I am a 26 year old physicist who started watching Asian drama around seven years ago when unfortunately the western industry slowly stopped producing the types of dramas I enjoyed (Sherlock,Hannibal,Star Trek...ok that's a very old one) . I find most western dramas lacking of their older (tumblr era) charm and warmth while the main characters either seem completely unable to connect or only form purely sexual relationships. I mainly watch Korean and Japanese dramas with some occassional Chinese addition and I am very interested in those cultures as well,with a bit of an extra love for the korean language.I am not a huge fan of modern romantic story lines although I can't really say I haven't watched a number of them :)
