I was looking for a melodrama and stumbled upon this one. I've watched Hawick Lau's other drama and thought that I'd give this one a try, plus it's only 36 episodes, so it should be moving in a good pace. The drama started out strong and kept me interested and curious as to what's going to happen next. However, there are some inconsistencies which I don't know if it's because i wasn't paying attention towards the middle or it's just inconsistencies. For example, Hawick's character is deaf. Most movies or western series that I've watched, when the character is deaf, he or she doesn't speak well because they never heard how other people or themselves when they speak. So they speak in a mumbled or muffled sounds. Hawick's character speaks like a normal person without disabilities. Maybe he's not born with this disability or his hearing is only slightly impaired. He does wear a hearing aid in the first couple of episodes and later on when his disability is found. Another one is the character that i hate the most, Ying Ying. She's supposed to be this huge star and they did show that in the beginning, that she used a body double to escape her fans when she arrived at the airport. But other than that, she seemed to be going everywhere as a normal person would with no disguise and no fans lurking about. This is minor to the story, but kinda bugs me a little. The drama focuses more on the business, revenge and family angle with romance thrown in more like a sideline. So if you're looking for romance drama, this is not the one for you. Other than that, the drama is just so-so. I skipped many parts, so maybe that's why I might have missed Hawick's background story on his disability. Overall, this would not be a drama that I recommend.
