over half way thru
At this point, I have to write this. If you are a person who likes repeated montages; sappy annoying snippets of a song, and the allowing people to run unchecked- this is for you.I hate when the same montages are repeated again and again, and the overuse of them period. I don't need one every show. At this point, it's getting to be a bit of both, Why have one every time the FL or ML thinks about the other, whether it's to kiss them or in general do I need the repeat of a montage? But this, I can deal with by fast forwarding; there isn't and words.
What I'm hating is the same song verses played over and over. The English part along with the music is reminiscent of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" . The English is 'come away with me' or something like that, Trying not to think of it to hard- its gives me a headache and gritting my teeth. That one line is in English, the rest in Chinese. But when you read the verses, it's not that great of a song. It seems to be played at least 3 times every episode , I can't fast forward thru that, there's dialogue.
Up to now, I thought the leads had good chemistry and I was rooting for them. But I'm tiring of the 'let's keep our distance cause of the contract' and/or shyness. The FL has lived with a man before, plus she had a box of condoms in her nightstand- she knows about sex. The ML, sometime I'm not sure if he does.
And the male lead. I love the actor Xu Kai, but not so much as this character right now. During the first episode when his mom is yelling at him about blind dates- I wondered if he had Asperger's. After watching the last couple of shows (I'm at 25 now ), I think he does. I really thought when they introduced the 2ML and his fiancée, the leads would change partners later on. Especially when the lie comes out and gets complicated.
I'm growing tired of the continuing 'main drama' story about the embezzlement and money laundering, etc. It's gotten old and with the other plots going on, I lose track of that story line plot,
I read some of the reviews and they say the last 4, or so, shows suck. Right now these points, plus the standard jealous new girlfriend of former lover trope is really petty and the former lover is so disconnected from what she's doing right in front of him. When the FL does something wrong, he's on it in a hot second; current fiancée, he's oblivious. Annoying. Oh and so is the FL 2nd brother and cheating on his wife. She needs to kick him to the curb and move on. Her in-laws should use her as his replacement in the family.
I'm going to finish this, but I really don't have any hopes that it will get any better than this or have any highlights I can root for.
Honestly, I think it didn't need 40 episodes, or rework the story so you have one or two plots going and concluding as they progress through the relationship.

Overall, a nice romcom
Ok, my main problem with this is i think Lee Dam should have ended up with Sun, the second lead. To me he was a better fit. Shin living 999 years and not updating himself to the times, was Irritating. Her constantly calling him Sir, putting up with how he treated her, all without smacking him and giving him 'This is the 22nd century'. Sun really did care and i think he was deserved better treatment. Her constant back and forth with Sun, i felt bad for him. I know she told him early on 'No', but when it continued she should have established ground rules like she did with Shin. i think Shin needed the other fox as his girlfriend, they had more in common. Granted Dam did need to teach him humanity, she could. But at times she was just to complacent and let people walk over her. And why does every single female walking /sitting alone get approached by lecherous men ans have to be saved? If i was younger and prettier, I'd be afraid to go anywhere eithout a group of friends along. I mean is this the culture Korea has or story? Why does the girl have to be saved, why can't she have a heavy bag to hit with and a whistle and pepper spray? Was this review helpful to you?

in my opinion
I’ve watched 19 of the episodes so far. don’t know if I want to finish. I agree with the other review that it really is trope heavy and predictable. But there were a couple of places I really liked- when FIL and MIL hid from the world and lived as regular people; the devil lord smiling and loving stir fry (wish he got the phoenix, thought they made a better fit); and the telling of the past. What I found annoying was the costumes- a ‘soldier’s’ uniform looking feminine and form fitting, and the flouncy dress of the women. there are places where the leads were overdressed in comparison to the company they kept.
as for the story- it seems like they had different writers for each show or story arc or couple. Perhaps the directors had different visions of how the story should go or what’s explained/not explained. I admit that I still don’t understand the the split between the librarian and the dean- not sure if it’s a culture thing or just doesn’t make a lot of sense. and as for the heavenly emperor, time to go out to pasture pops, you are to stuck on yourself and contradictory.
I think better writing, directing, and better chemistry between the characters would help overall.

