She strongly believed that what she is doing is ok but well i think her beliefs shouldn't have come from that luo ming xuan in the first place. This is where i think the plot lacked severely. Her beliefs should have came from her family or something. Not just because he said that"you should be a good person and be good to good people" or something along those lines. She should have had her own beliefs in the first place. Remember she was a naive child of some kind so she should have learned stuff from her own grandfather. Story goes by and she kills the golden god(was it?) And sealed him off. Now we have mo qing as a simple bodygaurd who loves her and stays like that for a long time. Her character changes to an evil bitch so fast and i didn't like it that much. He character crosses some lines and does some stupid things that i think it was not ok. Anyway she wanted a sword but it was the demon sword and it responded to mo qing only so he gets it and she supposedly dies. The betrayal she felt here wasn't justified thoroughly, she thought he was using her to get to the sword...on what ground base? Screen time was short here and they should have shown more scenes of why and what happened so that she felt betrayed by him and resented him like that. The story goes on...she is alive and in merged with another soul and human called zhi yan. Her character had some major developments at the end but we didn't get to see them. 20 wasteful episodes goes by and mo qing recognize her in the other human form and protects her bluh bluh. 10 more episodes and she finally see that he loved her and didn't betray her and so then she was confused and after some time that she sees how he is willing to throw his life away for her she also starts falling for him greatly. From ep 34 to 43-44 the story becomes great. She regains herself and now they have to fight the villains of the story together but the last 15 16 episodes lacked the hype that i wanted to see and the ending is supposedly a happy ending while he redeemed himself from his inner demon and hopefully goes back to her. Many people die like qin qian xian. He was my favorite character in the entire show and he killed himself to bring peace to the souls who were killed during a long running battle at the end.
Ep 1-2-3 and 34-43/44 were my favorite ones and the rest of the show could have been better in so many aspects such as screen writing.

Acting 8.5/10:

Acting was great. Xu kai and bai lu did an amazing job as individuals but unlike many the couple chemistry was off for me. Bai lu has a mature looking face and personality but xu kai has a handsome teenage face and they looked like siblings to me more than a couple. If you omit the kisses and couple like stuff then you can see what i mean(well maybe not who knows.).
Even though i love them both, i didn't feel the couple chemistry and that bugged me the entire show.(simply said:he is too cute for her and i felt like he was a younger brother of hers whom she takes care off).
Other actors and actresses did an amazing job too and i loved their acting as well.

MY PERSONAL OPINION: they could have chosen a well suited male lead for Bai Lu, she looks so better with more mature looking man.
I know they played in two different settings and even in their other drama i had the same opinion.

Music 7/10:

I liked the music, specially the opening. I listen to the OSTs from time to time.

Rewatch value 5/10:

If you're a fan of the actors or actresses then it has the rewatch value but if not then no. personally i won't be rewatching this even though i like xu kai.

Overall 7/10:
I had a good time watching this drama. It's worth a one time try at least.

And at the end...the plot developments were not like how i expected but it wasn't that bad either. Even though i didn't see the couple chemistry between the leads, they both acted amazing and i liked many of the side chatacters as well

once upon a time there was a king...

first of all people...i had such a high expectation for this one...like i went to search for the most high quality version of this drama...such a disappointing drama.

story: the horrible plot of this story contains useless messy storylines. a king whose family was killed by the hand of his own uncle for the sake of getting the throne. a girl out of nowhere comes and saves him with his team and drops her id card. The Ridiculous part is that he falls in love with her just because she saved his life, he doesn't know her or doesn't have any clue about how she is or who she is, the first time he sees her he is like:"i love you" WHY? WHY DUDE? so many plot holes everywhere. the villain is ruthless for no reason..he does a bunch of evil things for absolutely no reason...if i wanna point out all of them i should write an essay.

acting/cast: lee min ho is a good enough actor, he fills what he lacks with his handsome face(i like him regardless) but go eun is not a good match for him imo. visually and chemistry speaking, i didn't like them as a couple one bit. she had better chemistry with the second male lead here imo. the only outstanding actor here was woo do hwan...he pulled off his character in a VERY EXCELLENT way. i liked the second leads as well.

music: amazing music and OSTs.

rewatch value: if you like lee min ho and woo do hwan then go for a rewatch whenever.

overall:unfortunately this drama had zero interesting plot line and i only kept watching for woo do hwan and lee min ho. gave it 3/10 for those two ^^

An amazing love story

Listen....this drama is not a rom-com and it has a very slow paced set of events but the love story between the leads are amazing and it's definitely worth it. Specially the male lead is a great man who can't love anyone else except the female lead and he turns the world upside down for the FL. He is a fabulous individual himself. He is loyal, kind and caring, he loves people and care about them deeply and he is insanely in love with the female lead. I personally thought that ashes of love had an amazing male lead but this one is far more better than the Phoenix god in ashes of a love...like if you tell him to die he dies for her no question asked without a doubt. Female lead is a little edgy at first...she struggles with her feelings but eventually gives in...i mean who wouldn't...if i ever find a man like that i might fall in love so much faster than her tbh. The only thing that bugged me was the repetitive events. She gets lost, he gets lost...she sacrifices...he sacrifices....bad guy can't leave them alone. Even the bad guy has a valid reason to be the bad guy. Overall it was great. I personally liked this so much that i finished it in three days. Of course you can find negetive sides but i liked the overall story so much that i didn't care. Looking forward to see more dramas like this one.
