Guess what happens when you mix makjang in a political thriller?

🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪 Backstabbing
☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️ Death

A prime minister is willing to go south to bring justice and eradicate all corruption from the government. Problem is that being corrupted also means be blackmail-able, including yourself the moment you went south. And this is where our Whirlwind starts.

The prime minister now president, portrayed by Sul Kyung Gu, is stuck in a power struggle with an assembly woman (Kim Hee Ae) who can’t afford to lose her position.

ML is morally torned apart, only his position allows him to bring down the corrupted, but to keep such position he has to compromise a lot.

FL idealist and liberal youth is long gone, once you reach the top is hard to do politics without crossing path with conglomerate’s money. To not lose her position she will be forced to fight her past demons while making sacrifices.

The dualism between this two morally grey characters, and their (maybe a bit too cold) performance is the major aspect of this drama.

The plot, despite having some great political schemes, requires a specific love for the genre of makjang to digest 12 episodes of constantly backstabbing & twists.

“The Whirlwind” is a game with no winners, not even justice, cause it’s set in a society where even 1 person taking favors in exchange of something is enough to star the game all over again.
