Overhyped
Some people might hate me for this but I do not think it deserves its hype. I watched every episode religiously on GMMTV hoping that by some episode I would think "Wow this is amazing", but alas that day did not come. What killed it for me is that the storyline is overused and bland. A drama set in a university setting? Already have seen this 15 million other times. Next! A drama about a straight guy turned gay in the span of what? Like a few months(I don't remember)?. Ok you mean like every other bl drama in existence. Next! But I guess GMMTV is smart because I keep crawling back to watch this type of drama despite bashing it 24/7. I like Bright and Win but the acting did not do anything for me. Despite this, I give them the benefit of the doubt for the fact that they haven't been acting in these type of shows for the longest. All in all it was another cookie cutter drama that will unfortunately won't stick in my head for any other reason than Bright and Win's handsome faces. Was this review helpful to you?

Wow
I was not expecting to enjoy this drama as much as I did. I am not a person that enjoys slow-paced dramas but I am so glad I kept pushing. The storyline is rather simple but it was done so well that it felt like a new story that I had not seen before. First of all the acting was spectacular. At first I did not think the actor who played Teh was talented enough compared to his counterpart. I am saying now that I admit that I was wrong. Episode 4 kicked me in my heart so bad I was left in shock. I felt his pain. Oh my god I felt that so deeply. He cried exactly that way I have cried many times before. Second, the scenery oh my lord. Take my to Thailand right now! What town was this in? I want to visit so badly. Third, the subtle messages were great. The subtle touches, glances, and messages all of it. Fourth, the tie in with Chinese culture I adored. I am learning Mandarin currently and am fascinated about Chinese culture. I wanted to squeal like a fan girl every time I understood the Chinese. I loved the way Teh used Chinese as a way to convey his thoughts and emotions to Oh-aew. 放心(fàngxīn-to trust), 关心(guānxīn- to care), 男主角(Nán zhǔjiǎo- male protagonist). 我的天啊!我很感动。I definitely say watch it to anyone who is on the fence about watching it. I can't wait for season 2!Was this review helpful to you?
It’s been a year
Ok so fair warning I haven’t watched this drama in over a year and am now just reviewing it. I can’t really tell if I liked this drama or not. I will certainly give it something for it’s addictive quality. I binge watched this shit on a school night and got no sleep. I went to school and then continued to watch it in class. Another reason I liked this drama was because I enjoyed the female lead’s character well enough and the actress is drop dead gorgeous. I didn’t really care for the male lead. The one main thing I didn’t enjoy about the drama was the plot. A lot of Chinese slice of life(?) dramas have this problem for me. The plot has some events that happen that are absolutely ridiculous and are tropey(is this a word?). But I guess if you’re looking for a sense of escapism, this is your ideal drama. It was fun and light so overall not a bad drama. Was this review helpful to you?
I think I enjoyed the story but for sure loved the actors
Ok, let me be honest my love for how the characters are portrayed is making up for more than 60% of this rating. The acting was solid. I have seen Zhu Yilong and Bai Yu in other project since then and adore their acting. I fell in love with the way they portrayed their characters and grew attached to the characters. The actor who played the villain in the beginning...I laughed at him way too much. I could not take him seriously for real I enjoyed the cases and the basic storyline. Unfortunately some story lines were dragged out too long and some were way too short for me. People have complained about the CGI and I see what your talking about haha. But they did run out of budget so I do not think it is terrible enough that it had an effect on the way I viewed this drama. This drama will always be a gem for me but it is not perfect. Was this review helpful to you?

