I’ve been watching drama’s since somewhere around 2009/2010 (give or take), ever since the MySoju days, a website most drama viewers today have probably never heard of but that back then was the place to go for dramas. They had literally everything (with the dreaded subtitles accompanied by a million pop up ads you had to fight against with ad blocker and quick reflexes). But it was worth it for that sweet drama fix at 4am on a school night (a University school night; my mother would have killed me if I had been doing that in high school, lol). Truthfully, I miss those days and often wish we could go back.

For years, I was a strict rom-com girl (with some exceptions), mostly Korean (although considering what the Korean drama landscape was traditionally like until five or so years ago, that meant I was still watching a lot of drama’s that liked to veer into the melodramatic (to my chagrin, lol)). But in the last few years, my tastes have expanded, and I’ve begun giving other genre’s a chance. Most notably, I started my first Wuxia (or is it a Xianxai?) and my first Asadora this year, and I’m edging dangerously close to watching an actual, gosh-darn historical.

Wonders never cease.

My first ever drama was the Taiwanese Fated to Love You. It was very much a crack drama, and I binged it as quickly as I could. (When Xin Yi cried, You cried. The girl could emote.) I have been unsuccessful since then at re-watching it, as I can’t get through the middle bit to save my life, but it will always have a special place in my heart, and I’ve watched the Korean and Japanese remakes, dropped the Chinese halfway thru, and am currently watching the Thai version.

(The Korean version is the superior version, in my view.)

Currently, I have a (very unrealistic for me) goal of getting to a place where I can watch up to 30 dramas a year. My To-Watch list (the reason for my unrealistic goal) is so long, I’ve begun creating individual lists by genre just to keep everything straight and help me when I’m looking for something specific and don’t remember what any of the dramas on my list are about, lol.

I’ve tried to nail down the parameters of my ratings, because apparently this is very important business, but I really don’t have a rubric or system. Sometimes I rate based on quality, sometimes on enjoyment, sometimes both, and sometimes even I don’t know, lol.

I probably won’t add you as a friend. Nothing personal. I just don’t use MyDramaList (or most websites) for friendship related activities unless it’s someone I know IRL or someone I have interacted with quite a bit online. I used to be very active on social media making online friends, but the older I get, the less interested I am in all of that. I guess I’m becoming somewhat of a hermit/old person.

My goal in life is to be some sort of fantasy, fairytale, Jane Austen, Manic Pixie, Shoujo, Magical Girl, Grandma living in a cottage in the woods surrounded by trees and flowers and butterflies and honeybees and magic and contentment.

The most important thing to know about me is that I’m Christian. This does play into what I will and will not watch, as God is the foundation for my life.
