Hot Couple Alert!

Been watching C and K-dramas the past few years and finally created an MDL acct just to rate this drama. I normally don't watch short dramas but somehow stumbled upon My Uncanny Destiny which also starred ML, Yan Zi Xian and thoroughly enjoyed that one so decided to give TROB a try and I'm glad I did! The main couple in the first half of the drama is just hot, heavy and sexy unlike your typical C-dramas. Some of the kissing scenes, I had to make sure my kids weren't sitting next to me. ML and FL for sure had sizzling chemistry.

Second half is your typical super villain coming into their own and FL becoming stupid, ML being stubborn and stuck in his ways and sure, I rolled my eyes hard a few times but since it's a short drama my eye rolling kept to a minimum as the story moved right along. Sometimes, there was barely any build up before the next scene and major stuff happening. I forgave some of the plot holes and still enjoyed the drama overall. I binged it in a day!

Can I just say how HOT the ML, YZX is? I mean his side profile - I am swooning. He so needs a drama where he plays a vampire!

So much potential but did not live up to earlier part of the series.

This drama had so much potential to be a great one. Intriguing premise, strong female lead, dark and brooding male lead. I'm surprised I finished it but I was hoping it'll take a turn for the better. Ugh, it did not. Suggestions to new viewers, watch up to the point where they get rid of the prince and stop there. Do not waste your time to finish the rest, there really isn't a point.

Pleasantly Surprised

Started this drama with zero expectations and I'm quite surprised that I finished it and didn't skip any scenes. I tend to drop dramas that don't hold my interest, especially at the half way point when the plot tends to go down the drain. For some reason, the plot kept me interested as I wanted to find out how the ML and FL will end up back together considering he really messed up in the beginning. Once she recovered her memories, it was the ultimate betrayal for her. This man who she thought she loved, kept her like a caged bird for a whole year "playing house" while her real personality is a care free adventurer. The moment when the ML got drunk back at his home after realizing he lost her as his "wife" really resonated how he fudged it up with her. There was definitely some groveling for him to do in order to win her back. The first half of the drama was the set up and the funny scenes and home life and the second half was him trying to win her back along with royal politics at play. I also liked that there were subtle moments of female empowerment weaved into the drama between all the female characters, from the FL to her friend, He Zhen, the empress and even to ML's sister. These ladies wanted to control their own destinies the best way they knew how in a world where they had no say over their own lives compared to their male counterpart. I thought it was interesting as well that the second ML had other love interests. It made it seem more realistic, especially when having multiple wives back then, was the norm. Didn't think I was going to enjoy this drama as well as watching all 40 episodes.

What am I watching and why do I like it?

This is my first "short" drama. I usually go for ones with at least a 45 min run time per episode at a total of too many episodes and then I wonder why I drop half of them. Thanks to Zogitt's review, I decided to give this drama a chance. I normally do not like cheesy, over the top dramas but for some reason, this one works. Some scenes, I was laughing so hard that my family asked what the heck I was watching. The ML and FL had good chemistry and you can tell sometimes they were trying hard not to laugh while filming, that's how serious this drama is. Thought the FL played her role really well alternating between a male and female characters. I liked the messaging behind the drama in terms of gender equality.

This is the drama where I discovered ML, Yan Zi Xian and I might go on a binge watch of all his dramas now. I want to believe I am not that shallow but damn, he is fine and maybe it's his kiss scenes that I appreciate. It's not boring. Like the one where he kisses the FL going up the stairs. He made it adorable and HOT at the same time!

Someone else reviewed this drama negatively and compared it to not living up to The Romance of Tiger and Rose. I love Zhao Lusi and watched TROTAR when it first came out and loved it, thought it was funny, fresh and different. However, I recently tried to rewatch it and was bored out of my mind. I don't think it's fair to compare the two dramas as they are really different. I certainly didn't regret giving this drama a try. Plus the bloopers at the end of the drama made it even more enjoyable.