The Viki version is shortened.
Viki has shortened 2 seasons down to 6 episodes for each season for a total of 12, 1/2 hour shows. While watching the first couple of shows, it wasn't to noticeable. It became really evident when mom was to marry then it seemed she was; the indentrue was over; the FL's boss leaves on a case without her and you know he liked her; starting what appears to be the second season, to name a few.The way its been edited makes me wonder if it was because the ratings were down when broadcasted; or if the story didn't play well or the leads weren't believable; or the leads needed to be showcased for some reason. at this point, ive watched the first 6 shows, and while yes the story is there, seriously cut back/down, its ok but definitely lacking.

It's just another version of "The Nutty Professor" with a female lead. The ML happens to know and like the 'natural' (large) version of the FL. And you know the standard trope will be that the man she likes will be bad for her. It's kinda of cute, not to funny. It's a movie you want to watch when vegging out and not required to think or remember anything. I made it to the hour mark before I was ready to call it quits and just had it on for the noise after that. The story needs work on the transitions between scenes; it seems to roughly jump from one scene to the next. This is especially true when the FL reverts back and fat shaming and fat comments are made to cover over the roughness. Was this review helpful to you?

If you're a detail paying person, this may not be for you
After 31 episodes, I fast forwarded thru about 2 shows worth. I got tired of watching FL fighting in the beginning after the 4th or 5th time; the fight scenes took up third of the episodes. Then the fighting stopped, and now comes the will we/won't we/i need to save everyone/I love you/I hate you sacrifices, plots and tropes. Fast forward, so much repetition. The bickering scenes between the leads was good, i enjoyed it. But.... The I'll make him/her hate me so I/she can leave was way to much. Then there's the "seriously, you're going there?" moments. Like, firing a canon pointed at a crowd of people; the ML fainted at sight of blood, but then had no problem with it; or the "the lie will kill everyone" trope (that was overused so much);ML can fight, but can't fight; and whole yo-yo on again/off again, leaving/staying.
I started to watch it because ML was a detective. Well, don't expect more than 5 shows worth of that. more often than not, they fall into it like Mystery Incorporated.
The biggest problem I had was with the 'breaking of the rules' story line. If the wife comes from a good or noble family, then she is expected to act an be a certain way. Its overlooked so often, I wondered was I watching a period piece or fantasy. And if the mother thought FL was a vixen, why didn't she lock her away? Or kill her outright? SMH that gave me a headache with all that back and forth.
If you want to veg, and can fast forward thru all the repeating tropes, it's not to bad. But seriously, it could be cut down by at least a third to make it better.

It had a lot of potential but overall the MLS carried it
Whole I haven’t finished yet, I plan to. The friendship between the MLS is hilarious and heartwarming. At first I thought this was going to be a boy love show, I mean they played it so well. But these 2 men, will always be there for each other. The music I found annoying at times; sometimes instrumental is better than the constant repetition of a songs verse. I have to agree about Baby Zhang, I couldn’t buy her as the love interest. I think the female police officer or the law office clerk would have been a good match for Robin. And Su Yi mom, in the beginning she had to call her every day, then nothing. Mom dropped off face of earth. And the expensive gift I’m guessing is coming back to bite the FL in the ass. If it doesn’t, what a plot hole and plot drop. But if it does, most likely will be the standard ‘saw that coming’ trope and be a bit disappointing. I do admit I like the new love feel the ML and FL had; it was believable. Was this review helpful to you?

I am distrubed
Ok, I admit that cruel things happen in this world, many times committed by people. I was watching the 1st episode of this seeing if I could get a feeling for the autism spectrum FL. There was a cat hit and badly hurt. She goes and looks at the ca, see's that it's suffering and still looks. By the time she decides to do 'help' the cat, you're lead to believe she's taking it to the vet, even more time passes. She even stops to look at her pc. There's a hurt and yowling in pain cat, laying in the gutter and she's d***ing around. When she gets back to the cat, she covers it in hand towels like a shroud. I thinking she's covering it up cause she finds it offensive. She then pulls out a utility knife...then you see her physically struggle using it....I was shocked and horrified; it made me sick. That was it, couldn't watch anymore. Then before I could turn it off, she said she killed a cat. I was thru. I know animals are put down every day, but this! She asked the person on the phone what should she do and they said take it to the vet. She was so emotionless, ice cold and her face devoid of any emotion except did I get the blade long enough? No pity, no sorrow, total void of human caring. I couldn't take it and turned it off.
