Second season? Please don't..
Fast forward and I became great friends during this show.The story is dragging, the chemistry of the ML and FL is awful.. I'm sorry to say, but the FL was totally not my cup of tea with her dumbo ears and annoying expressions. What is more, her role was to act dumb and childish 2/3 of the 40 episodes and the ML who's supposed to be much older and experienced, fells for her. Really??
It's fiction, I understand, but still..
The only positive thing I can say is that the era is pretty well represented with the detailed presentation of customs, clothing etc.

You won't regret watching this!
I waited until the last 8 episodes were out and then binge-watched it until the end. Don't you think that Timmy walks like Keanu Reeves?? Bouncy-bouncy..Anyways..
The acting is fantastic, even the minor roles are well-acted and I never felt wary of any of the characters. The ML and FL had great chemistry and many passionate moments. Their characters grew together as their story unfolded.
There were a few VERY bad SG moments, but with the great story line, I could easily forgive and forget them.
Since there are 40 episodes, I am not sure if I want to rewatch it soon, but who knows. Definitely recommend!

Satisfying!
You won't find anything "new" in the storyline, but I still found the drama entertaining and engaging.The acting is good, the characters are loveable/hateable. I liked that there isn't too much emotionally overwhelming in the drama that makes you feel too lethargic to keep watching.
My only complain is that I wanted to see more lovey-dovey moments and heart-throbbing kiss scenes which are scarce in this drama. Too bad!
I did skip some parts, but the story could still keep my interest long enough to finish the 65 episodes within a week.

Not deep enough
My apologies for those who love this drama, but I found it boring.The acting was fine but I think the FL's personality was too unrealistic. The love story part was weak, the love triangle went almost unnoticeable. I felt that the couple was depicted as high school students rather as adults thus their struggles didn't move me at all. Giggles, chuckles, hiding our face of embarrassment over nothing.. oh please..
The music was actually pretty good, I didn't mind listening to the same two lines over and over again.
I've seen more engaging Taiwanese dramas than this.

Good drama but very heavy
I haven't seen the Chinese version of this drama, but I can tell you that this one is heavy and depressing. (The Taiwaneese version of HYD/Meteor Garden was like that too.) I never felt truly happy for any of the main characters while watching this painful love-triangle story. When you watch a love-triange story, you know that somebody will have to suffer in the end but still, the director twists the lines in a way that you can justify your happiness for the couple. I think this is missing from this drama.The acting was good, I generally like Barbie Hsu and just finished another great drama starring Huang Xiao Ming, so I had high expectations. Well, they don't disappoint, it's just the lethargic story that leaves a hole in your heart in the end.
I would rather watch another drama than feeling depressed again because of rewatching this one, but I understand that there are many fans who like this stuff.

Unrealistic
Love triangles are fine, but this drama contained way too many. The director is trying to sell all love affairs on Earth among these approx. 10 characters. It almost feels like they didn't have enough money to hire more actors..The ML and FL had no chemistry whatsoever and their relationship didn't really go anywhere. The main conflict bw the two main actresses wasn't solved either. The evil characters were not seen atoning for their sins or regretting anything. They weren't really punished either. Where was the climax of the story? No idea. My excitement rate was the same constant (low) level throughout the 40 episodes.
I don't think that anybody should bother with this drama. There are way betters out there so just skip this and save yourself 40 hours.
