*tw: suicide, rape, depression*
Like most people, i watch this movie with no subs (i heard that the translators are traumatized of translating this film cuz the script are quite traumatizing *tw: anxiety, depression*) If you want to watch the film here's the link: https://youtu.be/dsc-l4GDyP0. Btw, this film is (for me) rated 16+ cuz there's a scene (actually the whole film) which is not really suitable to minors. But anyways, i want to try recalling some stuff i've only understand throughout the film (it'll maybe partial true or idk ugghh no subs).
So the film starts with a chat between two people with alias "blackbird" (Kim jae wook) and "whitebird" (Seo ye ji). They're planning how they'll end their lives or suicide (like if they prefer of jumping off the roof, briquette gas, pills, etc. ). But "whitebird" suggest that they'll do it in Silkworm island before "whitebird" leaves the chat (i knew it from the trailer cuz it has subs).
Now we're getting to know our two leads: Sun Woo (Kim jae wook) and Jung Won (Seo ye ji). Jung Won is what i considered the breadwinner of the family. Her mother is paralyze and sick, while her father, well, he works in the day, and rapes his daughter in the night (wanna slap his face bruhhh). She (i guess) works from many part time jobs: working on the newly open bakery, working at the reception hall, etc. Then we have Sun Woo. I don't really know his character but what i only know that his mother commits suicide in front of him when he was young, that makes him traumatize. And now he's a cop (working on the checkpoint area maybe). The scene he and his girlfriend (now ex). For me she's quite strange like the way she talks and..... Idk whatever.
Now the night before she left, Jung Won has an attempt of killing her father with a kitchen knife. Idk why she didnt proceed it either. Until the next day, she already left and met Sun Woo in the ferry. But they walked in different paths from each other. However one night, they meet again in that exotic, jungle like bar (no noise actually. Just deppressing songs were played there). She asks him if they can stay together tonight. So they check in to a hotel, took a night bath, and they lay on the same bed naked O.O (but they have like a 1 cm gap between them, and maybe they wear something like little clothing O.O). I guess they talk like they can't or trying to sleep, before that scene hapoened O.o. However, Jung Won said something to Sun Woo. Some like how her father abuses her mother (idk if its true bcuz i recognize some korean words there; which is "eomma" (mother) and "pi/pi-ro" (blood/bleeding)). But the way they hug each other with their bare bodies is the sweetest yet desperate thing ive ever seen (if u guys understand it deeply). And after that, i guess Sun Woo has this affection (how he tries to hold her hand) to Jung Won, but i dont think Jung Won would agree on this.
Now, the day they're abt to face death. Sun Woo (i guess-_-) must go to their rendezvouz point where Jung Won is there with her car. But, Sun Woo fell on the cracked ice, which made him drown. Luckily a girl witnessed it and calls help from his dad. To Jung Won, on the other hand, decides to burn a briquette of carbon monoxide, puts it in and locks herself in her car with the filthy gas going through her lungs (as u can see, all the glass windows and doors are locked O.O). Because he was saved, he directly calls a taxi from the hospital and goes to the rendezvouz point, where he already saw Jung Won's car covered with snow. He tries to break the glass while the taxi driver calls 911. While riding in an ambulance, Jung Won receives CPR and an air bag, that she miraculously survives and was now taken to the hospital with Sun Woo.
As a fan of melodramas, this movie is in the next level! Most of the melodramas ive watched mostly focusing on how relationships work out or how they'll understand love from the fighting and stuff, but this melodrama is different. It mostly tells how suicide pacts are quite an issue during these days, and it tells how most deal with it. Ill give this movie a 10/10, and maybe a 12/10 if the subs are out :,(
