The Korean version was the first I encountered and fell in love with the show. The Taiwanese show ( original) was the next to come appear from my searches. It varied the story and how they played the characters and ,except for the final few episodes, I again fell in love. The more recent Thai version again played it slightly different to both previous productions . While I wasn't quite as enthusiastic, it still was quite a good show.
All three had great casts, chemistry between the leads, believable plot, fine production ....actually all the elements required to make an engaging enjoyable show. This most recent version from Japan lacked almost everyone of these elements , except for the female lead. It felt rushed, inexpensive, and amateurish which is not true for many wonderful Japanese shows.
As I watched it felt like there will be no Season 2 to complete the story as the company decided to cut it short because it was just not getting any better. This is of course my opinion. I am now excitedly looking forward to the promised Chinese version due this year starring my favorite couple from The Eternal Love 1 and 2. ( That's the one with the THE in the title)
Please still watch this drama and, if you haven't already, check out the other three, soon to be four!!

The casting was spot on , the performances were that of a true ensemble . The characters were so well drawn that even the vicious villains were multi dimensional. Each episode delivered humor ( laughed out loud), pathos, romance, sadness . There is even one scene where, reminiscent of the classic Steel Magnolias, I went from teary to laughing within a minute!!
I normally follow actors in shows and trust in their selection of projects but this time I am definitely going to pay attention to both the script writer and director. This show was one that would stand out as a fine Asian drama !!
I mean they even manage to have a scene where the arch villain gets to deliver a scathing view of the impact of poverty on women.....while staying in character!!
This is an enjoyable show on many levels and I look forward to watching again in the future. ( Of course, this is just my opinion but I do hope it gets recognized as great entertainment)

Even the second time it was wonderful
This was definitely a slow burner but maybe that contributed to the developing love being so believable. I only know I still did not fast forward any part on the second viewing of this drama. For me, the plot managed a great balance between, romance, family drama and 'business". The script also added to the sincerity of the story. However, the best part was the performances of , not only the leads, but the whole ensemble. I particularly became a mad fan of Ci Sha. I could rave about the music as well...I know this is not a good review as such. My only excuse is that I watch a lot of Asian drama, and have a list of favourites from a number of countries including China and this one is definitely in the top five .

There are many Korean dramas which are not star driven but a tour de force of all performers and this is particularly true of this cast. This brings into focus the value of all relationships , familial, marital, friendship, work.....
My advice within this review is do NOT binge watch this show. It can take too long to recover from some individual episodes. The strength of the cast and script has resulted in scenes played with subtlety are still capable of packing a heavy punch. I highly recommend watching this drama but with someone so that the phone calls/discussions add to the experience. Stay safe all.
