Magical Women, Yes

Let me address why I would write a review only 5 episodes in....

The women were magical.....this particularly addresses the other reviewer who saw only magic in men.

SuFei is married for ten years to Yan Wei, a man who cheats and lies, who is charming but untrustworthy.

On their wedding anniversary SuFei exposes him to all his colleagues, a magical moment.
But, the strength to do this, to persevere, to plan, execute, and expose; that courage is magical.

SuFei's ability to absorb the hurt and humiliations, take that and become a stronger person; that is a magical woman.

SuFei's ability to not be persuaded by emotional blackmail of keeping the "family" or by her daughter's threats when she knows that the best mother is a role model for her daughter; that is a magical woman.

Enter An Ning, another single mother betrayed by her lover Pang Nin.

An Ning's position as the other woman was unintentional and placed upon her by the duplicitous married Pang Nin.

An Ning had the courage to leave her child's father who was a lying cheat, and in so doing she was constantly on the run.

An Ning's ability to place her morality and self-worth above any convenience; that courage is magical.

An Ning's ability to tell truth to her friend ManMan and to Su Fei; that is a magical woman.

It is clear why SuFei and An Ning formed a close relationship - two women who had self-respect and courage: magical women.

Lastly, when women have been hurt so deeply and fundamentally, that they are able to trust again, that is magical.

Even if later women meet the right sort, the decent men, they have to gather their courage to place their trust in these new relationships .

The fact that SuFei and An Ning were able to move beyond their emotional trauma and gain happiness for themselves - that's magical.
