New to K-drama. I mean I always knew it existed, I just thought it was almost all just cheesy romance (*sorry, my bad*).
The first ever Korean movie I watched was the amazing Train to Busan 2016 and then Parasite 2020. But what really got me into this "black hole" is Sweet Home and Arthdal Chronicles (and Alice in Borderland, though it's technically a J drama). I am a lifelong fantasy fan but the only real contact I had with Asian fantasy until recently was through Japanese anime - which I watched A LOT (I have MAL too, but I'm afraid to open it and see how much of my life I "wasted" :D ).
That being said, the genres I prefer (but not limit myself to) are: Fantasy, Supernatural, Horror, Sci-Fi, Mystery, Thriller, Historical, Adventure...
I am aware I can't avoid romance in K-drama, but I prefer it not to be the center of the plot/story. I like smart, sharp witted and even cocky/sassy characters, and I like when a hint of comedy is blended into the drama. I love badass leads, regardless of the gender. I love strong friendships and bromances. I love intricate but plausible stories and developments that I can't predict.
What I don't like (of the top of my head): cheesy romance. Weak female roles. Flat characters and a rushed plot. Fan service.
If I like a show/movie, I will give it a 10/10. Not because I think it's perfect, but this is just something that I do. If I give it less, than it means there was something that really bugged me.
- ARMY! <3 (OT7 but Jimin stole my heart)
- STAY (OT8 but I'm weak for Hyunlix)
