Cute and simple movie of self-actualization
I came across this randomly on youtube and i decided to watch. This movie is very simple and very basic with certain unrealistic elements but still a satisfying watch.
The plot is nothing new but it is different in the direction it took. It's your typical mousy office girl meets her highschool crush at work and tries to win him over with a makeover but instead of the romance being center stage it's more of a catalyst to her journey of self discovery.
The Female lead executed her role flawlessly. She allowed her mother to dictate and direct her life and suppressed her creative talent because of the bad memories her mother associates with art. I felt sorry for her and was frustrated by her docility in equal measure.
I loved the existence of shiny, her confident, assertive and outgoing alter ego who manifests as an imaginary friend until she comes to the realization that they are one and the same.
The male lead was kind and sweet. He saw her shortcomings and didn't actively force her to correct them but subtly suggested how she could correct them and in all cases it had to be her decision. I really liked that.
I don't consider this a romance, more a coming of age movie. The romance fell short. The ending existed only to give the movie a romantic ending. There was no lead up to it or anything. That was annoying but not enough to spoil the sweetness of the movie.
It was an easy watch, quite enjoyable but i won't rewatch it in a hurry.
