Ju-on: Origins
I understand why some horror fans are (will be) disappointed with this series, even my brother was a bit disappointed, because as far as the usual/traditional horror formula goes it isn’t really that scary. The build up to the jump scares were just so-so.For me, it’s more psycho triller than horror. Unlike other stuff under the horror genre, in which the “ghost” causes physical harm to the victim, in this one she just mentally manipulated them into a killing spree. As how my brother desribed it: “She shows up in front of the person and then be like: Surprise! You’re a killer now!”
The gore scenes were also deeply disturbing because it’s way way too graphic, censorship and trigger warnings be damned. There were parts that I had to look away because it was a lot to take in.
Overall, I really enjoyed watching it. I like that it’s plot-heavy instead of focusing on the scary parts. It can be a bit confusing at the start tho because there are two different timelines/stories but they were able to connect it smoothly so the confusion was worth enduring.
I also think that it focusing on the story-telling is a major thing that separates it from the early Ju-on films, and yes other fans might see it as something disrespectful (idk) but I’m honestly okay with how they deviated.

She Knows Everything
I really enjoyed this one.The drama used its 4 eps wisely, and ngl at first I thought it would be too packed with info because of its length but it didn’t feel heavy at all. They played well with the details to slowly reveal the truth about the night Su-jin died. Though I would agree with others that the twists were predictable but tbh it did not really disappointed me because IMO the build up was good.
And don’t get me started with the relationships and connections of the residents because they were presented so well. I can’t stop saying “nice” every time they made a reveal about how one resident is connected to another resident, and how that same connection played a part to the whole story. It made the whole “guess the murderer” plot more interesting.
Overall, it was a really good murder mystery mini-drama .

I enjoyed Coma so much. I especially like the storytelling-style, the story revolves only in one case but told from different perspectives of the people involved in the case so you have a perfect grasp of what really happened. It's also set in one place (the hospital), and I like how they made it look like it all happened simultaneously because each ep took place on the same day, the day before the hospital was scheduled to close down. At some point two or three of the people involved in the said case happened to meet each other in the episodes. The execution was pretty amazing; the five episodes were really used efficiently to tell the whole story. And the horror parts?*insert leonardo dicaprio biting his fist meme*SO GOOD. The type of good that doesn't sacrifice the whole story just so they can have good jump scares. If you're up for something scary, tragic, with lots of blood, I recommend Coma (and it's only 5 episodes). Was this review helpful to you?
