not what i expected
i watched this drama because i thought it was a bl wuxia drama, but it was more like criminal minds but wuxia version, and there's romancestory: there are separate cases every couple of episodes, where jian bu zhi tries to solve them, just like the name "ancient detective" suggests. he meets people on the way that help him, and he is wanted by a group of people.
acting/cast: the acting wasn't out of this world, but it wasn't bad. i recognized zhao wo huan from the prince of tennis. jian bu zhi looks like wang yi bo in so many scenes lol. the girls were kinda average imo.
music: i don't know why, but i didn't pay much attention to the music like i would with other dramas. it just didn't "hit different" and it wasn't that intense.
rewatch value: meh i wouldn't really rewatch it, i rushed to finish this drama not because it was good but because i wanted to get it over with
overall: it's a good drama if you want to savor it, the biggest reason i didn't like it is because it was not what i expected when i read the synopsis of this drama. i personally dislike straight romance LOL

was good at first, and then got too predicable and cringe.
before we get into the review..just keep in mind i hate most romance dramas. id much rather watch historical bl dramas (historical straight romance dramas are fine too), so i'm already biased against the genre of this drama lol
story:
i really liked the story at first, but when the romance got involved i just stopped being as interested and more like grossed out. the tournaments are pretty interesting i gotta say though, although i have heard from other people that play 王者荣耀 say that it's really unrealistic, but i don't play it so idk.
acting/cast:
i don't really like the character that cheng xiao played in this drama. they made her so ugly lmao. xu kai looks fine as always but i know this was his first drama of this style, because he used to only act in historical chinese dramas. i actually prefer him in reality c dramas and not historical ones. cheng xiao is an idol, i don't really know about her being an actor, but if she's passionate about it then go her
music:
cringe cutesy romantic music.
no other opinion
rewatch value:
i already predicted the whole story before even watching like the 5th episode so.. not rewatching this.
(tbh this is an excuse. i just thought the ending was way too fast.)
overall:
if you like romance dramas then watch this one. i wouldn't say it's.. necessarily bad.. but i personally didn't like it.

dropped this at six episodes
(soryr i don't know how to translate some words into english so i just wrote them in chinese lmao)before i get on with my very opinionated review, i know people are gonna think "well you haven't even watched the whole thing your opinion isn't valid" but honestly idc lmao i just didn't like the plot and the acting and the cringe romance scenes.
also, i'm more of a historical girl so many my opinion is kind of biased, especially on the romantic aspects.
the story is pretty basic, a chaotic girl and a doctor. this drama itself would be ok to me... if the main leads were switched to like "less popular" actors and the drama was not announced so early. but the the main leads are 杨紫 and 肖战 and this drama was said to air like years ago. i was excited to watch it because of the popularity of these actors and i thought it would be somewhat of a different drama, rather than the basic plot that almost every romance drama has. i knew that 杨紫 had always played a 疯疯癫癫 (chaotic?) girl, so i kind of expected that but i also kind of wished that she would try a new character. as most of you know, that didn't happen. as i said before, i prefer watching historical dramas, where the romance isn't the main plot and there's none of that... cringe? stuff. to other people it may seem cute but it's difficult for me to watch those scenes without cringing.
as for the acting, they're both really good, it's just the personality of the character that they're playing that annoys me. although i will say, doesn't matter what role 杨紫 is playing, her crying scenes are always on point. (i'm not like hating on the actors themselves or their acting skills or anything, just the 剧本 and the drama itself)
i don't really pay attention to modern drama's osts, so i don't have an opinion on this.
i didn't even finish it the first time so i probably won't come back to this.
overall, it's just not as good as i thought it would be after waiting like two years for this. i'll stick to my historical dramas :)
