If you value your blood pressure and sanity, don't watch this serial!
I’ve never reviewed a serial before but watching this drama served as such an infuriating experience that I just had to write a review on it. There are many reasons why I gave this serial an overall rating of 1 star out of 10.
Reason # 1 - The Characterization, especially that of the leading characters. The male protagonist acts like a spoiled brat throughout the serial. He has a sadistic twisted personality - he keeps on “testing” the heroin as if she’s some kind of a lab rat. He constantly plays mind games with her, throws tantrums and tries to invade her personal space. He tricks her into marrying him and then starts having trust issues with her which isn't surprising at all as they get married after barely knowing one another for only 3-4 weeks. He exploits her kindness and also misuses his visual impairment to treat her like his personal slave than his wife. After having a successful eye surgery and regaining his sight, he pretends to act blind to keep on testing her. Although he boastfully claims to be a good judge of character, he is unable to distinguish between his wife's fidelity and his ex-girlfriend's connivance. He is so easily swayed by his ex-girlfriend despite knowing what she is capable of and keeps on suspecting his wife for being unfaithful to him even though their marriage is fake. He not only suspects his wife but keeps on torturing her by shunning her constantly and tossing biting remarks at her. There are many moments between episodes where he tries to act playful and romantic but I found it annoying because he was just smothering her personal space and making her uncomfortable. For example, he forces her to take off his clothes and help him wash his body, the tasks which he could accomplish very well himself as this scene takes place after the surgery.
The female lead doesn't make this serial less insufferable either. She is too naïve and is prone to getting fooled easily by the people around her. Rather than learning a lesson from her ex-boyfriend’s betrayal, she decides to proceed with signing a marriage certificate with a man she barely knows. Everyone keeps on ordering her around and she is too eager to acquiesce to their demands herself. She is unable to stand up for herself and lets everyone take advantage of her which further contributes to the audience's frustrations.
Reason # 2: The Villains - it is necessary for any drama to have antagonistic characters as someone is required to create obstacles in the story to present a conflict which is built up and then resolved in the end. But in this drama, more than half of the cast has a negative role, it has a coterie of villains which is so obsessed with the leading couple and has so much free time on its hands that it follows the couple all the way to France to make the couple (mostly the heroin) miserable. The villains are too powerful and cunning, completely antithetical to the dim witted leading couple, even a child is able to tell which person has malignant intentions and which doesn't but these two grown adults can't.
Reason # 3: The quality of the script - the characterization and the overall script were also poor and lacked depth as this drama used tropes like the naïve persecuted heroin, the persistent ex-boyfriends and ex-girlfriends and the jealous wife who would choose to remain insecure and keep on chasing her unfaithful husband for the rest of her life rather than I don’t know, divorcing him?
By the end, I really wished that the female lead would grow a backbone of her own and would at least leave her pathetic husband behind and start anew but sadly it was just wishful thinking.
