It asks you a very important question , "For how long can you strive to achieve your goal?"
This drama is undoubtedly excellent, with its color palette being slightly dark unlike Imitation. If you've watched Imitation then you've probably seen that it's about a failed group who sticks close even through hardships but Idol : the coup is the complete opposite. It was very realistically portrayed, how hardships break relationships and how much hardships affect a relationship. Each of these characters have a past, some fears, and some hope. They all hope to be popular but the ways that they strive to achieve it is different.CHARACTERS:
Our fl is somebody who can go to any extent to save the group, she can as she says "stoop low" but will make sure that the group is saved. She is like the backbone to the group but like everyone has limits, she has a point too at which she breaks down. But she believes that the group has hope.
On the other hand is Jihan, a member of a very popular boy band and the boy band is doing very well. But the problem with his character is that when he protects someone for whatever reason, everything else loses its importance. Now you may wonder why I'm saying that it's a problem. In this drama, it is a problem because when he starts protecting Cotton Candy, his own group goes at a risk and starts losing importance. It's difficult for Jihan to grip both of them together because Cotton Candy and MARS were never on speaking conditions.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Jenna-Jihan : I must say that initially, this relationship was completely one-sided, with Jihan giving everything and Jenna accepting, but later in the drama, Jenna also starts giving Jihan. They both understand each other very well because they share the same passion for music. If you're looking for a drama where the main characters understand each other and their relationship have very realistic ups and downs then this one is for you. [PS: I never lost hope in Jihan and I was right all along. :)]
Cotton Candy : They have a good friendship but like I mentioned hardships put a crack in their relationship with one member leaving and constant fights in the dorm.
Cotton Candy - Mars : Apart from it being a simple senior-junior relationship, they start developing empathy for each other. The quote to sum their entire journey is "Grass may seem greener on the other side but it isn't always". Cotton Candy was a failed group and they were unable to get any opportunities, it hurt them that they stayed in a booth for so long, practicing, giving their best to the company, only to get forgotten. They dreamt of being extremely popular. A member of Cotton Candy didn't even like MARS because she sorta blamed them. But MARS had its own difficulties. MARS being an extremely popular boy band subjects them to being very transparent; every action of theirs is always ensuring that their fans aren't upset. And it also subjects them to having rabid "fans", the kind who attack so frequently without understanding a situation.
All in all, this drama is excellent but it's not light hearted. It deals with alot of issues and the issue introduced in few eps might be triggering if you have experienced something like that. But otherwise, it deals well with all difficulties unpopular groups go through. They can neither get out nor stay in for too long. SO, yall watch this drama. It's damn good!

Life leaves us with unanswered questions but those either lead to reality or fiction
It was an excellent drama and some people will beg to differ because of the ending but I loved the drama including the ending. If you think of Na Hee Do and Baek Yi Jin as two lovers then this story's ending is not what you'd want but if you think of them as soulmates, the ending will hurt you but not as much because you'll know that no matter where they are, they'll always hold a place in each others' hearts. The story/plot was well made. It all started with a simple fencer and a bankrupt boy and it went on to talk about life, dreams ,adults, burdens, importance and to portray a relationship where in both lift each other up. The writers sure created a good story with all the crisis, emotions. Na Hee Do isn't a perfect character, she's a great fencer, stands up for herself, optimistic, but at the same time is impulsive and wears her heart on her sleeve.
On the contrast there is Baek Yi Jin, a boy whose family is bankrupt, having a hard time and promises people to never be happy and suffer the consequences of his father's actions. When the 2 worlds collide they create a balance, they cancel out each others' worst traits and give each other what they need - reality checks, hope, courage.
A couple who shares similar dynamics are Ji Woong and Ko Yu Rim. Ko Yu Rim, a gold medal fencer who constantly puts herself down, poor, hardworking but succumbs to pressure and power. For her there's Ji Woong, smart, optimistic and someone who likes her whole heartedly.
If I were to sum up this drama then it's beautiful, simple yet elegant. It'll give you nostalgia of the 90s but also remind you of the problems. It'll teach you important lessons straightforwardly yet it'll give you a good dose of happiness. I've loved this drama and it's definitely worth a watch.

When two people really care about each other, they make it work. No matter how hard it is.
A MORE RELATABLE VERSION OF F4!First of all, till date [13/2/2022] only 8 episodes have been released and I WILL watch the entire series so you can consider me a person who has seen all the episodes released. And if you're wondering why I am writing a review now instead of later then I have a lot of thoughts about this and once further episodes are released, I'll have more which I'll add on here!
F4 Thailand has a very unique charm to it which has drawn me in to an extent that I feel like I've been hypnotized by the series and I enjoy it. Maybe it's because, the violence was toned down, maybe because I'm able to understand Thyme so much better.
So let's begin the review:
STORY => So the story is the same old cliche, rich bad boy with a poor girl but as I mentioned earlier that it has a very unique charm which makes me forget the cliche. Now in the earlier versions, Daoming Si/Goo Joon Pyo from every glance were just rich, stuck up brats who had a sudden change in them because of love which also they abused which made the second male lead more favorable but here I honestly didn't really have second male lead syndrome. Thyme here is so much more down to earth? So much more broken and Bright portrays it excellently. The character arc and his sad past makes so much more sense here and as to how that shaped him into what he is. Another thing about the story is that they have included an element of "Heavy is the head that wears the crown". Kavin (Win) explained it simply but yet it had so much meaning in the series. The pressure that he talked about it made me understand Thyme more and made F4 pitiful to some extent.
ACTING => There's only one word for the acting in here "TOP NOTCH". Bright portrays every emotion you name extremely well. His eyes convey so much and I really mean that he doesn't act out but becomes Thyme. Whether it is having fights with Gorya, regret about the past, hurt, anger, happiness - Bright brings the character to life. Then there's Tu who is Gorya. Tu has done a great job for her acting debut. She really looks the combination of elegant and badass. The minute she kicked Thyme, I felt the satisfaction that I never felt in the earlier versions because I was overwhelmed by the whole toxicity. The other F4 actors - Win, Dew, Nani have also done very well but there stories will start from now on, specifically Win and that'll open a whole new dimension of theirs to watch. BONUS - Cindy who plays Thyme's mother, damn she looks so sharp that I am scared of her the minute she is on screen. Jeez, the casting is amazing, they really got the bet actors on board!
MUSIC => Let it speak for itself. Go now and listen to Who Am I by the 4 actors of the F4.
To conclude, the cinematography has also been extra ordinary. The aesthetics, the fashion, the dialogues and the writing team is very smart too! They really named the flower shop that Kaning (Xiaoyou/ the fl's friend) and Gorya work at "Maytee O Garden" which when you read out seems like "Meteor Garden" which is another version of Boys Over Flowers. Yeah, but if you've watched the previous versions and don't wish to watch this thinking that you can't go through the whole toxic phase again, please watch this because they've reduced the toxicity a lot and the characters are more relatable. And those who have never watched any versions, skip the others and watch this one. You'll never regret watching this!
