I’m a huge fan of XZ and I love the ML and FL interaction (IRL). I was looking forward to OOL for 2 years+ but I’m mildly disappointed with the series. The only saving grace of the show is the good looking cast, particularly XZ. Im so conflicted because I love XZ but I hateeee Gu Wei’s character. He’s so bloody controlling and annoying to the point i had to fast forward more than half the time. LXZ’s character has so much potential to be something epic but again, character development was very poor - the character doesn’t give YZ justice honestly. Why does she has to be a docile, weak, timid yes girl? I raged at the scene where she was ridiculed by the other female doctor during a formal dinner event and she just apologized and walk off? REALLY?!! I wish they do more justice to both leads. I was expecting at least an arc/ some sort of climax towards the end but yeah, nothing. End of my rant. TqWas this review helpful to you?

Wished it was longer
Where do I start? I love almost everything about the drama. The plot. The soundtrack. The costumes and cinematography. Most importantly the casting. I’m particular blown away by Leo Wu’s performance as Ashile Sun - he’s such a badass as Tegin and there’s so much emotions in his eyes & his body language. I can’t forget the fighting scene, when he threw the cup on the ground and the ep when he had to kneel to She’er.I wished the drama was longer though, some sun-plots just felt they were crammed into a mini series. Also, wish there’s more passion between the FL and ML - the chemistry is there and there’s so much potential for an epic love story but there’s simply lack of passion from LCG so it just didn’t feel memorable which is a shame. That aside, both leads delivered very solid performance. The drama is def worth your time.

One of the best, heart wrenching drama of all time
I’m giving the drama a solid 9.The story and plot is a mash up of multiple xanxia-verse so there isn’t much of an element of surprise on the plot but Cheng Yi oh boy Cheng Yi is a gem - His acting carried the show. The pain, anguish, regret and suffering portrayed looked sooooo real that I feel like Ying Yuan myself. He’s such an incredible actor that successfully made pain even more PAINFUL than it already is. I must commend that Yang Zi, despite her bubbly and girl next door image also did a fantastic job alongside Cheng Yi. The scene with her damaged and bleeding foot at the river destroyed me. Whyyyyyy??
The drama wouldn’t be as impactful without the stellar performance of our ML/FL. I think they’ve given all the characters justice.
What I love -
Brilliant first class acting by both leads!! We can hardly get performance like this anymore as they’re too many newbies in C-Ent and good looking actors/actresses without the real acting chops getting casted
The development from Ying Yuan and Yan Dan 1.0 vs 2.0 version of them - both have grown, mature and learn to love more u conditionally, so beautifully
The parallels between Ying Yuan & Tang Zhou/ young Yan Dan & demon Yan Dan - love how the tables were turned as they learnt the importance of living for yourself (for YY) and duty and responsibility (for YD)
The precious friendship between Yumo and the 2 Leads are beautiful to watch.
How Zhi Xi redeemed herself in the end - I love the twist to it
If you forget you have watched Eternal Love, Love and Redemption, the storyline is acceptable
Sexy Xuan Ye daddy is soooo sexy
The bad:
Some of the supporting cast - not exactly their fault but there’s so much repetition with some actors so it doesn’t feel as impactful. This is like watching Love and Redemption 2.0 in a way.
The editing could be better. Felt that the last few episodes were too rushed and could be laid out better for viewers
Too much focus on anguish and pain to a point it doesn’t make too sense - Yan Dan is willing to die for Ying Yuan, gave him her heart (literally and figuratively), suffered for 800 years but she’s not willing to be with Ying Yuan 2.0 just because he once chose duty over her. Err?? Like you’re already so in love with this person that you’d give him your life, why allow your ego to be in the way for smt so petty?
The 2nd ML - Yumo’s character is interesting and could have so much more potential if it was better casted. His acting is stiff and awkward which made whatever he does for Yan Dan very forgettable by the audiences.

Can’t find any fault
Great drama with so much suspense and things to look forward to after every episode. I love the story line, the smaller plots as they travel across cities and how they compliment the wider bigger plot of the drama. Not a fan of mellow dramatic plot so I’m glad it has minimal of that sorta stuff. Love the unexpected twist towards the end of the drama as well, it gave me such great satisfaction in the end. I must commend, superb performance/ acting by the cast especially Cheng Yi. I wished they’d casted someone else than Chen Duling though - her character is supposed to be a strong martial arts guru/leader but she looks so pitiful /weak 80% of the time. That’s the only miscast I can think of from the entire drama otherwise it’s a really great work by the team.Was this review helpful to you?