Hey you! Yeah you there! Watch it!
Ok I wanted to wait a minute before making this review. I needed to make sure that I would accurately convey my thoughts on this drama. So warning this will be long and spoilery- ish(?).First thing first,to answer the question of the small percentage of people who have not watched this drama:Should I watch this drama? This answer is: yes, a very loud, enthusiastic yes. This drama easily ranks as one of the best tv shows I’ve ever watched. I would highly recommend you to watch it.I watched this drama in sections because first of all, it’s long. Sooo long. But do not let stop you from watching it if your like me and detest long dramas.Second of all, I needed to take breaks from my frequent heart burn. Trust me it wasn’t my diet.
I’ve never fallen so hard for a MC as I did Wei Wuxian. He is the opposite of a character I would typically like. He’s an extroverted character whose loud and a little bit obnoxious. Honestly if I had met him at the beginning I might have punched him. But as he grew and matured , he grew on me.He has many admirable traits that an audience likes to see:humility , selflessness , and a deep care for others. I prayed to whatever god to not make him a male Mary Sue. And these prayers were answered. Thank you author, the man has flaws!I was so thankful that he was not portrayed to be the perfect character who can do no wrong. This made him all the more real to me. It made me care for his character deeply.
I have also never fallen so hard for a second male lead as I have fallen for Lan Wangji. Even if it could not be portrayed as clearly as it should have because of Chinese censorship, you can see and feel how much he cares for Wei Wuxian. Man, I need someone to be as loyal to me as he is loyal to Wei Wuxian. Seriously, his loyalty knows no bounds. The character trait that he has that him and Wei Wuxian share that I like is that that they both stand up for what they believe in. It’s an admirable trait that I hope to now carry into my real life. The only problem I have with Lan Wangji is that he does not have any real flaws. Correct me if I’m wrong. I might have missed something( I haven’t watched it in like seven months.)I guess you could argue his flaw is his loyalty to Wei Wuxian, which led to pain in his life. But you could also argue that this is a strength because in the end he is given happiness because of it.
One last character I want mention before moving on to the plot is Jiang Cheng. Dear reader, give him a chance! I see a lot of you dogging on Jiang Cheng. I get it. So much of his actions in the plot lead you to dislike him. But even if the actors acting wasn’t fantastic. I liked Jiang Cheng. I feel like he is so misunderstood and hated on because he caused Wei Wuxian a little pain. Which of course makes total sense. But didn’t Wei Wuxian as well? What I like about Jiang Cheng is that he is so human and real. I related to his character so much. I feel like if I was in his place I would have done similar actions. Regrettably, of course. But this makes me wonder how people’s views would change if Jiang Cheng were the MC. I bet you some of you would sympathize with him because his story is tragic as well.
I enjoyed the main villain(?)as well. There is the obvious villain but there is also hinting at a less obvious villain that is fantastically portrayed.
The plot I enjoyed. Who wouldn’t like men with swords attempting to save the world? Give me more. They took out some of the stuff from the book due to censorship’s I believe but I think it’s still pretty solid. Also this drama introduced me to the whole cultivation world which I find very interesting. It’s a plot I have not seen a million times and it’s enjoyable.
The music I enjoyed well enough. People dog on the music but I honestly I don’t think it’s too bad.The emotions I think we were meant to feel were amplified because of it.
The drama itself does have its flaws. One major thing for me was that some of the actors acting showed that they were not well seasoned actors.
The costume design and hair was okay at best for me.
Some of the CGI, whew honey.
But overall all a fantastic drama I will never forget: due to how much heartburn it caused me(but also it’s endearing characters).

I am confused
Okay can someone tell me why everyone adores this series? I do not mean to sound mean or anything. I am genuinely curious. I wish I had enjoyed this series so that I can be as passionate about as I see some people be about it. But no. The series for me was bland. I did not find one part of the show that I was moved by in any way. I pushed myself to get through it. I even started its sequel too but abandoned it . I did not really like any of the acting. I do not know what it it is. I think I just found Singto rather lifeless or maybe I just don't feel like he connected with his character. I could be completely wrong though. Now that I have seen him in other dramas, I have enjoyed his characters but Kongpob just feels I don't know...eh? I liked Krist's acting just fine. Overall it was okay but to me just a little overhyped. Was this review helpful to you?
